Straightforward question here. Setting aside the addiction factor, you have to want to quit if you're going to, and not everyone wants to. It's not a matter of willpower, it's a matter of apathy.

In the interest of full disclosure (I love that phrase), I've been an occasional smoker, but no longer am. I've stopped because I'm sick of paying for it.

I'm a non-smoker. I have no desire to start smoking.

I personally don't but I have a friend who does and he says he would quit except he finds it "fun".

I did stop, so I guess I'm not technically a smoker any more, but I still get the hankering, specially when I'm sad.

I quit smoking I think about 6 months ago. It was by no mean easy, the first few days I would feel like every single cell in my body was screaming for nicotine.

It sucked, I had to use all my will power to stop myself from getting some, every single minute.

Recently I did smoke 2 cigs when I was drunk.
Tried to smoke one the day after, while sober and it was the most disgusting tasting thing ever, I tried really hard, but couldn't do it, almost threw up in the process.

I smoke and I want to quit but haven't tried.

I don't have any motivation to quit it right now. Every problems I'm facing makes me craving for more cigarettes. :(

Any suggestions?

I quit smoking for 8 months, and then I was deployed to Iraq and lets just say getting shot at on a daily basis is not the best motivation to quit again.

If somehow they could make cigarettes not stink so bad (i think they smell good), not make my breath taste like azz, and cure cancer, I would keep smoking though.

I just enjoy it, that first cigarette in the morning is the best, and it's kind of a social habit. I chain smoke if we are in a big group and everytime someone lights up we all do.

Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it loads of times.

But more seriously, I've been quit for a few years except when I get together with my brother at christmas time.
I get the occasional urge and sometimes I give in, but I'm not a regular smoker. Part of the process of quitting is to realise that just because you have a fag, doesn't mean you've failed.

I have quit smoking successfully a number of times. But I am smoking again so ultimately I failed. I do want to quit but I also enjoy it enough that I dont really want to. I know I should, and I know I will have to. But for now I still smoke.

I smoke additive free tobacco and roll my own. I take a couple puffs, set it down and it goes out. Later I light it up again and repeat. I have tried 'taylor-mades' but they drive me to chain smoke. I don't know if its just because of the way they burn, or if it is due to the 600 chemical additives or the 4,000 chemical compounds that result from burning them. But I do know that smoking additive free handrolls is a very differant experiance from smoking chemical laden cigarettes.

For those that want to quit but dont really want to quit. Perhaps you should try additive free tobacco. At least then your reducing the damage somewhat. And some non-smokers have told me it smells much better. And if you roll your own then you will save a great deal of money. I wouldnt say that additive free tobacco is healthy, but it damn sure is healthier than smoking hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, etc American Spirit is the brand I smoke. It comes in talyor-mades or roll your own, and they make all the normal varieties from menthol to ultralights. Quit Smoking! But if you don't, at least cut down on the damage by smoking less and by smoking additive free tobacco.

Hrm. I smoke, I know it is bad for me. In the sense that "you know, I should stop inhaling these cancer sticks one of these days", yes I want to quit. In the sense that "man, I love cigarettes", no I do not want to quit.

I never understood why cigarettes stink so bad.
My dad smoked pipe for many years, and it smelled really good.
I figured theyre both tobacco, why does one smell really good, and the other like someone's ass?

Guess that answers it, additives.

I smoked for 15 years averaging 2 packs a day. I quit when I had oral surgery. It was realy easy.

I drink coffee; it used to be a vice, but I've stopped taking cream or sweetener in it. That way coffee has become a tool. I figure that drinking coffee is somewhat wasteful and might be unhealthy; if I ever deem it to not be desirable, then I have less stress in quiting, because I don't drink it the way I truly like it. Basically, I'm already exercising my willpower in this area.

The sad thing about smoking is that after the first months it tends to become less of a pleasure, and more of a habbit. I only feel something special if i smoke something stronger, eg a cigar, but not my regular cigarretes.
However it also helps me focus sometimes more on what i am thinking, although that too can be achieved without it.
