Sentus Populusque Rmnus

Do we research Mysticism to be able to build Research or one of the food techs, and if the latter which one? Do we train Hunters now or continue building Warriors? What do we do with the units we currently possess? We now have four warriors, two in Rome, two outside our borders.

If we still voting on this, my experience with PAE tells me to keep 2 Hunters running around at all time. I even use them in Diadochi PBEM we play. They allow very good value for the hummer price set for them. Food is king early on, Workers would have something to do, building research is not critical in SP. Save some Warriors to protect Workers -- animals attack even in cultural borders in PAE!

It is with great sadness that the tribesmen bury our founding fathers Romulus and Remus who died in a freak accident involving a whole lot of stones flying at their heads after they vehemently opposed a war against our rivals. They both had led long and happy lives, and their memory shall forever live on.

...

After that minute of silence was over men immediately took to their clubs to go have a nice talk with our northern neighbors about who is gonna own this land. :trouble:

Alas, since their village itself seemed to be too heavily defended our warriors instead opted to make camp in the surrounding hills, picking off and ambushing men and women who would gather and hunt for food there.

Not soon after our raids began the people who stayed at home noticed that some of our enemies were hiding in Rome's vicinity as well, and immediately sent out a group of warriors to track them down. Once they saw we were coming after them they ran away, and the hunt was on, going for days and taking our men to another sea. There they met a group of fishermen who didn't seem to hail from the same tribe as the one we are fighting, so our men let them go and continued the pursuit after a short break.

We also made huge progress in refining our hunting techniques and weapons, which will prove effective against both animals and humans.

Unfortunately our enemies don't seem to be in the mood for letting us bring these new tools to bear against them, and sent out almost their entire village to kill our men hiding in the hills. While our warriors had a height advantage and fought bravely, in the end they succumbed to pure numbers, and now our rivals are not only free to harvest the bounties of their lands again but also possess a clear path leading directly to our homes.

Naturally our people isn't exactly thrilled about this, and many have taken to mysticism in the hopes that a supernatural power may help us, or we can at least talk to the spirits of our now dead founders.

Anyone got an idea on what to do apart from running around in circles while screaming like a little girl? :run: There's also the question on what to direct our research efforts on: Agriculture to build workers and uncover some plant resources, Shamanism for happiness, Fishing for the sea or Husbandry to uncover some animal resources?
For the record, we can now also build Research, which only converts 50% of Production though. We can only ever have two hunters at the same time, so regarding city production we basically can choose between Research and Warriors.

Agriculture and warriors. The war has begun.

Improvements cost money btw, which isn't a concern now but once we start training a worker we might want to consider lowering our research rate for a bit.

I suppose I should order the units pursuing the Warrior to our east back home? What about the one still chocking their city?

I was against this war all along. However I am also sad to see the deaths of so many of our brave warriors. They would have been more useful at home, killing animals to feed our people. I am already weary of this war! (;))

Speaking of feeding our people, I'll say it again, we should continue to uncover the mysteries of the earth and soil and the many fruits they could bare.

I don't think we can build any improvements, but could be wrong.

Well, it's hard to choose a tech with few info.

If we lack :), go for Shamanism;
If we may build improvements, go for Agriculture;
If we may build fishing Boats and get sea resources, go for Fishing;
If nothing of this is possible, gor for Husbandry or Agriculture;

Hunters whenever possible > buildings > warriors.

Hunt Etruscan wandering warriors with Hunters and Warriors. When they are all over, head to Etruscan city and start Range Bombarding it with Hunters. Then by that time we focus on unit production and take their city!

What about the warrior northeast of Clevsin? Should we order him back or leave him there?

Did we inflict any losses on them?

We took out one warrior and heavily wounded another, that's all.

I will abstain from this meeting.

So what you are saying is you are gonna volunteer to be our next hunter?

I say we send in reinforcements and take out their city.

Because of the recent defeat on the Marble hills our warriors previously tracking down some stragglers have split into two groups, one marching back home to defend Rome against a possible counterattack, while the more skilled and better equipped men continue their pursuit.

On the other side of the known world meanwhile the group hiding in the forests near the enemy settlement has decided to wander back around the mountain to keep the corpses of our fallen soldiers from being desecrated. After they scared the remaining foes into fleeing back to where they came from they returned to the woods until reinforcements from Rome could arrive.

Fortunately it didn't take long to find some troublemakers volunteers, and before they could say "But I didn't..." four men going by the names of Decimus, Klaudius, Valerius and Marcus already found themselves leading a group of hunters and warriors to a glorious death battle.

While most of the men were away and not much food was coming in from hunts the tribeswomen had to be creative in finding new ways to feed themselves, their children and the elderly, and many took to planting crops so as to not only rely on gathered fruits and captured fish anymore.

attachment.php

Many an important decision has to be made now: Shall we reconquer the marble hills to avenge our dead and continue the pursuit of the stragglers through the Savannah? In fact, should we continue our warlike ways at all, or rather order our warriors home and see if we can't improve the land surrounding us?

What about the ratio of Gold to Research? We need gold to build improvements, but foremost we need to train a worker. Also we could work the hill to the east of Rome instead of north to get more commerce rather than hammers.

We didn't discover a single farmable resource? That's sad

We shall never come back! Our forces are to control the land around us! That's the way of Rome!

Can we farm those swamps? If so get a worker and go for it! If we go for the worker, no tile changing is a must to make it faster. Put some turns with no research just to get enough gold to make the farm, then go back to what was before.

About the techs I can't decide with only the info you gave. But for now I place my bets on a water resource and we should go for Fishing

Farms are enabled by the Plow, not Agriculture, as of now we can only build Camps I think.

So everyone fine with killing those two units at >95% odds?

Pull back our warriors. We need to improve our land and protect our people. The war is not going our way. Also, we must learn the way of the plow.

But both possible battles we can fight now will be very easy victories. :confused: Shouldn't we at least kill those two units before making peace with them?

Btw Aeneas is willing to talk now.

Well I don't know PAE too well so if the battles are easy to win then go for it, but we shouldn't make the war last for longer than it needs to. And only accept peace on your terms.
