SGOTM 21 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

As I mentioned in a previous post how are we going to set up a galleon chain? I've never really taken to much notice of it before and we've never used it in SGOTM's either.
I can't believe you don't boat chain. With enough boats, you can move X units around the world in 1 turn!

We station galleons every 5 tiles basically (position a) from start to finish. You load at one end, move the galleon to the next in line and move the units onto the galleon with full movement, rinse repeat to the finish (position b). The next turn, the last galleon unloads the units and all galleons move back to position a. Every other turn you can drop 3 fresh units. Double the boats to drop 3 units every turn.

As the target moves farther away, new boats fill the back of the chain, allowing the lead boats to keep moving ahead. Clearly the fastest way to move units around the map, even after rails. You can literally circle the globe in a single turn with enough boats.

I knew the science behind it. Just missing the point.. Obviously starting a war you need to have a few ships for landing the first army. Then how do you protect the ships in the chain? It only needs an attack by a couple of caravels to break it. Not hard at this stage.

I haven't moved the units in (former) England. I assume if we want an AP victory we need to keep Liz alive and our opponent. Take peace now?? I would anyway. Get her to change back to Christianity as well might open borders?

Did take a bit longer than planned but decided to use our siege to reduce defences though did lose a few units.. :sad: Both her cities will come under quite a bit of pressure but as they have seafood and not that important in the scheme of things, Apart from the MoM and UoS... Make Christian buildings much more important. hammers and research.. :)

We had a GS in TripleClam so we are to have a new GA when we want it plus we still have the option of the GE and an instant Taj. No marble atm to boost chopping it in the Hague so will leave that open for discussion.

Initial thoughts.

Do we want to trigger a GA now, or build the Taj with the GE? I would favor Taj with the GE.

I would like Ulundi building siege so we can start with either Accuracy or CRII. Also, as a general rule, try to build mounted units further in the rear.

We should specialize 1-2 cities for mounted units and build Stables.

Once we get Chemistry, a few Privateers then Frigates from Ulundi.

Frigates elsewhere also. Tactically from here out this will play like an archipelago map. Frigates get to cities ahead of stacks and reduce defenses.
 
We do want to get to rep asap as that will give us a significant boost to our tech rate which we need imho.

Its likely that Louis will go Merc very soon so using our current forces and taking Paris seems like a good idea otherwise we should self tech after chemistry.

Remember we are still at war with Liz so peace for all her gold seems advisable now. :)

Couple of thoughts.

If Louis doesn't already have Christianity there are a couple of missionaries moving in our lands so use one of them to spread before taking his cities.

I'd look to whip out some more Christian temples with the UoS bonus as well.

Civics.. What are we thinking.. Imho I would go Rep (when available), Nationalism (much cheaper than burea and FS won't do anything for us). Caste whilst in GA. Do we stay in OR or go FR. Obviously FR will stop the UoS bonus. Perhaps theocracy whilst in GA and troop building.

Lastly we can try and kill Liz's trireme. All helps towards our next GG. :)

Taj in 3Fish?
 
3 Fish is GPP farm. Taj makes sense to me there with the GE.

Missionaries to Louis' cities we don't plan to capture. ;)

I can't see drafting pop in a GA and Nationhood saves us less in maintenance that Athens is gaining from it's bonus, so I would stay in Bureau.
 
Civics cost though it would have to be worked out to see if its cheaper. Drafting the odd musket wouldn't hurt either.. Bureacracy is high cost. Nationhood is free. With a large empire it would make quite a difference.
 
We would currently save 33g/t in maintenance by going Nationhood.

We make 36g/t from Bureau before all the building bonuses get applied in Athens. Athens currently produces 6 times the science as the next closest city, or the same science as the next 7-8 cities combined. I think we should not change yet.
 
Started playing this morning. Turns are taking a long time. I played the inherited turn + 1 more. Off to work now. No upload, nothing has happened except making peace with Liz. We got her gold + 3g/t and switched her back to Christian.

Played to T164. Still in the middle of it really.

We are in position to DOW Louis now with 27 units in the north and 4 in the south very close behind. There is also a fresh galleon on the west coast with a couple trebs getting close to boarding.

The problem is the gem hill I want to land on is occupied by a WE and a Pike. :( There is not enough movement in the galleons to move far enough to get to the hill east of Paris. I want to land there now as it will be better defensively, so DOW next turn.

I am ready to keep playing if I get approval to attack next turn.
