Hello everyone, and welcome to my first story here in the S&T forums. I would like to thank all of you who have been here before for creating this interesting place which caught my attention some months ago for the first time.

As you may have noticed, I have been participating in some stories developed here for some time already, and with Noyyau's advice I started playing this mod, which convinced me I had to write a story about my first play through the game.

I still have no idea what to call my story, mostly because I have no idea what it'll become (and I too have no idea what IAAR, AAR and anything else means :crazyeye:). By now it'll be more a story I'll tell you, but maybe with time things get more interactive.

For now just stick to your seat, grab some food and join me in this Gigantic game, the most interesting story about the Iroquois, but not the one you are used to. This time we will be in a completely new world and within the Kingdom of Iroquois, a nation that has been said to have first developed around 6000BC.

Gameplay - Multiplayer (simultaneous turns, no world builder)
Size - Gigantic (2 sizes above Huge)
Mapscript - Perfectworld 2
Speed - Marathon (actually 2400 turns, instead of normal 1500 turns of vanilla Marathon)
Difficulty - Emperor (it's my first game, so I thought it would be safer to go on an easier difficulty then I'm used to)

This is the Iroquois Kingdom at 1446AD, a kingdom formed by Six Nations: Mohawk, Roieza Sano, Gasosofn Eerl, Brandenburg, Gojoseon and Elum Eten. Let's have a brief explanation of these lands:

Mohawk: The original Iroquois tribe land. This land developed itself from the early days of civilization until it's boundaries were already encompassing all of Mohawk and Roieza Sano. The early tribes of Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Caughnawaga, Seneca and Tuscarora formed an alliance to stand against the evil Brandenburg tribes known as the German. The Kingdom was originally formed during these times. It's the mainland of the Kingdom now and named after the Capital City.

Roieza Sano: Colonized by Mohawk settlers during the later days of pre-Brandenburg conquest, Roieza Sano saw a slow development. Now it's not only one of the best developed regions of the realm but the place where the biggest fights take place. The region is named after the Sea of Roieza Sano which divides this province from Mohawk.

Gasosofn Eerl: Once known as Lower Brandenburg, this place was colonized by German people. After conquering Brandenburg Mohawk armies marched south and destroyed the German city of Munich in 471AD. Then they founded the city of Nowadaga to replace it. It's named after the Bay of Gasosofn Eerl north of it.

Brandenburg: Originally the nation of Germany lived here. They were a fierce tribe which got softer and more scientific oriented. They developed the Hellenism Religion and built two Wonders: The Temple of Artemis and the Chichen Itza. The relations between the tribes was of always war but no serious incursions, just some border skirmishes took place. When all the land of Mohawk and Roieza Sano were colonized, the Mohawk Kingdom decided it was time to free all these lands from German control. Berlin was conquered in 397AD and Hamburg in 442AD. It's named after the German name for itself.

Gojoseon: Gojoseon was the land of the Koreans, another fierce tribe which by millenia stood close to Mohawk against Germany. Instead of skirmishes like the Mohawk, Korea advanced inside Germany and drived both nations to a great war. But when Mohawk had conquered all of Germany, Korea shifted it's alliance and started to close relations with Mohawk. This convinced the Kingdom to annex Gojoseon as well. P'yongyang fell in 525AD, Seoul in 540AD and Namp'o in 552AD. Then the Pusan territory accepted to become a vassal of the Iroquois Kingdom, which resulted in the creation of the Pusan Duchy. It's name comes from the Korean name of the land.

Elum Eten: Named after the Gulf south of it, Elum Eten is the last nation to join the Iroquois Kingdom. It was colonized in 756AD after the consolidation of Gojoseon and the Pusan Duchy.


Other Holdings: Nobamba Isle fell in 612AD to Iroquois domain as the price for entering the war against the Zulu Kingdom with the Turkish Republic. uMgungundlovu (conquered in 834AD), far off and disconnected with the Iroquois land was the price for another request to join against the Zulu Kingdom (a place the turkish were never able to hold entirely). This sparked tensions between Turkey and Iroquois, resulting in the Iroquoi-Turkish war (978AD - 1065AD), ending in the vassalage of the Turkish Republic. The isles of Powhaten and Mingo were colonized prior to the conquest of Berlin.

The Arabian Duchy: The arabs were once friends to Iroquois, but as the years passed relations began to strain because of diplomatic situations. The Kingdom of Iroquois didn't want to conquer Arabia until the capitulation of Turkey. At this time the army could be divided between a small task force to hold the Duchy of Pusan from Assyrian assaults (a historical enemy of the Iroquois since the capitulation of Pusan), and two main forces: One to defend the homeland and the other to strike what had to be striked. Arabia was not well developed, the nearest land, full of resources and it was the only civilization of a big island. But the main reason was the knowledge about the two super powers across the ocean: The English Republic and the Viking Republic, both bigger and stronger then the Iroquois Kingdom as whispers said. So the Iroquois knew they had to become bigger to compete with these possible new threats.
The Arabian wars (1116AD - 1260AD and 1287AD - 1308AD) ended in the capitulation of Arabia under strict Iroquois control. Nominally the Arab Duke is the owner of the land, but they answer to iroquoian governors. It's now under complete Iroquois control after Duke Abbas II staged a revolution and was thwarted by our intelligence network agents.

I'll come up with new info later, and save two posts under this because I've seen lots of people doing this and I guess it might be useful later. One I'll already use to talk about government (something that may get more interactive as the game is developed). By now this is it, and soon I'll start playing the game and post the future of the Iroquois Six Nations Kingdom.
 
The Government:

The King
The King has ultimate power over all issues, and as such he is the Absolute Authority within the Kingdom and to all its subjects. King Tadodaho II is the current King of Iroquois. The King reigns for life. When a new King must be chosen, it's the female clan leader of the royal clan who chooses the King from the former King's descendants. When the King has no direct descendants the clan matron shall choose a heir from his siblings or siblings' descendants. Never a King can be made going back to the siblings of his predecessors, as they must split into new clans as long as the new King is of a later generation (e.g. The old king dies, the new king is his son, then all his uncles (the former king's brothers) must form new clans with their wives. The ones that are not married, as well as abdicated kings remain in the clan, but may not become king under any circumstances, only for the not married if they get married and then form a new clan). If there is no option for King (no direct descendants, no siblings or siblings descendants), then the choice of a new King goes to the Senate, and it must choose a new King from any clan in the realm. This decision makes a new Royal Clan, and the new King is the husband of the clan matron. The King may only be a male, and his wife is then considered the Matron Queen.

The Clans
All families are clans, except those which fail to organize themselves as a matriarchal clan. Women are the leaders of the clan, and the matron is the wife of the clan patron. When the patron dies, or for any reason is removed permanently from the clan, the matron must choose, exactly as the royal matron, a new patron from his direct descendants (or siblings and siblings descendants if there are no direct descendants). After the choice is made, the patron's wife becomes the new clan matron. The only exception is if he is not married yet, but as soon as he gets married the change follows immediately. If a clan matron dies before the patron, the oldest descendant female of the matron becomes the new matron, but the patron remains until he dies or is removed. If there are no female descendants, then it goes to the oldest woman married to a descendant of the patron, and then of his siblings and siblings' descendants. If there are no one to become a matron the clan falls in disgrace and simply disappears, with the remaining people becoming free of a clan and left to their own doings.

A female descendant of the patron and matron may form a new clan or not. Her husband and their descendants may never achieve the position of patron of the clan they are in, so the only way is spliting. This may only be done after the woman gets married.

When a marriage occurs, one of the couple must decide to abandon his clan and join the other's, or form a new one. Normally men go to the women's clan or form a new clan with those women. The most common reason for a woman to join a male's clan is if he has a good chance to become patron, and consequently for the women to become matron.

Monogamy is the customs law, and if the law is disobeyed no clan can be made with the people involved. Only the descendants may form new clans upon marriage, but normally people affiliated with such disgrace don't get married to established clans members. Women don't have to be part of a clan to have the right to form a new clan.

No clan may take the same name of another living clan. If this does happen, both parties or any of them may bring this matter to the local authority to be discussed. The clan which proves they have kept the name longer will remain with the name, and the other will have to change their clan name. If they don't give an answer in 30 days, all members of the clan are sentenced to death by royal decree.

The Representative System
Each of the Seven Nations has one senatorial chair. They are elected exactly as was before, but now their former duties are taken by the Deputies. The new Senate now advises closely the City Governors of their nations, and with that act as sort of a Provincial Leader, like those of territories that aren't nations (e.g. the Zulu Governor).

Current responsibilities of the Senators:
- Ask for things to be trained/built on the cities of the nation;
- Still give opinions about techs and the spending of taxes (:science:, :culture:, :espionage: or :gold:);
- State opinions about the wars;
- Propose to increase/decrease Senators/Deputies responsibilities.

Old Senate:

The Senate is composed of non-royal clans of each of the major 22 cities of the six nations. Senators take the office for life or until resignation. Senator elections take place at the cities and their surroundings after a Senator chair ceases to have a holder. Any matron in the realm may vote in these elections, except the royal matron, if they are present at the senator chair's city in the day following the vacancy. If a Senator's clan becomes the Royal clan, he shall resign immediately. The number of Senators has changed through the years, and is not permanent yet, so in the future there can be more Senators (or less). Every 10 years, or until resignation, a Senate leader is chosen between the Senators. In vote matter, his vote is counted as 2 if the Senate has an even number of Senators, and only one if the number is odd. To become a Senator, you must be part of a clan, and you must be a patron prior to election (even if the person stops being patron, he remains as a Senator until death or resignation).

The Senate advises the King and the senators act as a sort of council for Province Governors. When the King doesn't want to make a difficult decision, he may give the Senate the right to choose from him. The decision of the Senate then is taken without question of the King, as a refusal leads to the total dissolution of the Senate and new elections. Then the new Senators decide if the King is trustworthy or not, meaning if he is not, the Royal Matron must choose a new King exactly as she would choose if he died or resigned.


Province and Dominion Governors
All Governors are appointed by the King, from the Province ones to the dominions that don't get the status of a province in the Six Nations. They take care of everything related to their provinces' or dominions' development and protection, and must decide their plans with their senate councils (when there are) and give to the King for Royal approval.

The Generals
Everything related to the Military is under the jurisdiction of the King as well, but only the defense of the provinces is managed by the governors, the rest is managed by the appointed generals of the King.
 
For now, here will be the list of known clans for you not to mess with each other and by the end getting a death penalty. Anyone may form a clan with a different name from those from this list. Just post it on this thread and I'll update it here.

Military Report

The situation in Roieza Sano is under control and no englishmen remain in Iroquois land more then a few days. But the threat of an inner incursion is haunting us everyday. All the subjects of the Realm must be passing through this as well. Those years were tough and many brave soldiers died defending Mohawk. We cannot let this happen again, and my soldiers can't be spared to other areas of the Realm. The best we can do is to observe and use the tactical positions already discussed in the War Plannings of old. This is what saved Mohawk from losing Cayuga and Seneca.

What you must do is to forget the idea of saving money your father had. We need more troops! You should start a campaign of strenghening the army and blessing the sea with a powerful navy if we are to stand against the english. We didn't lose a single piece of land to the english in these 159 years of war. All the Kings since then have managed well our nation to hold the british, but your father couldn't listen until the invasion of Mohawk took the air out of his lungs, and drived him to a state of no talk until his death.

And the sea is theirs, everywhere.

Maybe next time they will enter better armed and we won't stand. I'm trusting you Your Majesty, my nephew, that with your wisdom and the majestic happening of your coronation we will hold the english, change the tide of this war and strike them at the heart, where they deserve the most!

There is nothing an Iroquoian hates more then the words: England, english, british. Well... not actually. Seeing an englishmen sure is worse, and that's why no englishmen stood in Iroquoian land for more then a few days.

Except once.

Not so long ago.

And nobody could have forgotten yet, it was the last time the english touched our beloved land and what a scar they made. The siege of Cayuga and Seneca were tough and we almost lost both cities.

But in a few years everything was again normal. Many people died in this episode, and the heaviest casualties were the war machines. Countless trebuchets were destroyed by english marauders.

The english are a smart lot. Since the IXth or Xth century we were already visited by english merchants and explorers. They said England was a land far off in the Great Ocean, and that they crossed this ocean and arived here, not knowing what they would find in the first time.

Our Kingdom tried a smart approach with the english. It seemed they didn't have any declared enemies, so it shouldn't be hard to bring them against the Aztecs, the sworn enemy of Mongolia, and all who wanted the buddhist mongols as friends. We succeded, and it seemed England would be part of our thriving alliance.

After more then a century or two of friendship and peace, in 1287 AD without a whisper, the english, having just mastered the ocean sailings, brought a huge army backed by a huge navy to conquer Iroquoia. They utterly failed to take the land, but the sea was completely conquered and is patrolled by them until nowadays.

They played with us since the beggining. At least this is what every iroquoian think, and must be true, for the war is just, and Iroquoia will prevail!

Military Report

Commander Logan Bear Wrath

Your Majesty, it pleases me to inform that the situation in the Arabian Duchy is finally reaching it's final state os pacification. Soon the soldiers will be available for other missions then to secure peace in the conquered lands.

Never more have an arab stood against the rule of Iroquoia. They finally accepted the advantageous situation of being part of the Kingdom.

My proposals for the next moves we must do are to secure the whole island by invading the Cuman Bandits ice paradise and then to invade the Carib Pirate Haven with the ships in Mecca and Damascus. I'm sure those moves will pacify even more the spirits of our arab subjects. We will discuss this better in the next War Council meeting.

I must express my joy of your recent coronation at Mohawk Capital, an event which promised great deeds to the future. Long live to you Your Majesty.

The arabs gave a hard work to Iroquoia conquerors. After the swift conquest of the Northern cities, arab spies started to kill the Governors and to spark revolution after revolution with countless arabs taking arms to rejoin their homeland. The First Arab War was the most important and started well to end drastically awful. The peace wasn't the plan, but the arab forces got so numerous and well armed that the peace was an inevitable need. At that time only Baghdad was still under Arab rule.

The Second arab war was the inevitable victory we were already meant to live. With all arab soldiers back near Baghdad, and the revolutionary spirit softened by the brief peace, foolish Arabia was convinced by England to join in the war against us just to loose their last city and accept capitulation.

Duke Abbas II formally hold the title of Duke, but in truth the region is totally controlled by Iroquois Governors who answer the King of Iroquoia, differently from the Duchy of Pusan or the Turkish Republic.
 
I promise that on the next post I'll pass the turn. Finals are upon me, so I must correct the inumerous mistakes of the whole semester. I plan on further enhance my map making skills to reach something like this:

And I have plans of making votes within the senate or any other government body for you to give your opinion of what to do (initially more or less like Royal Tenenbaum's presidential plans choosing and Sanguivorant's caliph election). Then we may move to something more interactive like what Sanguivorant is doing now.

So now Tadodaho is King, and this is an unsual chapter of the Kingdom of Iroquois's history.

Matron Queen Skawennahawi chose young Tadodaho to succeed his father, also Tadodaho, as King of Iroquois upon the death of his predecessor. Tadodaho was the eldest son of two (his brother is Hiawatha) and brought a good aura around him. His mother knew it. But his mother knew even more.



Long ago there was a time when Iroquois people were free to choose any belief they might find. Some were gathered around spirits, others of forces of nature, some to specifically one or other deity of strange special happenings, and some were already developing the sense of Gods and religion. But in Mohawk, few were heard or followed talking about Religion.

Once the people of Oneida finished one of the most beautiful wonders of the whole world: The Shwedagon Paya. This was done to collect all different beliefs and godly entities of the people of Mohawk. The completion of this strengthened so much Iroquois culture that the Iroquois Kingdom finally formed. The Kingdom was created in 148 BC, 100 years after the completion of the Shwedagon Paya and the most drastic change the Iroquois Tribe have passed since it's mystical creation. It was demanded from the King a more severe form of organizing the warriors, the introduction of a caste system and slavery, the transformation of the old Tribal Council in a chamber of notables for discussions, to relegate the welfare of the people to a wing of the government responsible for public works and a non filiation with any religion, which were by the eyes of the iroquoian people:
(...) an opressive way to understand the superior forces or beings. The humans are the perfect breed of fate, and as such we should be the focus of everything. You do not bow to fate, you accept it, embrace it and you don't fear it. Religions are bad understandings of nature and destiny, and as such should be avoided.

Maimonides thought differently. The whole of Brandenburg, Gojoseon, Arabian Duchy, Pusan Duchy and the Turkish Republic thought differently. They felt opressed by the policies of discrimination on religion. The seat of Hellenism, a religion which spread to the four corners of Anagonia (the Continent in which the Iroquois Kingdom is located) is on Hamburg, in the middle of the Atheist Kingdom of Iroquois.

So Maimonides started using his religious magic to make the situation different. He knew the opression, but he knew too the benevolence of this stuation: Most places out there were fierce theocracies, intolerant toward any religion not their own. At least in Iroquoia he could practice his religion without the fear of being executed, and he didn't need to pretend to follow any other faith. He just had to keep quiet in public places with overwhelming numbers of godless people.

Maimonides in 1446 AD


When Maimonides first attempted to make a hellenistic ritual in the open, in the surroundings of Berlin, he was stopped by several authorities and this sparked tensions in the region. His luck, or as he stated "by the will of the gods", Matron Queen Skawennahawi was in Berlin in a council of matrons about customs and tradition. When the situation reached her ears, she declared to the council she was going to dismiss the authorities and let Maimonides continue his ritual. This wasn't taken with good eyes from most of mohawk's matrons, but they were a minority in this council full of Brandenburg and Gojoseon matrons, which cheered with joy openly, something that could be seen as religious affiliated, and punishable. When the Matron Queen decided a ritual wasn't an infringement, cheer about it wouldn't be as well.

This started the letter sendings from both Maimonides and Skawennahawi, and some think this friendship influenced a lot not only the Matron Queen, but young Tadodaho as well.

When Tadodaho was chosen King Maimonides prophetized:
Tadodaho will surely be the envy other nations will have. Under his rule, the kingdom will prosper as never before, a Golden Age will continue for ages to come after his death, and prohibition and intolerance will be faced with a shining light of justice and understandings.

Soon after his speech he fainted in the front of lots of hellenic followers, fell right to his death, and a huge blow of wind caught all unprepared. Some even say they saw his spirit soaring to the sky. He had completed his duty, and his people were happy.


Back in the capital, it was a shock to the traditionalists when Tadodaho's first speech was:
My beloved subjects of the Realms, here today I give to you my first thoughts to develop our nations under the guidance of peace and prosperity. The war with England shall continue until they see reason and we can reach a good term of peace. Until then we will continue to clean our lands from their presence, and I promise to you we will end their patrols of our seas and control the seas ourselves!

I will reorganize the soldiers to create the first centralized and efficient gathering of troops. This will be the Army, and with this improvement we will lessen all the threats that surround us. And from now on we will pay history its deserved memory, changing the customs, and making them more just. I am King Tadodaho II, in memory of my father King Tadodaho, now King Tadodaho I. From now on we will remember all Kings by their order, to ease the future comprehension of our history.

Tolerancy is the word of my suzerainty, as all states intolerant have proved us their bad behavior to the development of society. But we will not open the gates for any religion. I believe our subjects are what they are by cultural and land links. If we open ourselves most of our culture can die with it, and this is unacceptable.

May fate be with us!

His crown was another strange story. In the day Maimonides died, also did John Constable, the artist chosen by Tadodaho himself to make the first Crown of Iroquois, as protrayed by Tadodaho's present seal:

The crown is topped by boats and sails, to show the truth of Iroquoia: The sea is ours, sooner or later. History would tell later they were the first to circumnavigate the globe, enhancing this trait.

Constable was found dead at home, with no signs of violence or murder. He must have died from disease or other internal factors.



3 Years have passed - 1449AD

Hearing his uncle's request, and fulfilling his promise, King Tadodaho II reorganized the army and changed the core mohawk cities focus on wealth to make several Parade Grounds. With these, Tadodaho says, our new soldiers will be better trained before going to war, increasing our military power.

Mohawk is helping Oneida build the Blarney Castle, a project started by King Tadodaho I.

Berlin was allowed to train Hellenic priests (Oracles) to further spread their beliefs on places outside the Kingdom. This was other of the fulfilled promises King Tadodaho II has done. And as may be seen, Temples are still being allowed, a not so old practice in the realms that is continuing, as the always permitted Monasteries.

King Tadodaho II must marry, for the good sake of the Kingdom. But to whom?

If you want you may create your own clans now. Clans are like surnames, and all clan names already chosen do comply with the clan rules presented before.

After some clans appear, I'll choose (not yet sure by which criteria) one to get a wife for Tadodaho. This means this clan will have advantages in Tadodaho's management when we start getting Senate stuff going on.

BTW, Clans are families not like warcraft III clans and related stuff. Each person is a clan, it's the personification of its leadership. The only exception is if you want different people for both Matron and Patron. If so you may have a maximum of 2 people per clan, the personifications of matron and patron, but this doesn't give additional benefits besides having two people to work for the same clan.

Surely, and use your imagination to go high, you may ask me details if you want. Gojoseon is composed by 4 major cities (civ cities): Seoul (pseudo-capital, there aren't local capitals by now), P'yongyang, Namp'o (the isle) and Saratoga (the only Mohawk colony of Gojoseon).

The thing is, the earlier you choose what you want to be, the highest the chance you get it. The only people I've already created are the King and his clan, his uncle's clan (Obsidian Spear, and his uncle is one of the great commanders), Bear Wrath (of the other Great Commander) and Desert Tiger (which you'll hear about shortly).

BTW, there is also clans Gauss, Constable and Wright. These are special clans that only with good reasoning I may hand them to you (Carl Friedrich Gauss is the Scientist who helped create the Kingdom, John Constable is the creator of the crown as said in the last post, and Wright is another important guy from the past you don't know yet, he was a Great Engineer)

Of Course. Brandenburg is composed by 3 major cities (civ cities): Berlin (Senate capital and pseudo-capital of Brandenburg), Hamburg and Owego (the only Mohawk colony of Brandenburg).

You may choose the names, the only names you can't choose are: Royal (duh!), Obsidian Spear, Bear Wrath and Desert Tiger. Gauss, Constable and Wright you need to convince me.

Any other name is still free. I'll list the clan names on the beggining for people not to create same named clans (and get a death sentence :mwaha:).
