Little tidbit. As someone with a few Sikh-Canadian friends, consensus that the Romanization of the Brahmi and derivative scripts say, "Singh," an old Indo-Ayan word for, "lion," the surname - or in some cases, a middle name, taken by every male Sikh, by tradition, and also last name in certain unrelated, Bengali, Assami, Kashmiri, and other families, has as a, "h," at the end. I don't know what year that was formally hammered out by linguists.
