SGFN-08: Random AWM Succession Game

Lurker's comment: You could consider starting up 2 SG's, because with so many players you're gonna have some people dropping out simply because they're not getting involved enough, I mean, when will your turn be if you're number 8 on the list?
I was a newbie myself once, and I think especially a newbie is looking out to get a turn in, while a veteran will be more at ease with sitting back.
Optional's right. With this many players, a second SG is called for. Otherwise, it's going to seem like ages between turnsets for the guys who are new to SGs, both in terms of RL time and empire development. With 8 players (is that right?), a lot can happen in the 70 turns that get played in between one players turnsets.

Is that more noticeable in AW, vmxa? I've never noticed it overmuch in a 'normal' game.

You are very unlikely to have to be concerned in normal games as you can control when and whom you are at war with most of the time. You then do not have much of an issue with them gabbing workers.

Even when at war in a std game, it will probably be with one nation coming form one direction or two nations. If this SG is at all hard, it may not be, you will tend to get troops in your lands for turn after turn in AW and from more than one direction.

This makes it hard to get tiles worked and not lose workers. You have to cover them or put them in the safest areas. I never played any AW SG that we did not lose workers and I am not counting those we are sending back home from foreign lands.

It is very very rare for me to lose a worker in a std game.

Hopefully we never meet VMXAs Cavalry, as we will remember that using armies to pillage enemy resources is also critical.

You may not as mostof my recent AW games were with 31 civs and on massive maps. I was trying to recall what I could of the std map AW games, but they were no at Monarch.

If I can put down my campaing in Warlords for a while, I may try a AWM on a std to get a refesher on what to expect. Did you mention or know what the land tpye is, pan or cont or islands?

I've more or less retired from Civ as a game, I just hang around here because I like the forums. But if an extra hand is needed to make 2 SG's an easier option then I would jump in.
All the experienced SG players (Overseer, DWetzel, Daeron) say they want Always War. If somehow a non-Always War game is gonna start I would be best joining that one.

Is there interest an a non-Always War game or does almost everybody want Always War?

I'm definitely interested in non-always war.

I'd be interested if there's a second game. I used to play on Monarch on a regular basis, but I've gotten rusty from inexperience. I'm more interested in a straight game than in Always War.

I've already mentioned wanting to play a passive variant a few times. :)

What about another 5CC ? on Monarch maybe ?

btw, OverSeer, what is the roster in here ?

I would be interested in a game without any restrictions, preferably at demi god (or even deity) on a standard map, though no lower than emperor

Possibly you'll want a seperate thread for the non-Always War game, as Goodsmell suggested. There are enough players for that, and then you can discuss which rules you want for that game.
You wanted non-Always War, goodsmell? Maybe you should then kick off that other thread, as this was your idea and it wouldn't be polite to hijack it.

This is what I had before:
1: TheOverseer714
2: Gamezrules
3: Mike Hussey
4: DWetzel
5: Sparthage
6: Goodsmell

I think Mike wants the other game, so I'll pencil Splunge in his spot. I hope to play my 20 tonight, then the rest can get their turns in.

MAtters not to me!

I'll also point out that in AW games, it's frequently OK to play shorter than 10 turn sets as the game gets deeper. Basically, if you only have time to play 5, play 5. That's much nicer than holding the game up for a week trying to play 10.

Should be fine.

Roster:

1: TheOverseer714=> up
2: Gamezrule=> on deck
3: Sparthage=> warming up
4: DWetzel=> waiting patiently
5: Splunge=> ready to rock
6: Goodsmell=> C'mon guys hurry up!
7: Lanzelot=> polishing his armor

I'm happy to fill in if anyone needs a 'pass' or a 'skip' though!

Sure Mike, no problem, we need extra playerss to keep the game moving.
