[BTS] SGOTM 25 - Home Slices

If they want to demand Ivory, go ahead and give it. We'll have it back before we need the happy.

Normally, we don't commit to research until t4, but that's ancient starts. Is it OK to go til then on classical?

Isn't a gspy unkillable? Barbs can't touch it, right? It can explore Japan, etc. with closed borders (as if we need that with our bomber)
It can't get caught in their land, right?
The only downside with bomber recon is that we wouldn't see the units. Right?

Edit: Nope. We do get to see the units.

Worker: pasture pig (done T+11)
Questions: what does the worker do next - horse? Are we cottaging this city?

One thing to put on the list for this worker is roading to the gold and mining for happiness. 3rd ring borders pop quickly here (T14). Not saying we do it before the horse, but maybe, or maybe some of the roads. Not a fan of cottages.

Let the clam go. That city might do the workboat for us and a worker and mine those gems before we capture it. It's going nowhere without those clams.

The horse is nice to get online asap. The hammers contribute to the granary.
Overall, I think the workers, especially Yan'an and Beijing, will get stretched quickly. Are we assuming that we steal #4, or should we consider slotting it into the early builds?

Tell me about it. :D
Duh. :mischief:

If you're asking me, you're asking the wrong person. We're already planning to build 3 more workers than I like to build :)
However, I'm not sure I like starting a war when all we have is archers and they have longbows. Would a longbow attack? maybe.

Reconnaissance -- What are our priorities?
1. Connecting trade routes -- Guangzhou already has +3c with England, maybe defog east to get 2c routes with Bismarck and France?
2. Worker steals -- do we need a better unit for this?
3a. Finding offshore landmasses -- England, how soon do we need to know how big England is?
3b. Is Washington accessible without Astro?
4. Circumnavigation
5. General defogging

Yes, our GSpy is very helpful when capturing slaves. Japan is presumably to the east and farther from his liberatable city than to our capital. Our bomber can focus on other areas.

I was just looking at whip wb > grow to 4 on granary > 2pop whip worker > complete granary with OF in 16t.

If we go whip wb > gran > worker > cha / gift / recapture, that looks like about 15-16t, as well?

Here is a slightly updated test save. I'm too lazy to re-build it right now, and the map is too small.

If the capital is on an island, would that also make the city liberatable?

Some useful values:

Mehmed will DoW others at Cautious, which could be useful for regaining OBs with our espy-culture target, to make spy missions safer.

The bottom line shows the AIs' hidden attitude toward us at this point in time, with the caveat that it's missing the data of the final AI, but it's probably valid.

Note that Toku, Mehmed, and Stalin are all -2, going to Annoyed at -3. This also tells us that +4 fair trade plusmods with Toku wouldn't get him to Pleased for OBs, so the ivory trade is useless.

Hm...if Toku's on an island, his worker's probably there too, right? We might have to look elsewhere for a steal. Who?

I made a mistake not checking our coastal city. :o

The Great Lighthouse and The Colossus are available for our game!
Spoiler :

That's weird for a Classical Start, isn't it?
I know the Statues and Oracle are already gone, but I thought TGL and Colossus would already be gone too.

I feel paralyzed by the vast amount of choices we have at the start.
All we can do is play a few turns and gather the most info possible using the Bomber before making plans.

***************
I think our 1st conquest should be Churchill's Hong Kong.

It has gems which will benefit our whole empire, especially cities that get early Forge.
It has 2 good food tiles making it the current best 4th city option for us.

Churchill will not be developing Hong Kong properly any time soon with only 1:food: tiles at the start. (Will he get the clams 1st or will we?)
With 1pop whip Granaries, it will become strong fast once we have it.

In the far future, it can grow past Size 10 to give us +3:commerce: trade routes in all our mainland cities.
Our poor coastal city would have to whip a Galley and lots of Swords to take it even with the Bomber helping.

Since we have 3 Super Cities, gathering all the :) resources like Gold seems strongest if we are surrounded by backwards AI with food poor cities.

****************
I'm not sure about the Great Lighthouse since all the Deity AI can race it for us. (Roosevelt)
But to get the Colossus quickly, we'd need bronze.
Maybe take Germany's bronze city.

Don't forget we have riverside Watermills available that give +1:food: and +1:hammers: currently thanks to State Property. (+1:hammers: with Replaceable Parts, +2:commerce: with Electricity)
That should be stronger than cottages once we have Kremlin.

That's good thinking.
Best Worker 1st I can see would be whip Worker, whip Granary, Chop Workboat, start farming Rice Turn 16.
