SGOTM 14 - One Short Straw

Okay, I uploaded 1130AD. Mansa is now defended out the a$$. No chance to take here spoke cities. Monty on the other hand is undefended. He has 2 axes in one city by Oz. Take a look.

Bbp, maybe you should take it. I'm zonked and can't think straight.

"Done playing."

Let me know if you're going to take it or I'll start up again.

Also, if for some reason we are short on population points, it may be most effective to raze (instead of capturing) a couple of Cities belonging to Gandhi/Monte, to prevent them from being able to recapture said Cities.

EDIT: Cross-posted... obviously if we need the Cities for the Land Limit, we'll have to keep and hold them.

If we're going to DoW Monty/G, beware of this:

If we Cease Fire Mansa, is there a chance that after ending the turn, he will have moved his units around, allowing us to get the jump on him on the following turn... even if it just means that some of hits units moved out of a City and back in, thus losing their Fortification bonuses?

Scratch that. Gandhi and Monte have knights wandering around the hub... I need to think about this.
I see two actions:

1. CF Mansa or not? If not, his knight SoD might eat our stack alive. But he didn't attack last turn, so maybe not. Plus, if he does, who cares? If he doesn't that stack can move on That MOnty city next turn. ON the other hand, no need to panic. Just CF, save our stacks and we live to play another turn. That's what I woudl do. Mansa's useless to us anyway. Let's be a bit patient and work out a plan on Monty. We got his back door whenever we want it. Maybe we even take a turn or two and set up capturing 3 or more backdoor cities. But whatever you do, do it in the next half hour... :)

2. Next turn seal up those holes in the hub where they are and then close borders, see what happens to the knights. Figure out a plan of action.

Just do it, bbp, do something. :) I tried putting everything to sleep. YOu have just one more settler to settle up by GK, I think. I'd put the Great Artist in that Monty city in the hub. That will get a lot of tiles including some mountain. There's another settler on teh galleon (along with the GA) over by MOnty. That settler could go just under the mountains, after we capture that city. Gets a few more tiles.

Spam Settlers (whip and Galleon Chain) to settle areas for even 1 or 2 extra squares in places, such as our Dye at our core area or other locations near where we have settled other Cities but where there are some unclaimed land squares?

We don't actually need to kill off any of the AIs if we get enough Cities... and at worst we can just raze some of Monte's Cities at the end.

Spamming Settlers is probably our fastest bet.

1200 AD domination. We came up 1 tile short the previous turn. Had some really crazy moments with those two knights in the hub, but we survived.

Great effort, boys! :goodjob:

LC is my hero.

Edit: shame we ran out of time. I think 1150 was easily doable.

Wow, glad to hear that you have finished the game! It was a fantastic endgame! Did you upload the last save before the deadline?

Congratulations on the win guys, I can't believe you made the deadline... and 1 tile short from winning in 1190ad, ouch.

Good job, bbp! Quite a finish. I think we did pretty well, all things considered. It's not easy playing when most of the team goes awol.

Fun game. I liked Nelmeister's mountain decoys...

Then entire world was watching! Great job, Straws!

I think we were sweating just as much as you watching this finish
