Brought to you by the Space Cadets Institute of the Idiot Academy.

This is installment two of the Space Cadets series. All map conditions (except landform) are random, all opponents are random, the nation chosen is random (excluding the Persians from SC01), the level is Monarch.

We seek a space launch victory but for this installment of the saga a variant rule is added. Before the launch SC02 must be elected UN Secretary General. The variant does not require building the UN, it just requires election as SecGen.

Roster:
Jeff1787
ucel
Sir Bugsy
Zalson
Bede

Reserved for AdmK who will join us as soon as he can

Do you have room for one more? I am not that good of a player. I have won on Noble, but I am now playing Prince level. I have come close to winning, but still not quite there........

@jeff, I don't set qualifications for these games (we all start somewhere) so welcome aboard.

@ucel, welcome.

Damn. Too late. Or am I? :D

If I'm not able to join (seeing as spots are reserved for members of the Idiot Academy), I'll have to content myself by lurking...

I feel like I should be playing this game because I actually work at the (real) U.S. Air Force Academy, but I'll just have to lurk :goodjob:

Waiting to hear from Sir Bugsy and the other Academy member. Let's give them 24hrs

First player takes 20, then 15 then 10 after that (IIRC that gets the numbers even). 24 to get it and 46 after that to play.

@Zalson, you are in if the "Reserved" slot does not get picked up in 24 hours

:salute: grs, ready for a Praetorian challenge? :D

@grs and Snaproll, you guys are in for the next, or if a "reserved" slot doesn't get taken

Been pondering on the start location.

Settler 1W to the coast and the cows I think.

We lack visible rivers, meaning a potentially low commerce start. As I see it we have to balance the two competing imperatives of commerce (space) and conquest (diplomatic). This start position pushes us in the direction of the latter as we seem to have more production potential than commercial potential, though the gold hills will make up for some of that at a later date.

The scout's move is unambiguous, though, straight to the village to see what he can find.

I would set the research path down the Mining/Bronze/IW line as I don't think we will pull enough early commerce for an early religion, even starting with Mysticism. I could be wrong (and frequently am). That of course tilts us even further toward the conquest pan of the balance.

I have also thought about moving the settler 1E. We are losing fresh water, but gaining coast (and maybe some seefood ?)

@Zalson, you are in and the roster is now complete.

Rota:
ucel - can you start us off?
Zalson - on deck
Sir Bugsy
Jeff1787
Bede

Reserved for AdmK who will join us as soon as he can

Standard 24 hrs to pick up the save and post a got it. Another 48 to play. Post skips as needed, next player please pick and go.

Screenshots and analytical narratives encouraged, if not required. Any questions on how best to proceed stop and post a question/concern and a save and allow a maximum of 24 hours for commentary before playing on.

Use of the autologger is not discouraged, but please edit to comment on significant events like trades, tech learned, diplomatic situation as you see it.

Sweet. Glad to be able to help.

As for Tenochitlan, I'd say we go with sticking it on the plains to the 1 West, or settling where it is, just for the extra shield bonus. The freshwater would be nice, but I think having a cow would be better than the gold (which we should probably try to pick up soon for...)

Good luck ucel

Go Navy! Beat Air Force! :salute:

Sorry Snaproll, USNA class of '82. It has been ingrained in me since a plebe. :D That and:

Go Navy! Beat Army! :salute:

Sure, I'll start that in few hours.
Do we have already decided if we settle in place or moving 1W?

I prefer Mining->Bronze for tech and War->War->Sett for building.

Survey says: 1W

Use you r judgement but settling in place uses up a forest on a hill and keeps us away from the coast. Moving gets 2f out of a plains field and puts us on the coast.

SInce we start with Hunting I would train a scout and if we head for BW a worker next or timed to arrive with BW. So maybe scout/warrior and chop a grassland forest for the settler.

Good hunting!!

1) 4000 BC
Tenochtitlan founded. Unfortunately no see food in the neighbourhood :(
Startet to build scout there.
Villagers provided us with the map and the location of the next village
Since we have no access to the commerce field I decided to start developing Mining as a prerequisite to Bronze Chopping.

2)
3)
4)
5) 3840 BC
Got second scout from villagers. We have to look for some more villagers and maybe some cash...

6) 3800 BC
Borders of Teno expanded. Still no commerce fields though.

7)
8) 3720 BC
Next scout from the village. I should have really to start with warrior...

9) 3680 BC
Teno: Scout->Warrior
Mining -> Bronze

Found Liz. She propose us peace or she'll kill us. I chose the peace :)

10)
11) 3600 BC
One of our scouts have been eaten by the panther :(
But also the good news: got 28G from one village and map from the another one. Map showed us the next village.

12) 3560 BC
Hinduism FIDAL
Met Hatsy and got Archery from the hut.

13)
14) 3520 BC
Our mighty scout avenged his brother killing the evil panther.

15) 3440 BC
Teno: Warrior->Archer - Explanation below.
Got another 23G from the hut.

16) 3400 BC
Huts are becoming richer. Now got 59G and 73G from the another one. We have 183 at the moment.

17)
18) 3320 BC
Next scout lost to the lion :(

19)
20) 3240
Buddhism FIDAL
Our northern scout won his second fight. Promoted him to Wood I, but the bears are nearby. Luckily he's in the forest...

21) 3200
Northern scout is out as well :(
We have one scout with the health 0.5 and one warrior scouting the black hole near by our city.

First look on the map:

Civ4ScreenShot0091.jpg

As you can see there is the ice-field to the south. That means constant problem with barbs. Therefore I decided to support the city with the archer. He's due to 2, Teno reaches size 3 in 3, I suggest to wait one turn after archer is ready and start worker, then chop a settler.
Use the warrior only to scout if there is no hut in the black region, then put him back to the city or better to the location of new city. Maybe we put it NE from Teno, on the hill. We'll get gold in the hills to the south and flood plains to the north.
Good luck!

Sweet. Got it, and am ready for my first SG turns ever. At first I thought that the gold hills were surrounded by grassland... then I realized it was Blue Marble. Oh well.

I'll take a peek at the save now, and post my prelim strategy.
