Serving in secret: Being transgender in the US military

My posts in this thread were genuine and written about myself, not anyone else.

That is not being offensive to anyone.

I'm willing to bet transgendered people would feel differently.

I'm willing to bet that you are wrong.

Considering your reaction to this thread is to instantly equate transgenderism with transexuality, two different things and then go onto to use the word "tranny" i'm fairly sure im right.

I see little difference between the terms. That doesn't make you right.

One is being born in the wrong body, the other is dressing up as the opposite gender.

Those are pretty big differences.

Ok. Then I was born in the wrong body.

However some people are both those things.

So having transvestite desires impair my social skills greatly because of my disability?

Stop being trannyphobes!
the word tranny of offensive to transwomen in the same sense that fag and are offensive to gay men, sure there might be some who claim it as an identity, but to the vast majority it is offensive
You are ofc wrong:

'Tranny, the highest-profile of these words, is both a slur and a term of endearment, a brand that can sting and a badge that can be worn with pride.'

http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2014/05/30/is_tranny_a_slur_or_an_identity_who_decides.html

As such I can freely call myself a tranny if I want. Get over it.
I love how it is a white cisgender gay man pontificating about transgender stuff. Gay white men can be pretty transphobic.
I'm willing to bet that you are wrong.
No, he is correct that transgender people find your posts offensive

I believe you meant to say "transvestism" instead of "transgenderism"

One is being born in the wrong body, the other is dressing up as the opposite gender.

Those are pretty big differences.
The phrase of being born in the wrong body is quite simplistic and somewhat inaccurate, but it is the easiest way to explain it to cissies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tranny_(slang)

'Tranny is a slang term used chiefly to describe people who are transgender, transsexual, wearing drag, transvestites, or cross-dressers. The term is considered a slur by some transgender activists, such as Roz Kaveney.[1] The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) state that the term is "usually considered offensive and/or defamatory" by members of the transgender community.[2] The trans and drag performer community is believed to have originated the term,[3] and many members of the gay community feel the word is a term of endearment.[4]'

I consider "tranny" offensive in more the same way I consider "Jew," "lesbo," "homo" and "fat" offensive. To me, they're all words that you might even hear people from those groups use, themselves, but they also just have a negative connotation. There are better ways to call people those things, because those ways are not used as insults at times they way the ones I list above are.

Most trans people I know consider the word to be a slur and most of them wish people to avoid using it. I know some trans people who use it for self-description, much as some in the LGBT community use "queer", but object to other people using that same reclaimed slur back at them. (Incidentally, one of the reasons I tend to avoid reclaimed slurs.)

While most sources do call it a slur, it is only described as such when targetted towards others.

It is not a slur to refer to oneself as a tranny. I rest my case.

Getting this offended over someone calling themselves a tranny is quite frankly ridiculous beyond being an overly politically correct online SJW.

No, your disability impairs your social skills. This is what I got from what you posted in the past and is definitely understandable.

And what does that have anything to do with this thread?

Yeah, the gay community which can be pretty transphobic finds it a term of endearment.

And what does that have anything to do with this thread?

People were baffled and annoyed that you insist on saying insensitive things. I'm just explaining to them why they shouldn't be.

Nothing I said in this thread was insensitive.

You just have to be an annoying armchair warrior to take offense to anything I wrote in this thread.

And even if you find it insensitive, grow a thicker skin!

Of course you don't think you said anything that was insensitive.

As someone on active-duty right now, I could care less if your Gay, Bi, a man, a woman, a tranny, a jew, black, white, green, etc etc etc etc. If you want to serve fine by me, I really could care less who or what you are if you do your job. So long as you being whatever you are doesn't interfere with the mission I don't care. Now the only issue a I do see with this is if you are physically a male but wanting to be a female I don't think women would be comfortable having a "man" use their restrooms and same applies the other way. Also I don't think DoD should foot the bill if you decide to go through with a full surgery to change what gender you are physically. The last thing that I'd see as an issue would be uniform wear. Female uniforms especially are designed for females and would not present a professional image with a physically male individual wearing them. So I'd suggest getting rid of female specific items, since all services make it optional for females to wear those items anyway, (with a couple exceptions).

Don't call them "tranny". A couple years on HRT substantially feminizes the body including face though effects are partially dependent on age when they transition.
