Turn 10 Kingdom of Cyprus spawns. HHAs all around.

Turn 11 Nothing happens.

Turn 12 We research Mechanical Engineering, next Banking (11). Zaranj courthouse -> library, Qandahar Sunni Madrasah -> courhouse, Ghazna market -> walls. I queque Al-Jaziri's Workshop in Gwadar. Trade opium for sugar with the Fatimids.

Notes & suggestions

-Mongols will spawn soon enough.
-We need to sabotage Wasit's production (Mevlana's Tomb) on the next turn, although I think we might need to turn up the espionage slider to complete it.
-After the Great Artist spawns in Marv, we should focus on production that we'll beat Abbasids for the M's Tomb.

Sorry to hear that Science Rules. Downloading now.

EDIT: Graphics card has bit the dust and needs to be replaced. I can't launch CivIV at the moment. Will have to skip/postpone my turn for now.

Seems like the Gujarats did us a favor and built the shrine *that no person can spell* :p, I guess you overlooked it.

Actually I noticed that, but I remebered that our goal was to control the Holy Cities, but indeed it was the Shrines.

Too bad Science Rules is out.

Blizzrd, if you can play your set during the next couple days, imo we can wait.

For discussion:
The last two unique Great People (General and Artist) are currently enroute to Mecca.
Sunni is currently at 41% out of 50% required for the URV.
Do we hold off from settling the Great General in Mecca so as to not win the URV before finishing the other SG goals? It will take quite some time to finish some of those goals.

Well kind of have to hold it off, unless we want to lose. Naturally it will be the GG.

Since the URV is pretty much finished, lets remind ourselves of the other goals:

Goals:
1. Win by Sunni Unique Religious Victory (URV). - Basically done
2. Complete 2/3 UHVs - Done
3. Become Shahanshah, Sharif of Hejaz and the Commander of the Faithful - 2/3 missing
4. Settle all Sunni Relics in Mecca - 0/7 (?) currently in Mecca, 2/7 in control
5. Convert all surviving nations to Sunni - Needs lots of work
6. Control all Religious Shrines - 1/4

Short term goal is to survive the Mongols, which I am sure we will. Should the next goal be to send a large expedition to capture Constantinople for goal 6 and stability? Thereafter, we need to convert Caucasus, the Levant (hope for no Kingdom of Cyprus respawn) and India.

How do the relics work, if we open the trade screen with a sunni civ controlling a sunni relic, do we see it?

I will play later tonight.

After the initial wave of Mongols has been repulsed, we should send a big enough convoyof HHAs, with siege, towards Mesopotamia, since the Abbasids are truly quite strong and we should strike just after the mongol wave hits them. I suspect that the mongols won't capture many cities due to their marksmen and castles. However, we should remember to keep HHAs around Kerman, Zaranj and Herat where some mongols will spawn later.

We don't see relics, if they're settled by an islam civ. We need espionage for those.

Kingdom of Cyprus already respawned some time ago. It will be a difficult task to convert them to Sunni.

Turn 1 1216: We discover banking, companies next. Marv finishes Mevlana's Tomb! Courthouse next. Zaranj slave market -> university. Herat HHA -> HHA. Ghazna stable -> HHA. Several HHA and catapults are not promoted. I don't really now why, so I promoted, apologies if I spoiled a strategy. We spread Sunni Islam in Tharri.

TUrn 2 1217: Quetta missionary -> missionary. "A massive barbarian uprising is occurring. The Mongol invasion of Kwharezmia has begun"! Great general unloaded in Mecca, stays asleep.

Turn 3 1219: Samarkand HHA -> HHA. Quetta missionary -> missionary. We kill Subotai and a bunch of Mongols. The Blessed Mantle starts its journey towards Mecca. More Sunni spread in the Sindh lands.
Spoiler :

Turn 4 1220: Mazar HHA -> HHA. Gwadar finishes Ibn Battuta's Embassy, so now we won't risk losing contact anymore. Market is next. Kerman and Ghazna HHA -> HHA. More Mongols killed. We don't win every fight, but most of them.

Turn 5 1222: Our lonely hills-promoted marksman up in the north takes out a stack by himself.
Spoiler :
1222Marksman.png

Herat HHA -> Trebuchet. Mecca Royal Mint -> bank. Qandahar library -> unviersity. Samarkand builds HHA, Quetta missionaries. We gain a great General in Gwadar. Is Gwadar exposed in any way? I sent two HHA there, just to be sure. Where to put the Great General? He stands still in Gwadar for the time being, since there are so many Mongols moving around.

Turn 6 1223: Cartography sold to Abbasids for Alchemy and 160 gold. Mazar starts building the Grand Bazaar (14 turns, it has good trade routes). More Mongols arrive in the north and in the Ghorid lands. Third time's a charm for spreading Sunni in Uch.
Spoiler :
1223moremongols.png

Turn 7 1225: The Kwarezhmid city of Bukhara falls to the Mongols. Do we want to conquer it or not? I leave it unconquered for the time being. Marv starts a stable. Kerman HHA -> trebuchet. No relic settled in Wasit. Great artist settled in Mecca.

Turn 8 1226: Rüm collapses. Gwadar market -> butchery. Try to get Chayhan to open border by gifting medicine, no luck. HHAs built allover the place. Ghorid city of Peshwar taken by Mongols. Bagdhad has the sacred seal and the sword of Ali (at least second one is a shia relic, right?). The beard of Mohammed is in Samarra.

Turn 9 1228: Herat treb -> treb. Gwadar butchery -> pottery workshop. Ghazna starts university.

Turn 10 1229: We discover companies. Optics next. Gwadar pottery -> slave market. Kerman trebs. University in Quetta. We gain a merchant in Mazar for discovering companies. He is sent to Gwadar for transport to the Royal Mint in Mecca, together with two HHA.

Turn 11 1231: Marv stable -> Sufi. Zaranj university -> barracks. A royal saint is born in Marv. No relics in Ahvaz.

Turn 12 1232: A few Mongols are killed, but the main thrust of their attack is in Persia now. No relic in Basrah. Silk deal with Oman upgraded to 3 gpt.

To discuss:
Should we set espionage to another civ to find out about relics?
Some missionaries are close to the Indian civs, but I have been unable to open borders.
The Mongol attacks are petering out. We should soon send the expedition to Abbasids.
Do we really need the great prophet? As far as I can see, the Dwarakadeesh (hindu), Iman Ali Mosque, Kaaba, Hagia Sophia and Holy Sepulchre are all built.
Which cities should we conquer and keep?
We are currently at 369 gold, -186 gpt, so research will have to be lowered to 70%.
Kingdom of Cyprus exist, so eventually we have to build a fleet to get there.

Several HHA and catapults are not promoted. I don't really now why, so I promoted, apologies if I spoiled a strategy. We spread Sunni Islam in Tharri.

The catapults don't really matter, although the reason not to promote them was that I wasn't sure whether we would need to use them against mongols. If not used, we could later promote them to city raider, I trust that you promoted them to collateral.

The HHAs weren't mainly promoted, because they can always be promoted before attacking the spawned mongols. However, if a mongol survives the initial attack of one HHA, and another unpromoted HHA can finish it off with +95% odds, there is no point promoting it before attacking, since it might lose some health during the battle, but the promotions after the battle will cure most of the damage. Also promoting all our HHAs to +25% against HAs is kind of a waste.

I promoted the catapults to city raider and sent them towards Kerman for the assault on Abbasids. For the HHAs I made a mix, some anti Mongol, but most 3xcombat.

Well we most likely would saved a few more HHAs by using obsoleted catapults against the mongols, but in the end that doesn't make that much of difference. But it doesn't hurt to ask either.
