Even though the last two fights were decisive victories for our people, retaking the marble hills near our enemy's settlement and wiping out the stragglers on the other side of the known world, the Romans nevertheless grew tired of this war. Even if we could hold the surrounding lands indefinitely, there was no way to conquer our neighbors completely without almost wiping ourselves out as well. Thus it was decided to put an end to this senseless bloodshed.
After the warriors had given both our own and the enemy's fallen men a proper burial the pack's leaders set out to offer peace. They left their weapons behind and only brought a fruit with them to give to our rivals, hoping such a simple gesture would be understood even over the language barrier. The men guarding the settlement were wary at first, but they did accept the gift and let our messengers leave after a bite out of it had proven that it wasn't poisoned or a similar trick.
Our warriors finally returned back home and the entire tribe was about to hold a lavish feast in their honor, until it became clear that there wasn't really enough food to go around. With our best hunters fighting other tribes instead of, well, hunting, there was barely enough to feed the women, children and elderly which stayed in Rome, never mind the sudden influx of hungry mouths with the return of our troops. The awing and welcoming words of the settlers quickly turned into nagging and complaining, forcing many warriors and hunters to leave yet again and not come back unless they brought meat with them.
These men still had it better than our hunters who tracked down and killed the Etruscan stragglers to our south though, for they were now farther away from the tribe than anyone ever before. It didn't help that they took a wrong turn and wandered to the very end of our peninsula before they noticed that Rome actually was the other way, which meant that the way home would take even longer than they thought.
Back in Rome meanwhile it was discovered that the nearby sea was filled with delicious and nutritious fish, even moreso than the rivers. Now that everybody had finding food as their highest priority again methods were quickly developed to efficiently capture this new prey. Finally our tribe could return to their old peaceful ways and not worry about hunger or enemy attacks anymore.
What are we to focus our research on now? Husbandry allows the Pasture improvement, uncovers several animal resources and is required for Boat Building (Fishing Boats!). Archery gives us the Basket Archer, Shamanism a cheap Building for extra happiness, The Plow allows the Farm improvement and uncovers Rice ( which I sincerely doubt we'll find in 3800BC Italy

), and Viniculture finally allows us the Winery improvement and uncovers the Grapes resource.
Something I should remind everybody of, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, is that resource specific improvements can be built without any resource and indeed have a small chance of popping one when being worked, similar to mines in the base game. They also give a yield bonus, so really farms aren't that high a priority as some seem to think imo, especially when the only farmable land seems to be swamp.
Obviously Rome should work the Fish as long as it's training the Worker and probably afterwards too, it's our best tile now.
We have four warriors, all in or around Rome, and two Hunters, one at the very tip of Italy and the other (DKVM) to the north. What do we do with all these units? I'm sure our tribe will get some great ideas now that we are at peace and well fed.
