Scandinavian Expansion for VD - Brainstorm

I've just started on a norwegian LH called Eric IX. Hopefully you'll find a use for him when I finish him.

I've posted a picture in my Gallery here.

Looks very good, charle88. Just a point of order: Eric IX was not a Norwegian king. He was Swedish.

I really see no issue in including mythological/semi mythological figures as leaders. People like Beowulf, Ragnar, and Erik the Red have had a large impact on Scandinavian culture. This mod seems like it will be very nice when it comes out, and I can't wait to implement it into a map centered on the North Sea I am making. Now, to find a good Ireland mod...

I can't decide if you're serious or not. Assuming you are, would you mind explaining your rationale? I'm curious.

Harald Finehair unified the Kingdom of Norway 872 AD after the battle of Hafrsfjord near Karmoy. His base to control the north-south ocean lane must be somewhere there, where he is buried. Oslo was founded much later and it become capital just close before the union with Denmark. Do you make a modern Norway Civ?

Yes, but that were in the Vikng era, and as far is i'm concerned this norway is the norway existing from the 1200 and up to this date. If you want haugesund as capital, make it capital for the Viking civ, not the later norwegian. And just one more thing... we didn't unite with denmark, they tricked norway into their rule after the plague. We did not willingly "unite" with denmark.

ok, i understand this is a "norway existing from the 1200 and up to this date"- modular Civ:popcorn:

So if I understand correctly you suggest that Harald Hairfair is not a good leader choice for Norway?
If this is the case, who would be a better choice (besides Haakon Haakonson and Gerhardsen who are currently WIP)?
There were tips for St. Olaf and Haakon VII earlier...

i only know this contemporary norwegian person, sorry:worship:

I have a little suggestion to make. The civilizations should have unique buildings and units that reflect their identity, like the Norwegian being sea oriented, and Swedish being melee and rivers, and the Danish being trading or something, as well as naval.

Yeah, what I did was download the map for that one from the Pre-made map section, and then have altered it significantly, and want to have a bunch of civilizations to place in Scandinavia. I also want Welsh and Irish empires as well.

Yeah, there should really be some progress on this, it was a good concept.
I was wondering myself when will NikNaks be available to continue...

I would love to see an expanded Scandinavia, it would be nice to see a galley that could travel in the ocean maybe with restricted movement as a UU, maybe with the chance of losing the vessel in ocean tiles like in previous games. Not sure how possible it is but knowing what we know now about the extent of viking exploration it would be neat to do.

Well.... i think that won't be seen in this expansion as the main goal here is to add new civs, notably Norway, Denmark and Sweden, not redoing the vikings.

That's what he means by "expansion," he did the same thing with the Native Americans by expanding them into multiple civs. Although I'd say the Vikings need it a bit less than they did, it is still cool. I just hope we don't get to the point where we have a Greek expansion into various city-states!

Why not? That would be cool:confused:

Because then it would start getting overboard, and having the Greeks split into different city states for a regular game of civ would be a little ridiculous, having them split into different city states for a mod or scenario is one thing, but I think it's a little too much to do it for the regular game.

They'd have one city on their city-list!

I agree, but:

They'd have one city on their city-list!

You could put the name of the villages which were their territory as well.
