^ The Copper was 2 turns from being hooked up, Iron was 7 IIRC. Indeed Metal >>>> Chariots for mass barb infestation... Even on Quick. When debating a few posts up I didn't realize the Copper was nearly done.
40BC-320AD: The Ode for Tardy Military Moves on Quick
T74:
Nothing much to be done before [Enter]
T75:
Mao demands we stop buddy-buddying with Churchill, told him to stick it.
Biz gets Feudalism, if he didn't have it already.
Smartassian gets 5th Archer, wuippee. Currently looking at ~7-9 AggAxes or ~12-13 Chariots

Still, cheap price for a decent city.
Kinda wishing we had a decent road network instead of 1-tile river connections in between.
I'm not caring that much about red faces (outside Moscow) at this point, we can't whip because of past whippings + event, there's no improved tiles to work, and no good tiles to improve. The faces are easy to fix later when we actually benefit from it, right now it's just a waste of maintenance to play whack-a-mole with a bunch of Warriors to get to work stuff like river plains farms (which we don't have the worker force to make right now in the first place). Not to mention that interferes the biggest priority which is the barb cities.
T76:
Churchill offers HBR for CoL, which is intriguing in a way but I obviously refuse it nontheless. Hoping the buggers would tech the damn Mathematics this millenium.
St. Pete, Russia's granary, continues building more Workers (due to triple whip anger).
Bringing the Sheepworker back (should have done this last turn) as every city has 3+ health cap left.
Some barb activity in Smartassian:
T77:
...And our Chariot north falls to the Barbcher, putting Yakutsk in jeopardy (Copper is safe as barbs don't pillage next to a city AFAIK instead of attacking). Switched it to an Axe as a safeguard.
Biz gets Currency, apparently traded from Mao (?). He's leading tech on our continent currently.
Only now I noticed Gandhi doesn't want to talk to us. Sup with that, did we have OB and were forced to close?
Whipped Granary in Yaroslavl (Sugar town for those confused with the Ya-ya multitude).
T78:
TGL BIDL! I guess Rami is sitting in isolation somewhere with Marble and Stone...
Churchill cleans up the barb threat near Ya-Copper. Changed back to Library.
Also, ironically Gandhi gets Math this turn. No way to trade even if we wanted since he doesn't want to talk.
Our BPT, GPT and gold reserves line up in a funny way:
I realize I should have hooked up a second Ivory and traded it for Wine+2gpt from Mao already, whoops.
T79:
Currency is in. Biz gets Math, but it has monopoly whine! 1/4 of those he knows have it... and the bastard has a monopoly threshold of 70% (basically means everyone but us must know Math). No guarantee that Churchill is teching Math so I set tech for it (at 0%). We don't have anything to trade to Mao for Math if he gets it.
Another barb Archer kills another Chariot of ours. o/
T80:
Nice even whip for the Library in Ya-Copper.
I finally make the Ivory->Wine+4gpt trade with Mao. Need to watch when he gets Cons+HBR and possibly cancel then.
BTW, whipping military on Quick looks to be very very annoying and ineffective (haven't done any of that, just mentioning). If you wait out the penalty any whip will result in wasted overflow pretty much.
T81:
Churchill goes weehorn; as far as I can tell it's almost certainly Gandhi. If I understand border tiles correctly he's his only land target and he's Annoyed with him and Cautious with Mao and us (Churchill has 20% Annoyed nowarprob and 70% at Cautious). He also rescinds the HBR trade offer and I'm not sure why, to my understanding the only reason this can happen is if he just met more foreign Civs that do not have knowledge of it. That would mean pre-Optics access to more Civs than the 5 on this continent.
T82:
Now Churchill is the only one without Math, and the only one we could get it from. He
should get it very soon unless he's gunning for Machinery first. No worries though, we aren't chopping nearly anything anyway at this point (chopping sucks on Quick btw) and we can insta-spend our nest egg towards anything we want at any point.
Churchill is also the weakest of the bunch ATM, so I see no problem in trading Gold<->3gpt with him. That's slight WE hate from Mao but not very much.
Bismarck drops to Cautious due to border hate.
T83:
MoM BIDL... Thinking more and more about that isolated Rami
Churchill changed WE from Gandhi to Mao, which is much worse for us. We can't really afford to close borders with Mao if asked IMO. Gandhi oh Gandhi why won't you talk to me
EP was all over the place, put it all on Bismarck. He might be our first renaissance victim. Doesn't matter much either way.
T84:
Finally Churchill gets Math, opening it to us for trading. Got it and 40g with CoL. He wasn't even Mao's WE anymore due to no idea honestly. Would have got Masonry or Archery on top but didn't because he wasn't a WE. Research set to Civil Service.
Taoism found in Hamburg, hope he doesn't adopt that for extra culture pressure on Rostov.
MM musings:
- Some red faces around, nothing major though. Some might be inclined to say it might be better to have more MP and less effort toward barb cities (like in St. Pete), but I don't think so.
- Might want to overflowhip Ye-Fish to Lighthouse
- Novgorod is pretty all over the place, perhaps grow someways into red and whip a Library. Been the main unit pump thus far.
- Whipping starts to be back on the list of usable things after the event cooldown.
Musings:
Well, didn't even come close to capturing a barb city due to Quick speed. Almost nothing happened actually except for Churchill's weehorn. Pretty boring and maybe uninspired set, if anyone feels obliged to whine massively keep in mind I'm recently back from a week's worth of -20 Celsius wood-heated living, been chopping more forest IRL than in game
Biggest threat to our game plan IMO is a DoW from Bismarck or Mao, and neither of those frightens me at all, being Agg and everything.
bbp is up for maybe finally laying some smackdown on barbs!
