SGOTM6 - Xteam

BTW, Team Bede just posted a winning save. I haven't seen what their final culture total is yet. I'll check it out tonight. The question is did they hit 200K or were they able to finish under it.
Their victory screen shot shows 167K.

Just finished Offa's thread. What a great game they played! And they make it sound so easy too!

I will have to read Team Bede's thread as I can't imagine how they bore the maintenance costs? 167K, that sure is a lot of maintenance.

Well since gator posted in our thread I was reading this one. The maintenance was a big issue. The SPHQ was built in my turns and gpt went from 50 to 300 something. Communism really didn't help much except for the SPHQ. Somehow our rep was trashed in the middle of the game and we had trouble staying up in techs and then got left way behind. At the last save Maintenance costs for buildings was 1299 gpt!

Well done, Tubby and Team Bede. Sounds like you had a major learning exercise. How does the "SPHQ" help with gpt? Is that what I know as the Intelligence Agency?

No there is still an intel agency. The Secret Police HeadQuarters (SPHQ) acts as a 2nd FP only under communism. So really it helped with corruption costs in a 200+ city empire.

I'm excited about getting my wooden spoons in the mail!!!

Forgot about the Special Police HQ in C3C! I don't think we could have pulled off somehting like that in vanilla without going to a negaitve GPT. I never use it in C3C as I have never switched to a communist government before. :p I now understand why they added the SPHQ in C3C. :crazyeye:

They did more than provide a second forbidden palace to C3C - the corruption doesn't go to maximum everywhere even in a huge empire, either. Of course, it would have been much more complicated for us to decide when to put towns on wealth and when to have them self-build if all our towns hadn't been totally corrupt. :p

Not really.. if using ICS and so many small cities.. then most cities will produce 1 or 2 shields anyway (if everything is irrigated).
Do doing it the way we did it is still the best.. the exceptions would be capital, FP city and SSPHQ city that has close to 0 corruption.. and should be allowed to grow and do 1-2 turn builds of a high shield military unit for disbanding.

I think you just took a little too long to expand. Not much in it of course. Had you been playing C3C to 130K, and had you started the cultural push maybe 10 turns earlier I think Offa would have been in trouble. You can't compare the two games of course. But if we pretend that we can then it would have been very close. 3000cpt is the highest culture rate I have ever come across by some margin.

it is really hard to compare vanilla and c3c in this case.. specially with celts since they have militaristic trait in vanilla/ptw which is bad for poprushing (no 40 shield barracks), and agricultural is huge advantage for growth for the entire timeframe up till communism (four 4-turn settler factories at the starting area possible in c3c if the shields was available).
Even the difference in barbarian behavior mattered.. since in vanilla bargs will go straight for your units and cities, and in ptw and c3c (if AIPatrol=0) they will roam and only go for cities/units if they are on the nw/se axis... the early barb attack set us back a few turns.. 4 turn vs 10 turn forest chops had an inpact too, since 2 of the 4 foodsources at start was game-forests

On the other side Team Offa did one bad early move imo.. they should have buildt ToA instead of lighthouse.. free temples in every city far outweighs the inability to build universities.... this means 1 gpt less maintainance for every town, plus 30 less shields spent per town... and as it turned out they never needed education either...

In other words.. its hard to compare the c3c and classic games in this sgotm :)
(and those jason best dates should imo have been reversed...)

in addition I see the tech costs were 25% higher in the c3c games than in vanilla/ptw saves

Oh.. and there are higher than 3000cpt rates in HoF 100k games.. eg. my game there passed 3000cpt in 1000AD and ended up with 3112cpt in 1090AD (I stopped rushing in 1000AD, everything after that was just culture doublings).. I havent checked the numbers for the other fast 100k games, but assume they are similar

@leif - have you seen the Wonder splash for Leif's Voyage. The first one is great. It's in post #2.

Thanks Gator. That splash screen is really  Bjornlo has some really nice graphics.

Now, let's see if I can make an avatar out of it??

EDIT - Well, it came out a little dark. Where is Mistfit??

EDIT2 - Thanks to Bjornlo's good work and some time in a photo editor, looks better now, I think. What do you think Mistfit? :mischief:

Looks like MB will soon be posting the sign up for SGOTM07. Do we know who all is up for the next adventure?

I'm in, although AWD has me worried. A lot will depend on the map setup and who are neighbors are.

@Gator: I'm up for it. It's AWD. This is Xteam's home turf ... or Xteam's turn to make fools of themselves :mischief:

Anyone else for a massacre?

I have no idea whether we'll be oversubscribed, but I guess all Xteam players, past and present, have equal claim on team places. If we find we have too many candidates then "first come, first served" seems to me as good a way of resolving things as any, and I'll be delighted to have you aboard. M-B may have a point of view of course, plus this is some kind of a democracy ... sometimes  ... and that's just my 2¢.

Oh sure blame it on me :D

I will still be sitting on the sidelines for the next couple of SGOTM's I hope to possibly rejoin in the fall when my workload subsides. But you can count on me for SPAM (and the occasional intelligent comment (unlike this one))
