RR-01 World Conquest

Ok. The Sumerians proves to be more a challenge than expected. Good!

I will play tomorrow night. Here is my plan:
  1. Set Persepolis back to settlers. Settle the W first. Also switch Antioch to give me one settler. It will grow back to size 5 in 1t.
  2. Use reinforcement to reconquer Gordium once I can spare at least 5 immo for it. I may be able to get those just by moving units around. I will wait until it grows to size 2 so I do not have to destroy it.
  3. Once Umma is conquered, go toward Sumer, the next biggest city. Skip Akade for now as it has a very small production and is well protected.
  4. Should I abandon Lagash now? It will be reconquered in the next IBT and we will reconquer it next turn if I don't, which would put it back to size 1.
  5. Drop science to 0%. 1 scientist will do just as well.

I don't particularly like walls in cities that should soon be very safe from attacks, but I am not sure what else to build.

Should I switch Pasargadea to Sun Tzu as a Leo prebuild?

I could make a revolution as soon as Gordium and Sumer falls.

Why not go wonderless? Conquer 'em instead.

The groups need defenders. Build some pikes. Also some skirmishers, so build some horsemen to run recon for advancing groups and hurt approaching bogies for the immortals to finish off. (They will also come in handy when we go aganst the Mongols and the Romans).

Sumeria is now in their GA, so expect lots of archers and Enks to come out of those hills to the north. Their iron is gone so MDI won't be a problem.

Keep sending settlers, and concentrate on the coasts to prevent poaching by Rome and the Mongols.

I remember seeing an injured enkidu warrior near the Byzantines sometime, so I think they already had their GA. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to expect more troops anyways.

There was a lot of Sumerians fighting Iroquois when I was fighting the Iroquois, so the Sumerians got their GA about the same time as we had ours. They also have 2 cities building wonders so I do not expect too much of a counter-attack.

@Bede: I will see what I can do about pike & horse. I am not sure they would arrive in time to attack the Sumerians, but otherwise I will build some for the mongol war.

Ok. I won't build wonders. With the 20% emperor advantage, it would have been a gamble anyway.

@Hajime: Ok. Disband the barrack. The land S of Lagash seems much more hospitable than Lagash itself. Therefore, I would not use the settler to replace it so soon. I think I have a better idea. Reconquer Lagash next turn and post elites around it. If it flips, reconquer it with elite as an effort for leader farming. I would abandon it when I have settled the region S of it and have settlers to repopulate it.

an immo army would be soooo useful for the war on rome so if the lagash tactic is practicle it sounds good.

i would defo advise some pikes, we would only need 1 a group and it would still make a lot of difference.

250AD (preturn)
Wake some garrison and move some units around.
Research to 0%
Antioch & Persepolis switched to settlers.
IBT
Lagash conquered by mace
Build 4 immo, 1 settler, 1 lib.
3 archers approach Jinjan.
260AD (1)
Lagash has a pike as defender!
Lose immo attacking it, and the reconquer the city with 2 elites win.
Lots of workers are moving automatically, IMHO, it is too early to automate workers!
Umma has 3 enk & 1 archer & 1 catapult as defenders. Bombard the enk to 1hp. Conquer the city and abandon it. Oups. I should have waited 1t for my troops to heal, the nearby cities extend their borders up to there.
Kill the 3 archers
IBT
Ceasar wants to trade republic for engineering + 230g. I decline.
Mace kills immo on mountain.
Build 1 worker, 3 immo.
Sumerians start building Sun Tzu.
270AD (2)
Kill the Mace.
280AD (3)
Kill a wandering archer & mace
Founded Herat.
Finish road to new cities
IBT
Build a settler, 2 immo
290AD (4)
Move stacks next to Sumer and Isin
Founded Dakyanus.
IBT
Lots of archers movement.
Build 4 immo, 1 pike, 1 lib.
300AD (5)
Conquer Isin, killing 2 enkno loss, get a slave.
Bombardment red-lines 2 enk & 1 mace defending Sumer. Conquer it without loss and keep it for faster movement.
Kill 5 archers and ... [dance]
RR01_300AD.JPG

@TheMole: Your wish is my command: I make an immo army with it.

I seem to have a lot of luck with leader lately. I had a good teacher in that matter: TimBentley! ;)

IBT
Build a galley.
310AD (6)
Move stack next to Erech.
IBT
3 archers on the move.
Silk deal expire.
320AD (7)
Roman silk costs a lot, but trade mono for it + 10g. That way, we won't lose too much pop in the coming revolution.
Bombard Erech: 2 pikes redlined, 1 pike still have 2hp.
The army picks the 2hp pike and immos kill 2 pikes and 1 archer and capture a trebuchet.
Gordium should be about to grow, so move a stack next to it.
IBT
Build 1 immo & 1 settler.
Aztecs completes TGLib.
330AD (8)
Persepolis just finished a settler, so revolution! Got 9 turns!
Mmf in all cities. The silk helps a lot, but still 2 cities have a food shortage.
340AD (9)
Gordium has not grown, showing that the lone citizen is an entertainer. IMHO, it will never grow, so I attack. I capture it, with 4 workers. I thought I would destroy it and have to replace it, that is why I waited so long.
Load 2 immo into galley heading for Bad-Tibira. The rest of the stack is heading for the Mongolian border
The army is heading for Agade
IBT
350AD (10)
Founded Bampur.
Unload 2 immo next to Bad-Tibira.

RR01_350AD.JPG

The army was going to attack Agade until it was wounded enough to retreat and heal and repeat until the city falls.

The stack is about to attackAkshak. There are 2 galleys ready to take the unwounded attacker next to Bad-Tibira.

Immo are next to conquered cities so they can retake the cities in case of flips. Either abandon the cities when we have settlers to replace them or send immo inside until resistance is crushed and then starve.

The settler was going NW of Bampur, but it could be used to replace a city.

We have 13 immos & 2 trebuchets ready to start the Mongolian war in 2t.

Roster:

TimBentley - up next
Bede - on deck
t3h_m013 (the mole) - behind the plate
rrau - in the field
Hajime - on the bench
fbouthil - just played.

Well, sorry about the anarchy. I still think it was the right time to do it.

Note that you should be able to conquer the sumerian island when the worker finishes to mine the tile next to the city. Automated workers usually hide in the city when there is no more tiles to improve. You may want to wait until the anarchy is over before starting the war against the mongols.

350(0)-Mongols are in despotism; that will have to change when I attack
Move a few immos (try to quell resistance), unfortify immos in jungle
Decide to go for an alternating riot/starvation cycle in Pasargadae (it takes two turns of riot to destroy buildings)
let Sardis lose a little food since it will have to wait for an aqueduct anyways, give cow to Salamanca

IBT-archer leaves Agade

360(1)-army kills two enks, promotes, captures Agade, two workers
bombard Akshak a lot
get one promotion killing three enks and archer to capture Akshak (which has an Iroquois citizen)
get one promotion killing two enks to capture Bad-tibira, worker
notice a slave worker works just as hard as a native worker in anarchy
Notice a Sumerian settler by Viroconium (trying to seek refuge with Rome, hmm?)

IBT-archer attacks army (can you guess who won?)

370(2)-drop off immos by Zabalam and settler

380(3)-immo kills enk to capture settler
vet immo dies, elite immo kills enk in Zabalam to create Cyrus
RR380.JPG

IBT-archer in Zabalam unsuccessfully tries to kill immo

390(4)-ready to attack Mongols soon

400(5)-kill enk in Zabalam
sell monarchy to Mongols for 12 gold
Declare war and move stack by Almarikh
create immo army

410(6)-Mongols are in anarchy
Kill two enks in Zabalam to destroy Sumeria [party]
bombard Almarikh, vet and elite immo kill two spears to capture city
found Tureng Tepe in northwest

IBT-become a monarchy

420(7)-MM a lot of cities and change a lot of builds
start Heroic Epic in Pasargadae
with lux at 20%, only Sardis needs a specialist

IBT-Viking City of Trondheim completes Sun Tzu's Art of War

430(8)-zzz

440(9)-Army kills 2 spears, promotes, captures Ta-Tu, 2 workers
kill some Mongol units, get no promotions

IBT-lose a horseman
Forbidden Palace finishes in Niagra Falls

450(10)-kill some Mongols

Notes:
There's room for a couple of cities near Gordium
The only wonder the Mongols own is MoM, which is rather useless if captured, so raze if you desire. The Mongols do have significantly more culture.
When you get to the Byzantines, you might as well get the republic and all their gold before killing them

Here is the save.

Roster:

Bede - up
t3h_m013 (the mole) - on deck
rrau
Hajime
fbouthil
TimBentley - just killed Sumeria

Got it.

Finish Mongols and Byzantines.

450-550
Carried forward the Mongol war and declared on the Byzantines to keep them from poaching the Mongol coast.

Built fishing villages to discourage interlopers.

Armies and trebs and immortals are moving through the Mongol lands comfortably. The lack of defenders in the stacks cost a couple of immortals even with treb support.

My attempts at leader fishing ended up with lots of elite victories, but no generals, and a lot of wounded elite immortals.

The towns in the core bear close watching as they grow. Keep the MP count at least at two, Lux slider has been oscilllating between 20-40% as markets come on line or MPs are assigned.

Romans have learned Chivalry and are building the KT.

I am starting to get a little worried about where the other guys are. If we don't find them soon I fear we may be way behind the curve. There are galleys on the west coast looking for new friends.

There are two spots left in the west for small settlements (see below). After that just keep shipping settlers to the east, along the coast first, then across the interior. I wouldn't be in a hurry to build libraries or temples in any of the new towns, use settlers to close the cultural boundaries. We need towns more than culture.

The Roster:

t3h_m013 - up
rrau - on deck
Hajime - on the bench
fbouthil - somewhere on planet earth
Tim Bentley - killed Sumeria
Bede - started the ball rolling through the mongols

All right! Good progress! :goodjob:

The Mongols are about to surrender to their new master.

All will bow before us! They will all be mine, MINE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA! (old villain saying)

Rome should be producing about 10shpt, so knight templar should be finished in about 30t, we may wait until it is finished to conquer it, which should be around the end of Hajime's turn. Since we are planning on researching toward MT, TGLight would help us find, heu, new friends. ;)

If we are going to use galleys in suicide missions, there are patches of sea E and W of Bizantium which often leads to other islands or continents.

got it, will play tomorow. basically woop ass and resettle, shouldnt be too much of a problem.

sorry it took a while, turns are starting to take a while

preturn: heroic epic finishes. mongol sword attacks immo and we get promoted. not much else.

560AD: mongols try to go round our main stack with a settler spear word trio. i kill them all with elites and get a great leader while im at it. :P i make another immo army. Move the 2 main stacks towards kazan

570AD pasagadae finishes settler and starts immo, all other towns just rebuild what they finished.
romans boot us.
switch arbela from pike to settler.
found charsada on the west coast of ex mongolian peninsula
Take and raze ulanbastaar (Sp) with immo army.
Bombard kazan and redline with 9 or so trebuchets.
2 immos used to take and raze kazan.

580AD Arbela finshes settler and starts immo.
get another leader through leader hunting at Charsadda.

590AD Niagra falls starts a settler.
Mongols beach a settler spead pair next to a large immo stack.....
Romans found syracus.

600AD bombard tabriz, go 2 for 2. armies take and raze it.
Other main stack is moving towards dalandzadgad.
the mongols are down to 2 cities.

610AD arbela starts settler.
Armies fortify to heal.
Sardis starts the pentagon.

620AD Bombard dalandzadgad, and go for about 5 for 10. 3immos finish the jub and raze the town. it was built on iron.
Stacks move on to Mandalgovi and Heraclea.

630AD Niagra Falls starts setller.
Found Ura Tyrube

640AD byzantines fuond trbizond on the east coast of the mongolian peninsula. send some immos to raze it.

650AD Found new persolopolis.
theres an empty army in tyre or something, i dunno what we want to fill it with. rome will sell us chivalry for cash.

The Mongols and Bizantines are about done. The 2 immo armies are more than enough to cover our troops to get the Romans in the next war. I think it is a good call to leave the 3rd army empty for now. Put it in a safe city far from our borders. I am thinking when we land on another continent, a cav army would help a lot. Of course, the army would probably not be filled completely until it has landed to be able to transport it by boats.

For now, finish those two barbarian civs and try to settle the empty space as fast as possible. Prepare our forces to attack Rome (and start the war if you can get into position fast enough). The chivalry deal costs too much IMHO, Ceasar want close to 2000g for it. I think we can conquer all their continental city then get it for peace (even if we do not keep our word).

We have tons of money, rush things as needed. I think the priority here is growth so aqueducts for cities stuck at size 6 and harbour in coastal cities that are not too corrupted. We could start researching at around 30-40% to get gunpowder faster.

There are 2 goals in the coming Roman war: Going N, throught Antium, Neapolis & Veii to remove their iron & horses or Going straight for Rome to get Silk & TGLight and get a chance of finding other continents faster.

I think I prefer the N passage because it is safer and would give Rome a chance to finish KT for us.

Looks like rrau will finish off the Mongols and Byzantines very quickly, assuming they don't have a settler off somewhere. :goodjob:

The question of getting chivalry is interesting. I don't think we really need knights, since they gain one defense and one movement point compared to immortals for 40 more shields. If we do get chivalry, we should fill the army with knights; otherwise, we should fill it with immortals. Edit: waiting for cavalry is another good idea. Also, we can skip knights and go straight for cavalry in attacking the other continent.

I noticed that Persepolis is producing settlers at size 7 and the lux rate is quite high at 40%. I think lux at 30% with a couple of specialists is reasonable. We should probably start max research towards military tradition.

I forgot to look for Rome's iron and horses. Edit: it looks like fbouthil has

Concur on the plans outlined above.

Persepolis and one other town should go on permanent setter/worker duty. We don't need any more troops. We need markets more than barracks in a lot of places.

Self research is going to be real expensive until we meet some nations. I think our best option is minimum to accumulate cash for trading once we meet the other guys.
