ROTQM7: Really?! Okay . . . Thanks for the "Memories"

Welcome back.

one thing I forgot to mention is feel free to bomb one or two artists if you want to. It is almost certain we are going to bomb at least 3 in Gondar and 1 in Aksum.

Also, poor pholk, I knew him well.

Should we hold a memorial service for pholk and get everyone that knows him to speak a few words? A memorial SG where we all play in Pholk style?

Come to think of it, the title of this SG seems prophetic ...

Could it ever finish?????

Ever since I installed BUG in multi-player mode, I can't seem to load up this game from the desktop, I have to load up BtS and then load the game. Anyone got any idea what's going on?

Anyway, onto the game.

Quick check around shows a great person due in 4 turns at 61% artist odds. Our turns to legendary are 75/155/119 in Cahokia/Gondar/Aksum. I bomb 2 artists in Gondar and this becomes 75/121/119.

It is worth noting that Aksum has 2 cottages yet to become towns so it will drop turns along the way (44 and 49 turns).

First IBT has some bad news.

We also only have one worker now

GP arrives and it is a GP.

We find a good use for him though.

Gondar drops from 116 to 112 turns

Next GP in 41 turns.

Alex has galleons as he sinks some of ours  He also has Knights, which we don't really have a counter too at the front (no iron, no pikes).

He also has one less city.

We have less seige and a couple maces.

There is a ship with an elephant and 2 trebs headed for the front, we might have to hold off hostilities until they reach and some more as well, or maybe head for one of Fred's isolated cities. Either way probably best to load them up and move out.

About 100 turns to go.

I have no problem with clicking on the firefox download to launch the save, so I don't know what's your specific problem ....

Hmmm ... is a golden age better or shrine better? Hard to say, I would say shrine might be due to the +3g per turn. So, good choice :D

Phants is a fair enough counter for knights.

Immy is UP

It was a rather succesful set, I guess this game is won. We killed some...

Actually It might be around 70 turns, we still have an Artist in the South, and hopefully we're getting another one in the cap in 14. I don't think we can lose this...

I looked over our massive Empire and swapped around some builds. We've been complaining about not having iron for about 50 turns but privateers don't need iron - and they can certainly hold their own against galleons. I build a drydock and start cranking out privateers - they should make a very nice shield against any incoming forces.

We have 3 units sitting between Greece and Germany so I send them in to pillage - the spear / pike gets picked off so the other two hop a boat for home. Our other small army (3x Galleon, 1xPrivateer, 2xmusket, 4x mace and some cats) go on a whirl wind tour of Sparta.

I swap both of the laggard cities off culture onto coin, our capital on privateers and crank up the slider to 100%. Sure, we are running at a deficit, but the culture from the slider more than offsets the lost culture from the 'build'. In the end, I put Gondar on culture and Aksum on coin - this seems to be the best set up. Both are Legendary in about 90 turns at the beginning of my set.

I also start a market in the capital for the extra coin, but in the end, with our foreign units dead, we don't need it - I have removed it from the queue.

I also bomb the artist in Gondar and cross fingers for an artist out of Cahokia. No screenshots as my set up seems to not want to take screenies at the moment.

Wait a minute, I hear you say - what happened to our units - why did they die? Did we get anything for it? Well - I am glad you asked. At the beginning of the turn, 100% was -14 per turn and we had 66 in the bank. The tour of Sparta yielded ...

Oh - ok, maybe 1 screenshot.

Oh - and we popped something at a mine ...
Spoiler :
gems :(

Why is the text on the tech bar higher than the text on the GP and GG bar? Those BUG people have something to answer for - a few pixels, if you ask me!

what golden age? I bombed 1 artist (inherited from start of round) in 1 city, popped another one at 60% odds and bombed him in the other slow city. I don't think we have another one.

I think what Ruff is saying is we have no more GP (he bombed all, including the new one that pops in Cahokia). Although we have not had a GP-triggered GAge before (we have the Taj-triggered one), with the next GP 61 turns away while legendary in 48, we won't have another GP unless we starve Gondar with lots of artists.

Anyway, got it. I will see what I can do with my 20+ turns, and Ozzy can bring this baby home.

It seems possible to go for a golden age afterall ...

RotQM7-AD1923-GP-bar.jpg

Yes, Cahokia is starving, but it need not starve if we forgo the Gems+Tin mine. That's what we should do, me think.

We got a visit soon after I pressed enter twice:

RotQM7-AD1925-ships.jpg

We took out one galleon, and the rest of his ships decided to suicide against our pirate ships. Nah, you are no match for the Flying Dutchman. This also gives us a GG pop in Cahokia.

But ofcourse that is after he landed his remaining galleons full of phants and trebs

RotQM7-AD1926-land-battle.jpg

I took them out, losing a musket at high odds. Well, it happens. The GG was shipped to Aksum, and settled there. It is far more productive military wise than Cahokia.

RotQM7-AD1929-MilitaryInstr.jpg

I ordered a few more privateers, and went pirating fishing nets. I think we don't have the time to amass another land-base troops, plus we curaisers around, we can't really be effective in land razing/pillaging anymore. So instead I concentrated on ships production, adding a drydock to Aksum.

Mount Helena erupted again ...

RotQM7-AD1930-Volcano.jpg

"Be thankful that the city itself was not struck."

Pardon me? That is so wrong! It should instead be:

Be thankful that the COTTAGES were not struck!

If the volcano erupts again and destroy either cottages, I think there is no time to regrow them. It might be better to simply farm over the tiles and add artists instead.

Some turns later, we got guilds.

RotQM7-AD1941-Frigates.jpg

Unfortunately guilds is not the only thing we got. We also got trouble. Big one.

FRIGATES! :hide: :run:

Our net-pillaging pirate ships fled, and two of them were caught and sunk. One however, manage to slip off (afterall, our Flying Dutchman indeed flies -- with 1 speed higher than Freddy's frigates) and noticed this stack from Alex.

RotQM7-AD1942-Alex-galleons.jpg

They were promptly sunk.

I stopped when Cahokia reached legendary:

RotQM7-AD1943-Legendary.jpg

Can Firaxis tell me why the hell our culture managed to extend to another island that is 6 tiles away across ocean, while not being able to cover the freaking iron 5 tiles away separated only by coastal and sea tiles? :gripe:

Anyway, here is where we stand:

RotQM7-AD1943-situation.jpg

If all goes well, we should win this in abt 22 turns. In 18 turns, we will get a GP. (It currently shows 17, but that is not sustainable since Cahokia is starving). No matter how this person is so great about, he will be burnt to trigger a golden age -- that should cut the current 24 or 25 turns to legendary by 2 or 3 turns.

However, we have the frigates to deal with now. We can't possibly sink any invasion (seeing how AIs always bring 4 galleons escorted by 8 frigates), hence we have to build up land defenses. However, since we rely on our seafood to sustain the artists, we have to put out enough privateers to protect the nets as well. I suggest we get 2 or 3 more privateers, and then add knigts/muskets.

And pray hard for 22 turns or so. :please:

Ozzy, bring the baby home and do the late pholk proud!

Time to close this baby down...

Press enter a few times and...

I have to stop Cahokia starving.

Press enter a few more times and...

I realise that we don't have a galleon to transport our GP in 10 turns so move one up.

Press enter a few more times and...

Build a grocer in Aksum so can employ an artist with the extra health, knocking it down by 1 turn, sadly I have to stop Gondar starving by sacking an artist which knocks it up 1 turn.

Press enter a few more times and...

We pop a GA, realise that I didn't need any boats anyway and start a Golden Age.

5 turns to win, so press enter 5 times and...

Victory achieved without seeing a single AI unit. 3,000 odd points is my lowest scoring win ever according to my HOF as well.

Anyway, it was a blast as always, thanks to all you fine fellows, even the departed pholk.

Replay is attached.
