If it had an ID, or address in it, I would probably return it myself. If it didn't, I would most likely just hand it to the cops, or lost and found or whatever, and walk away. I think stealing something like that is rather juvenile.

Hmm...
I guess I'd take all the cash and mailthe rest (credit card, ID, drievrs license...) to the owner.
I'd certainly feel bad about it...

With ID: Turn it in to it's rightful owner with nothing missing.

Without ID: It's mine.

Calling me juvenile? :crazyeye:

How do we know if there's no id that it's not a gift from god?
Not really. Keeping it if there's no ID wouldn't be too bad I guess, I would probably still turn it in. Stealing a wallet you find on the ground, with ID in it definitely would be.

I would turn it to the police. If its not clamed within a certan amount of days (I forgot the guidelines, I think it was around 90 days but unsure) provided the wallet contains an ID. If its not clamed within a certan amount of days, I would use the information on the ID to return the wallet to the owner.

Well, Driver's licenses have adresses in them, so it makes them fairly easy to return.

I did this for a woman once and just mailed it back to her. She sent me a nice Christmas wreath that year as a thank you. Doing the right thing makes you feel good.

Take out the money, drive as fast as I can to the nearest gas station, and ask the nearest negro to buy me alcohol. :)

Set it on fire and alert the owner so they arrive at the scene, just a second too late. Yes!

With ID: Take the money then return the wallet, claiming that's the way I found it. Odds are he/she'll believe it, and be so happy to get back his/her credit cards and important documents I'll even get a reward. :D

Without ID: Take the money and throw away the wallet.

Yes, I'm a crook. :p

You are one evil "really cool guy".

But sometimes such things cross my mind too. Won't be long until I finally choose the dark side.

You won't really, but you'll think and laugh maybe.

Heh, tough call. I think I am going to have to agree with Turner on this one. Without ID, where exactly do you return the money to? The cops? I wouldnt even think about it unless the wallet was a suitcase and carried money in the 5 digit range.

With ID, I would like to think I would contact the owner and return it. My track record in doing this is 50-50. Once when I was younger I kept about $150 bucks in one I found. More recently, I phoned the people and actually held their wallet for them for a couple of days till they drove back to town to get it - and it had well over 1000 bucks in it and a few credit cards. So I am hoping that I redeemed myself overall.

i whold take the money, giftcards, things like that but not credit or atm cards cus thay can be tracked.

return it. how much money is in there anyway? I don't care that much about money, and if it were the other way around, I'd like it if people acutally return it, as well.

a few years back I found one 100.-- bill at a local summer festival. I gave it to the local cop in case anybody wants to pick it up. after a week he came to be, said nobody picked it up and gave me the bill. so I got the money and a clean conscience: win-win :D

Be careful though, sometimes the adress isnt current. I wouldn't want to send the wallet to the new occupants of a building.

If there is ID, I'd send it to the owner. If there is none, I'd give the money to charity and either keep the wallet (if its nice) or give it to someone (if its not).

I am the turn-it-in type. Happened twice to me, and the first taught me a lesson: the guy claimed that I had taken money out of the wallet. Maybe he was making it up, maybe someone else took the money, then dumped the wallet, but about 100 EUR was missing. And I almost got into trouble.

So the next time I found a wallet I placed it into the night cash deposit of a bank. :p
