Shooting In Oregon

I'm not going to get into this kind of talk yet, but remind me to show you the articles about how gun sales are up yet violent crime is down later.

Reminding you.

Yes.
Over here in Europe we have guys running into malls in full combat armor with a bunch of steak knifes trying to kill people all the time.
Oh, and kids trying to kill as many class mates as possible with some steak knifes. That happens a lot too.
Oh, and soccer players killing their family and themselves with a steak knife.

Really, these things happen here all the time.
To the point where it's virtually impossible to watch the fracking news, cause it's so damn frequent.

:hmm: Must be some alternative Europe I've never heard of...

Ah, just one state. Kind of what I thought. Statistically speaking that doesn't really "prove" anything.

It has been mentioned elsewhere that of the total eligible population there are 30 % gun owners vs only 0.5 % illegal gun owners (i.e. criminals). Those 0.5 % are rarely (if ever) involved in these kind of incident. I think you can do the math here.

Its easy. People who are unworthy of living in a free country want to trade their liberty for security.

That also works the other way around. Many Americans seem quite willing to trade liberty for security on a very frequent basis.

Many certainly did so quite willingly after 9/11 when terrorist incidents committed by 19 people killed less than 0.001% of the population. Our liberties have been drastically restricted ever since, and now even every single email, google search, credit card purchase, and internet post is logged by the federal government.

It is now finally legal to carry a concealed weapon in every single state. The reason that most people want to do so is to feel more secure from largely non-existent crime that has been declining for decades now. It directly affects the liberty of the vast majority who don't carry concealed weapons, since even a harmless comment might be misinterpreted as a physical threat and directly cause their death. This is particularly true in "stand your ground" states.

About freaking time. Be careful or you let it slip.

I took little part in the Dommy-Bashing but you are such a bait I tell you! Reasonable enough to make one bother but still naive enough to have a field day.

You know that I of all people am deeply opposed to these as well, to the point where I put most of our resident liberals to shame:mischief:

Now this doesn't make sense. "Freeedom to feel secure?" Isn't that what you just condemned in the quote right above me?

If you would misinterpret a "Harmless comment" as excuse to kill someone, you'd be charged with murder...

How does "Stand your ground" help this? I thought it just meant you had no duty to retreat if someone threatened you with lethal violence... anywhere. How does it allow murder?

I am reasonable and willing to compromise on the issue of guns. If and when the State of North Carolina itself has established itself as a nuclear state with sufficient nuclear weapons to ensure that our people and Governor do not meet the same fate at the hands of those Federals as did Moammar Gadhafi, then and only then, I would be happy to consider more stringent STATE gun laws.

Till then the blood of the victims of random shooters is a small price to pay for liberty.

And please don't say that my concerns are overblown. Those people invaded us once already.

Putting things in perspective there were 2,437,163 deaths in the US in 2011. That doesn't count 1.2 million babies murdered in the womb. Gun deaths were 8,775 (in 2010).

If anything we ought to outlaw not guns but the medical profession aka POD (purveyors of death).

seriously, I live in New York, how could you betray me? I don't have a choice right now!

In all seriousness, obviously if a state wanted to secede they could ban guns, but otherwise, the Bill of Rights protects gun ownership so the Supreme Court should always rule against them.

Who the heck cares???

SCOTUS is just to make the Federal government look "Checked" when it isn't anyway. Ninety percent of the time that's their only real use.

I'll give them credit when they actually help make us more free, but that ain't often.

This will be out of the news in no time.I'm not trying to be an a hole, but he killed two people. Not really a shooting spree. The guy in Seal Beach killed like 10 people in the Hair Salon and even that fell out of the media after like 3 days...

Plus this idiot stole the gun he used so it isn't even about gun ownership or rights since he didn't even go though a back ground check. Also keep in mind the majority of these types of people are always pushed to the limit and explode.Hence why they don't have previous criminal activity. They don't do this for fun.

As for the Europe comment. You guys have cameras and cops on every corner.Plus this guy was stopped by the cops a minute after the shooting started.

Not sure if you got the irony.

Irony is about things that actually happen. I think you mean parody. ;)

1) The Bill of Rights is a series of amendments.

2) It doesn't "protect" gun ownership: it does explain why gun ownership was necessary when the 2nd Amendment was written.
