RSG03 (Deity) - Random Attempt at Redemption

(Please go back to Page 4 of this thread where the other post is, if you didn't see it)

Ok so these ones show...

1: We got DF. We all know how rare it is. Let's use it wisely ;)
2: Our lovely neighbour builds a lovely peaceful wonder (and yes, I'm standing close to LV, which I discovered* with a warrior gifted by Sidon)
3: More insight into Ash's military
4: The neighbour Ash is at war with, and likely to exterminate. Had I not scouted in that direction, we might never have known about him, and we would have missed some GPT for our Embassy*
5: Ash takes the neighbour's expo with ease
6: The world ca. T49, with emphasis on the part of that world which will probably see the most action

Some final thoughts upon handover:-

1. I have queued 2 Archers beyond the one currently in production. Feel free to change this, but I think we are going to need them.

2. I considered a bribe to Ash during my 10 turns, to attack Liz or Rameses, but when I saw he was at war, I of course changed my mind. But I still think it would be a strong move to make everyone hate him, and keep him off our backs until our own army is strong enough. Assuming he wipes out everyone's favourite Mandingo, he needs to be pushed onto one of the others. If Liz is NW of our 3rd city, I suggest pushing him there, because if we push him to Rameses and he actually moves his troops for it, then he'll be coming our way. I prefer to send him away from us then stab him in the back.

* = I don't like to gripe, and I'm not pointing fingers, but the scouting prior to my taking over was really poor. We need to find everything that is to be found ASAP. Scouting is not less important on a Continents map, but more so. I hope I don't sound like a Richard Head**, but I really hope that the rest of you guys carry on exploring our environs. War is the priority, as we've agreed, but there could be CS out there that we don't know about, etc.

** = If I do, then sorry, tell me, and I'll be less vocal ;) :)

Don't set up build queues. Essentially you are making decisions for future players. Part of what make SGs interesting is the variety of decision making that occurs from player to player. That doesn't mean your decisions aren't correct.

Roster:

Gurra
Olodune
Menelann <= awaiting a check in
Stormtrooper
Consentient
Beorn <= up
Bugs

Beorn, let me know if you need to swap with me.

What is our research path? Don't we need to be bee-lining CBs? I gently disagree with your tech choices.

Re: Scouting. We used a build that hedged our bets against lots of land to explore, so naturally we are a little slow. At least we have our immediate surroundings uncovered :)

Beorn is out until Thursday, so I think you can safely swap in, Sir Bugs.

Thing is, we definitely could use 4-5ish archers, though we might be underestimating Assyria unless we can spread them even more thinly around the neighborhood. That way we get lots of breathing room. I think trapping is alright to get Ivory up but Construction should work before Philosophy, unless we're planning on stretching it out a bit so we can fit more Archers in.

OK, sure. I thought I was being helpful. I won't do it in future, promise ;)

.

My tech choices? We need Trapping for Happiness, since we only have Incense at present.

Here is the save. Sorry forgot that before.

I think we should hit him with XBs. CBs are unlikely to be enough. But I confess that the original plan was for Construction, so by all means take it back in that direction.

With SoZ, Ash got a big military power spike - probably enough so that his army won't suffer from taking out all of Askia. Pointing him in the direction of England is definitely desireable.

Also agreed on the settlement locations - the NE is a lot more balanced and rich for a starting trio. I still like Teal spot - when we can afford a faith city. We have more pressing matters to attend to right now. XB would do but I'd declare on Ash as soon as we have him stretched out : even with a mix of archers and CB, we can start wearing him out already.

Still out of pocket, keep skipping :)

Preflight – Turn 49 – 2040 BC
A couple of observations:

Opening_zpsrgl3nigv.jpg

1. Consentient should have played to turn 50. We like nice round numbers
2. Looks like we have a continents map.

Did we know that there was a city state hiding here when we decided on a city location?

Looking back at the discussion forum, it doesn’t look like it. Does that change any of our plans? Unless we are too close, I don’t think so.

Askia is getting his head handed to him by the Assyrians. The siege tower is a devastating unit. I think we will need a lot more than 4-5 archers to withstand an assault from Ash.

According to the civilopedia, catapults and siege towers are vulnerable to melee units. We probably need to think about a few spears or even pikes. Of course we would need that tech.

IBT – A bunch of stuff happened, but everything was set to quick so I missed it. Reset in the options.

Turn 50 – 2000 BC – On our first move, this guy shows up:

Let’s hope we don’t have to fight impis. They are brutal. I would like to know where Shaka lives so I swap embassies with him.

That’s pretty close.

We settle Grenoble near Alpe d'Huez. Start with an archer. The city state was Tyre, and we get 15G. We have positive cash flow (+8 gpt) and so money in the bank. We desperately need to improve some tiles so I purchase a worker in Paris sur Sinai.

IBT – Our warrior that met Tyre is almost killed by barb archer and barb warrior. He earns a promotion and the barb camp is left empty. Somebody far away built the Hanging Gardens.

Turn 51 – 1960 BC – Use the promotion to heal the warrior and take out the barb camp. Tyre is now friends and we make 25G.

IBT – Shaka comes in with this request:

I saved at the end of T49, having played ten full turns. It means whoever goes after me gets the pleasure of seeing the AI turns play out before starting their first turn. I certainly can't play T50, otherwise that's 11 turns.

We didn't know about the CS, but by the looks of it, it doesn't matter so much. The best tiles in the three ring are ones it can't get.

Shaka being close to Ash is a good thing for us because it will be so cheap to set the Zulu on him in a joint war. I can see a DoG DoF from Consul S if we play our cards right.

Once we have adequate defence, pushing for a peaceful CV is definitely possible, but we'll probably need to send attack dog Shaka at the Western lot as well to stop them wonder spamming
