Russia: New and Re-Made (Jan 26, 2009)

Well, they're all blond except that old guy with a sword and now the armored horseman :)

Exactly, I would say the "all blond" guys are an misconception/misinterpretation by whatever artists Sandris has held true. I would imagine the "blond" image of the norse, slavic and the germanics is fashioned by its rarity in the roman view of the world.

Romans fought a german tribe. 250 out of a 1000 were pure blond = Germanics are mostly blond.
Thats how human kind (socially, not individually) thinks. Thats how histories are written and thats how we descript and interpret things different than ours..

Like I said, I would do them (light) brown. With that kind of hair, you cannot miss with any european nation.. But since these are civ-units, egzaturation (sp?) is favourable in unit making (arrows being really, really thick for instance) so yeah, nothing wrong with most of them being blond.. And nothing wrong with not all of them being blond. either..

I totally agree with your point Storm, but like you said, this is Civ3, and its cool to have each civ have some characteristics that differenciate them from the others, hair color is one of them, most use black, but some like the Celts and the nordic civs are red-haired or blond.

To follow up on what Stormrage wrote, I'll add:

Blond or dark, it doesn't really matter. To avoid inbreeding, many Eurasian nomadic tribes found wives by kidnapping them from local people. As an example, this was customary among the Turkic steppe tribes all the way up to the middle Ages, so it is almost certain that the large group of diverse people called Scythians enjoyed the same time-honoured tradition.

So the fact that some units are dark haired and some are blond gives these Scythians a nice realistic touch.

Rock on!!!

One thing though... Could someone with a better grasp on the order of Russian tribes/culture please give me a clue as to what order these units go in (ie. Rus, Slavic, Novgorod) in relation to this new/upgrade pack,... pleeeeease. =)

Attached is what my Russian folder currently looks like.

Very good! You have not forget your own Nation. Great Pack!

well now that you are "redoing/finishing" some of your packs.... maybe native Americans... :D.... please:please:

I second that.

And what about a Cowboy-Pack ?!?
If you do so I promise to make a Wild-West-Mod !?!
There is none ,but I even have yet the idea and collected graphics & Units for it. Having Cowboys is still vital for my plans - which have started with your Native American Packs.

The main idea of my mod is that the player must bring Settlers/Pilgrims (Princess/Treasure-Unit) safely from the Eastcoast to the Westcoast. What is ,of course ,disturbed by the Red Indians.

So I`m hopeful that you decide to support my idea with a handful of Wild-West-Units (3 Cowboy; 1 Gunslinger; 1 .....).
A small Pack would be enough for me...

Big Thanks for you work in any way !!!

By the question of ethnographic features of hairs... This is not girl from Germany or Russia. She is from Rasht in Gilan province, Northern Iran.

Indo-Aryan features, they say, are distributed far and wide. Horse lords and all that. Iranians & Skythians were closely related, weren't they? Who cares.

I'm with Cimbri on that heavy Skythian horseman! Mama mia, what am I to do? I think I'll use him as a Parthian cataphract for now.

Thanks Sandris, you are outta hand!

Likely.
According to National Geographic: "[The Scythians] were Indo-European nomads who never completely surrendered to the [Persian] empire. Cyrus the Great is though to have died battling a Scythian tribe".
