Like, it was cutting-edge to be black in the 1960s during the civil rights movement, or women during one of the few women's movements, or gay in the past couple of decades (particularly these days)... I'm trying to think of who in America is part of a cohesive, inclusive subculture that is not accepted by the mainstream, and hasn't gotten their own civil rights train out of the station.
