SGOTM 03 - Maintenance Thread

LOGISTICS REMINDERS:

1. The saves have all been created based on the latest versions of the HoF Mod. These are listed and linked in the first post of this thread. You will not be able to open the saves unless you have downloaded and installed the appropriate Civ4 or Warlords version of the Mod.

2. The saves will be available at 00:00:01 am on December 1st., server local time. To eliminate any confusion as to which midnight I mean, that is about 26 hours from the time of this post. You will find them here. Click the 'Start' entry for your team to download your file.

3. You MUST only download your own team start save. Each save is branded with the team's name.

4. When you complete your turns, upload the end-of-turn save at this page. All you have to do is to select the file, enter your own Forum Name, and hit Upload. That's the Name that appears next to your forum posts and in the team lists. (NOT your team name - we get that from the save, NOT your real name, email address, girl/boyfriend/dog's name ...)

5. After you have uploaded the first turn set save the 'Latest Save' column will show the game date of that save, and the next player can download it by clicking that link. Rinse and repeat.

Hope you enjoy the game :D

What is the local time in relation to GMT? What I mean is, is it GMT +0, GMT +1, etc.? Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the server locale time is GMT -4. Thanks.

It occurs to me that the default name for manual saved and autosaves are pretty generic, (autosave_BC-3970, or Playername BC-4000) and the save on exit option in HOF mod creates an elaborate name composed of three letter abbreviations for the game settings.

So in the process of creating manual saves, or of reloading an autosave in the event of a crash, do we need to create a particular name structure so that the upload save at the end of a turnset is in the right format? Or does the mod or the upload software handle all of that?

The Upload server renames our saves when we submit them. For instance, the next time you upload a save, download that same save using the link provided by the GOTM site. You'll notice the name has been modified even though its the very save you just uploaded.

Saving at the end of your turnset will automatically offer to name the save with your team's name and the year that you are saving at. No need to rename or reformat. It's all very intuitive.

Actually Alan posted 4am my time, that is GMT+1
He said in 26 hours. That would make 6 am my time, midnight on the server.
GMT+1 - 6 = GMT -5, not 4.

Dunno if we're allowed to know this info, but I'm curious and in case we are: ;)

Are the Warlords and vanilla versions of the map identical in every regard, including things like placement of resources and all AIs having the same leaders and starting on the same tiles? So the only differences arise as the game progresses from the different leader traits, units, game-mechanics, etc. in Warlords vs vanilla? Or are there some differences in the maps/AI opponents too?

The server is at UTC - 5. (or GMT - 5 if you prefer)

Your save can have any name you like. The upload script will rename it to include your team name, the game, the date, and a sequence number.

The Vanilla and Warlords versions have identical maps. They have the same 18 civs and leaders. The traits are the ones that come with those 18 leaders out of the box, and are therefore different in some cases.

Re. versions, see the sign-up thread:

Versions
Each team will have a choice of playing this map in Civilization IV version 1.61 or in Warlords version 2.08. The maps and civs/leaders will be the same in each version, but the games will play differently. Gyathaar has compiled some guidance on the differences in the next post in this thread. The civs and leaders will have the traits, UUs etc that are assigned out of the box in each of the two versions.

Since I, and some of my teammates, are new to the HoF mod, I wanted to be clear about the gameplay changes (as opposed to interface changes) from vanilla 1.61 to the .009 HoF mod. Looking through the release notes, these appear to be:

1) Fixed whipping bug: I assume this means that when whipped, each citizen is worth 45 hammers (plus appropriate production bonuses).

2) I also am assuming that overflow hammers are calculated properly. E.g. When I complete pyramids using organized religion, and then immediately start a library, both get a +25% forge bonus, but only the pyramids get the "have stone" bonus.

3) If you gift a loaded galley/galleon/transport, both the boat and any troops are gifted.

4) Fix of production queue bug which allowed civs to construct other civ's unique units.

5) Fix of "multiple use of great persons" bug. (I don't know what that was, but I assume I don't need to know either.)

Am I wrong about any of these assumptions? Are there any other gameplay modifications?

Thanks, and looking forward to playing the game.

EDIT: Behind the spoiler tag is a justification for this post. It's basically me whining about the following post, so don't feel too compelled to look at it.
Spoiler :

This game has a required mod that not everyone has experience with. It also makes changes to the base gameplay for vanilla 1.61. I think that the question is relevant to this thread and its audience and is timely for being asked before the start of the game.

I went to the HoF page and read through the changes made for each revision. While the great person bug was explained in a link, the other changes are vague. I summarized both the list of gameplay changes and what I think they mean.

Yes, I could go through the hall of fame mod forum, read through all the posts, and verify if my interpretations are correct. But someone reading this thread must know if they are correct and be able to correct me if I'm wrong. The information will then be of use not just to me, but to everyone who has little experience with the most recent HoF mods who is playing the vanilla version of this game.

Trash Team now down to five: Wilburn dropped out due to real life coming first. So if there's any keen (and slightly masochistic) players thinking 'I missed my chance to play SGOTM3 on Warlords' this is your opportunity. Sign up! It's not too late!

I just tried to upload the save, but I get an error?

This is all the message I get

@namliaM: Please email me the save, as recommended on the upload page. Can't fix it if I can't see it :p

AlanH. Would it be possible to have seperate score graphs for warlords and vanilla or would this be too much hassle?

There's a column of checkboxes in the Team Summary table called Include in Graph. Just click the appropriate 'All' button to toggle 'Include in Graph' to OFF for the version plots you want to hide. Then click the Refresh button to display the graph with only the included plots.

Create a shortcut/favorite for the resulting page so that you can get back to the same setting easily in future.

[X-Posted with culdeus - far more succinct ]

Interesting that with the graph that you can sort of imply what people are doing with their opening.

Well, the graphs would be a bit of a waste of effort if they didn't give you some useful information :p

Hmm.. What's the color of Xteam's graph called? ;)
