ROTQM13: Rolling Over The Quintet's Magic

Call me crazy but I would start rushing order as quickly as possible. Not only would it make lore sense for our series but it would also give us access to a holy city and a religion with all the collected bonuses.

So I say finish hunting and get those war elephants but after that go for order. Yes it's going to take 60 something turns at this point and that's painful but it should pay off in the end.

When I first assigned the scientist specialist, besides desperately needing more science without the possibility of building cottages/commerce I thought we might use the GP to bulb code of laws or philosophy but I think in our current spot an academy was the best shout

Alrightey, i've got it here, and it looks like the order of the day is attack elephants, and capture the economy! done.

should we specialist economy at this point?

also, Oz, you're up in the Old World SG, mate

Speaking of what to do when do you guys think we should found our next set of cities? I assume we wait for a while but how long? I typically would have gone for 2-3 cites more than we currently have by now and than stagnate on that for a very long time afterward. But I am not sure that is a smart decision in this version of the game.

I would also say to build one or two more cities now. I don't think our land is particularly good so when it comes to worked tiles we should try to compensate quality with quantity. Once we start to grow our cottages that may help with the financial burden of an enlarged empire.

At the very least I'd snag #6 to get the copper and maybe #5 to connect them up. We can add #2 and #4 later.

so, i didn't remember that i'd swapped my screenshot hotkey so i've only got one pic for the end, but nothing much happened.

The Heron Throen was built early on in my set. When Trinity finished with the elder council, i started on a palisade for defensive purposes if it's going to be a stronghold type city. we next got a monument event there, and i chose teh +2 food reasoning that it's a free citizen. Torro finished the settler nad I started on another axe. however, i micro'd a bit to work all the cottages i built there and grow back up to 9. Axeman in 8, growth in 3, and archery in @ 100%

for tyhe next city, i worry 5 is going to expose us. i'd like to have a bit more defensive position in case we're accidentally seen, DoW'd and there's a stack winding its way up the mountains at us. I actually like 2 simply for the coverage on that side of the map and blockage, plus it's a seaside city and can have commerce w every citizen w/o having to be improved. in the long term, is it great? no way, but maybe in the short term, it's just the little bit of commerce we could use to get more military ready for the slaughter...er, conversion.

here's a pic. i also think maybe we could move 4 so that's it's 1 SE or SW of the cow so it sits in one of the passes there and any AI couldn't sit in teh hills and bombard the city where it's currently at.

edit: or, also, #2 could fund the expansion a bit w/o a commerce hit.

Picked up the save and will play soon, we're all in agreement we should expand to a few more cities and increase our raw commerce yes?

If we take 2 than we definitively need to invest into fishing.

Speaking of which how much would that take us?

The Third (or 4th?) Dynasty of Fish-Capria commenced with the establishment of the 4th city of our great empire at the 4th suggested spot. The citizens of Valus were lazy with their furnishing of a new worker, so they were put out into the fields. For their sins however they were punished by Junil with the arrival of a particularly strong clan of lizardmen who slew half the garrison of the city before being put down.

After that, not much excitement happened except the occasional orcish or goblinoid raid on the north eastern border which were quickly shut down and the ongoing residential development of the west bank of the Tolorreial river continued in earnest. Scientifically we developed hunting in short order from the start of my reign and began work on creating a code of laws inspired by Junil himself, though for budgetary reasons this work was more or less being done by a single sage stationed in Vallus whilst the rest of the funds of the State went to maintaining municipal infrastructure and paying the army.

Good point. No point in settling 2 until after we have Fishing.
that's why i like SGs. on my own, i'd have that city up and running and wonder why i can't build a lighthouse

if we do settle by the copper, we should send most of our axes with it. i forgot to mention, i was also using our units to fogbust a bit; not sure if that's necessary with the lair spawns or not. and i had stationed one axe near-ish to vallus to help out if needed.

for the economy, unless the capital is building something necessary to get out ASAP, we could work all those cottages and turn on avoid growth for the money and to get them growing. economy seems rougher in FfH. or is it tech pace?

Oh, it's my turn. I'll look in on it soon.

The cardinal paced around the room energetically muttering as he went when the door opened to reveal the long awaited messenger. Before the man could even speak a greeting however he was cut off:
"I know what you are going to say and I do NOT want to hear it."

"But..." the young man tried in vain to get a word in.

"Yes, yes. I know!"
"The ways of Junil are strange."
"Just... do as it says. And by god try not to paint the bathrooms pastel pink this time round."

The young man turned on his heel and left closing the door behind him just in time to catch a glimpse of his elder pore him self a drink and mutter. "I am getting too old for this crap."

And thus began another glorious 15 years of the rein of the color Purple.

Surprisingly enough, given the change in leadership the first two years went off without much problem. In fact, things were going so well that the people of Vallus decided they could clear some more of the uninhabitable tundra to call their own. On the plus side this did bring them into contact with a lair of flesh eating murderbears.

Spoiler All things considered not a bad day to live in the north. :

Down south however things were not looking so good. Not a year had passed and the work party sent to gather the unpainted cows east of Tentatio was interrupted by a most unsavory bunch of locals. These savages apparently claimed that the cows belonged to them and had no desire of sharing. What's worse they called our paintings of the cows in the sacred color stupid.

Spoiler Such insults could not be allowed to stand. :

The battle was won. But it cost us one of the two warriors protecting the city. In light of this the Color Purple, blessed be its shade decided it would be best to assemble garrisons at the two crossing points to the mountains to prevent any further incursions.

As such, it was necessary to decrease research spending somewhat in order to permit more unit maintenance. This process would be long and not end until the very end of it's reign.

Meanwhile some executive decisions had to be made. And given just how many fish resources we have at our disposal AND the fact it's only 4 turns of research the color Purple, forever saturated may it be, decided to divert to fishing once Code of Laws was completed. It's really not a big deal and it would allow us to grow 3 cities. Here's to hoping no mistakes were made.

On the far west meanwhile work had finished on a hunting lodge, and given that a hunter would have taken 15 turns the people instead opted to train a bird. Yea... I don't get it anyway. But apparently the bird could fly real high and magically talk to it's trainers so that by the end of the reign we had some rather interesting intelligence.

Spoiler Seven pines in the northeast. :

Spoiler A goody hut and bear central in the North. :

Spoiler The ocean to the east ain't what it used to be. :

Well, you get the picture.

As this scouting was going on nothing much happened. The only two things of note was the completion of another monument, this time in the North.
Spoiler This time the people choose food, on account of the fact they are starving in the tundra. :
Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG

And a slight incursion to the south met with a positively genocidal response from axemen dispatched to reinforce the city since last time.

And thus ends the reign of the color Purple, bellowed by all.

Spoiler PS. We should consider settling the two coastal cities as well as moving the bottom slot here to get access to the fish. :
