Thanks, and I sorta look at it like I'm not lecturing the crowd, I'm carrying a conversation with the crowd, every one of them, and as a whole. There's a huge difference...hence the more personal non academic tone. And yeah, the volunteer and the ear throwing are definately ice-breakers, that and I'm pretty sure NO ONE has ever seen a speaker throw their body parts into an audience such as this. I'm not even sure how they'll react, but we'll find out.I read it, and once again, I must congratulate you on a solid piece of work! While giving a very personal account of your own life, at the same time you very elegantly manage to show how your own experiences can apply in other situtions as well. Also, I think the opening part is very good, and should set the scene for a close-and-personal kind of relationship to the crowd, which is always a good thing, of course. Not only is it a very good way to catch their attention, but it also, in my experience, is a good way to "warm yourself up", if you're feeling nervous.
All in all, I must say that I regret that I can't be there to listen to it! Good luck, Tyler.
I've timed it, it's about right...it'll be a little faster I'm guessing once I'm on stage, but the time isn't a huge thing, just as long as I don't go over...going under is perfectly fine and may be well applauded by the audience. (don't want to bore them to death.)Looks OK to me. Only thing: have you timed yourself giving the speech in front of a couple of people?
And no, I haven't practiced in front of people, just by myself...don't really have any people to practice in front of something I may look into though...I'll have to ask.Two hours...not too long. I'm a fairly quick writer...although there's a few typos I missed and grammatical errors so I'd never turn it in for a college homework assignment or anything. How long did it take you to write that? It's huge!
Audience will be mostly students and or faculty members of the college and a few outside community members. No kids, no underage students which is why I'm still thinking about using that swearword but I'm not sure. The volunteer thing can be dangerous. Just a question, what kind of people will show up there? You don't want to be embarrassed by a stranger in a bad mood, but I suppose you know how to handle it?
No, and no...this is a one time thing... (well, maybe). And Weds.? Small celebrity status, then Oprah.I'll try and read it tomorrow.

I'll try and read it tomorrow.

but other than that I thought I did a good job.
