SGOTM 09 - Maintenance Thread

There are lots of ways to gamble in the game, and this is definitely one that each team can choose for themselves, unlike random events. I disagree that complete spaceship logically follows from the discussion of random events.

to avoid any gambling :) We spent a lot time discussing events and refused events. So complete spaceship demand looks like logically substantiated action.
We also didn't discuss whether teams should be allowed to "gamble" and settle on T1 instead of T0. Should this be allowed?

I'm making light, Gosha190, but with serious intent. The victory condition is already specified, and no qualifications such as you're suggesting were made. Fastest Space Victory. That's it. If CRC feels it necessary to gamble, then maybe it is. :p Go for it...

Why would anyone launch a spaceship with less then 100% success chance? That's just silly IMO, unless you know the exact launch date of an opposing team and only gambling gives you a chance to beat it. But exact finish dates are concealed in SGOTM, so nobody is going to gamble anyway.

You are right, it doesn't make sense to gamble right at the end of the game, and throw it all away. So I don't see the need to further specify the VC.

And there's still other gambles in the game that cannot be removed: attacking at 70% odds is a gamble. And so is poluting your GP gene pool...

The fastest Space victory is all that is specified. You are free to choose how you achieve that, within the normal rules of SGOTMs. You would have to make a very strong case to persuade me to redefine the victory condition at this stage.

I don't see any problem with partial vs full space ships. That's part of normal space strategy and I don't see any need for imposing artificial limitations, especially given the context we're already working.

It's going to be a tech race regardless ;).

We spent a lot of time discussing whether to remove random events whose incidence and impact are outside a player's control. The chief counter-argument was that every other mechanic in the game is random, so we should just deal with it. Nobody suggested removing random elements whose incidence and impact are under a player's control. Choosing to launch a spaceship with non-assured success is a random element a player could choose if they felt it necessary.

Oh...a tech race? Maybe that is what our team is doing wrong. We have been running research at 0% to stock pile gold. Is this not a good strategy?

Semantics . The race isn't over the first 60 turns or something, it's over the entire game. I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and assume your team stockpiles gold because doing so increases your average tech rate across the game, not decreases ;). Just a guess, you know.

I mean, running commerce in deficit after accumulating :science: multipliers? Settling enough cities to have a good long term rate? UNHEARD OF . Nobody does THAT in standard games .

 Has this maintenance thread become a general chit chat thread?

I'd like to share next info.

How anyone can move airship into black color map.
1. You need open borders with AI.
2. You don't need to know AI map at all.
3. Select your airship, press and hold right mouse button and move mouse cursor over black map. When cursor is green it means that you hold them on AI's city! Release right button and your airship will be moved to that city.

Interesting exploit...

Using two airships will also do the trick, one to explore and the other to rebase. So in my opinion it is not a huge benefit, but definitely useful (although not totally as intended by the designers)

I hate this kind of stuff.
