Rise of the Fallen Eagle, Prelude
Intro/Historical Background:
For years Libya has been in a state of tormol. The government had to juggle 3 ideas, socialism, democracy, mainstream Islam, and extremist, militant Islam, all of which appear in direct opposition of each other. Since the revolution in 1969 the official policy of Gaddafi, the supreme leader, has shifted between all of these, almost always enforced by a strong military arm. Since the United States War Against Terrorism and simply general global outrage against the nation, they have been torn apart. They now have two choices, adopt western ideas, or continue along traditionalist values. So far in this millennium they have chosen the former.
Foreign Policies Changes, Abstract Plan: Supreme Leader Muammar al-Gaddafi
Libya has always been a strong nation based on clear goals of socialism and Islamism. However we are also clearly based on that which Allah placed here long ago, oil. Petroleum is a crucial resource in this world, and is also a very profitable one, however it relies on foreign trade, rather than internal strength to be of value. As such it is imperative that we strengthen ties with foreign nations.
Since 1972, I have proposed the pan-Arab ideal. That all the nations of the Middle East and Northern Africa can combine to form a greater nation. Social, Economic, and Political problems can be solved by the entire nation together, leading to increased efficiency and new ideas. Today, I wish to re propose this idea. The path will be incremental, starting with a structure similar to that of the EU. It is important, however, that many nations be whole heartedly devoted, as back in 1974, little problems caused by Egypt and Syria caused the blocking of the whole plan.
Relations with the western nations and the Arab World have always been unstable. Some say a clash of civilizations, Christianity verse Islam, however we must recognize the similarities. Both of our societies believe that everyone has the ability to participate in the actions of the Government. Both of our societies believes that the we should help those most in need. Although historically the leadership of those nations have not exactly followed these rules according in modern standards, colonization and, most recently, war, I honestly believe that at the time they believed that they were doing what was best interest of the people in both nations. As such we must forgive misplaced deeds and hope that they learn from their mistakes, as the nations of Europe have done by taking great strides towards international unity. By Libya participating more in international organizations and signing treaty agreements with all those possible, we will restore our perception to others in the world.
Although I have made some allusions to the current war in Iraq between Jihadists and Americans before, I wish to take the issue on directly. Estimates of the loss of civilian life in the area are staggering, more than 100,000 by even the more conservative estimates. The Americans own intelligence agencies recognize that is has only strengthened the resolve of terrorist organizations. We believe that the United States actions have far reaching consequences to the entire world and they must change course drastically. If this means in institution of an Arab lead coalition, Libya would support and would be willing to take a leading role in such a coalition.
The Libyan government has always been a supporter of Palestine Liberation Organization. Israel, however, still needs to become less restrictive against Arabs in the region. We believe that Jewish people have all right to be in Israel, but their policies disenfranchising Muslims and Jews must stop. Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza can be unified, but not until the Arab people in the region can accept the Jewish peoples right to live and pray in Jerusalem, and the Jews must drop many of their zionist policies and allow Arabs and Muslims to live and work in Palestine in peace.
Iran has been a tricky place, half democratic and half extremist Muslim. As all other nations must do, they should accept and respect the Jewish peoples current occupation of Israel, but, more importantly, they must stop their aggressive quest for nuclear materials and submit to inspections by international authorities to prove once and for all that their motives are for energy alone and not weapons that have the potential to kill us all.
New Flag
Although something as simple as a flag might not seem like much. However it is an important physical thing that represents pride in ones country, and used to define the very character of a nation. Hence why the Libyan Government did not see the simplistic green flag continuing to represent the nation into the next millennium. As such, the voted in the proposed change based off a number of former flags.
The Green Bar on the side represents Islam and the unification that it brings with other nations, as well as the “green revolution” that Col. Gaddafi started, as well as the Green Book. The Crescent and Star represents Islam as well (offset closest to pole to maintain shape during high wind). The Five Triangle points represent the 5 pillars of Islam, and the black, red and white colors are the colors of African Unity.
