Some puppets are now on default focus instead of gold focus since 332

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or intentional, but I noticed that now some puppets are no longer on gold focus, but default instead.

Is this a bug, a screw up from the devs, or a feature that I missed in the patch notes?

Thanks.

probably just something that wasn't in the patch notes, since tons of people complained about the gold focus

Really? Lots of people complained about swimming in gold? Hmm, an odd complaint imo.

The only time gold focus is annoying is when the puppet stagnates at 1 pop because it works a gold tile that also has no food.

This city was at 6 pop and had enough excess food to at least pick up another 2-4gpt without starving.

Not sure why people would want more unhappiness and less gpt from puppets who want to grow more instead of give more cash..?

Can anybody else confirm this is a feature please?

A puppeted city has the wooden crossed planks with strings that real puppeteers use to control their dolls. Like in the screenshot.

An annexed city uses the red chains (as in, occupied). If this city was annexed, it would be possible to buy tiles - which as you can see, isn't.

The city in the picture you attached is not a puppet, is a annexed city.
No, it is a puppet. I can provide the savegame if you like.

If I remember correctly, you can not choose production order for puppet cities, and it has a red chain under the name of the cinty.
There's no red chain. It's the cross sticks indicating a puppet. You can't set production and you can't buy tiles and, also, I puppeted it when I took it, lol. I've got several other puppets as well. Some of them are on gold focus, some on default.

So, is default back in or is this just a bug?
Yeah, this is what I want to know.

Can anybody confirm this is a bug/dev error/feature as this will effect the game in the following ways:

1. Less gold income from puppets.
2. Bigger puppet populations and therefore more unhappiness.
3. Due to 1 and 2, less reason to puppet and more to raze.

It may be that this is deliberate, in order to weaken massive puppet empires, but I don't recall anything about it in the patch notes and as a player who puppets a lot as part of my strategy this will make a difference, so I'd like to know for sure if this is deliberate or not.

Can anybody enlighten me please?

Pre-Patch, I've seen a puppet occasionally go from gold to default focus. I believe starvation was a cause; I don't recall if it reverted to gold focus after the food situation was resolved.

gold ? honestly there is more than enough gold and I don't build any trading posts. In my latest game I was also doomed of not having any rivers. And I have more than enough gold. I rely on production and +gold can't compete with hammers or food. Anyway I would be glad, if the standard focus "bug" would also be in my game - I just can't do that much with gold. But now it isn't that bad anymore to annex cities than puppet them.
- enough gold for unit upgrades : check
- enough gold for influence all maritime cities : check
- too much gold and buying buildings, influencing all cs : check.

Wow. I can always do more with gold.

- Puppets for food, lux, units, culture, science, diplo win. Check.
- Buy an aggressive AI that borders me into a war with another AI. Check.
- Buy Lux/strat res from a distant AI. Check.
- Rush buy units to defend an area. Check.
- Buy tiles out to a Lux/strat res I need. Check.
- Keep a reserve of gold to deter AIs from attacking. Check.
- Research agreements. Check.
- Rush buy a library in my 2nd/3rd city in order to build the NC in my cap. Check.
- Rush buy walls in a city under threat from a back stab attack. Check.

Seriously, if anything, gold is at the route of success, for my games anyway. I can always use more gold, but I can often forgo more population eating into my happiness.

Ah, well that would make sense, but the city I posted a screenshot of could easily pick up another 2 to 4 gold without starvation, but for some reason persists on default focus anyway.

I have to say I've never seen a puppet in 275 be on anything other than gold focus. I've even seen them stagnate at 1 pop due to gold focus, until they build themselves a granary, but maybe I didn't pay enough attention.

Still, I don't see why a puppet should be on default, when it doesn't need to be. I want more gold from puppets, not population to eat into my happiness.
