Some Russian Units

Yes well, while I may or may not be able to attach a donkey, I'm almost completely sure that a cart is out of the question until I learn animations.
I said I would see if I can make a pack donkey, I did not make any promises. I may be able to rig one up by ignoring or softening some of the neck bones on the camel as that part of the animations are the most camelish, but animated cart wheels + great merchant animations are out of the question.
Someone like embryodead may be able to combine those animations, but you would have to request it from him. Then I would be able to make the model for it.

Don't know if it helps or not, but actually I use some kind of a pack horse for the hungarians (in the settler group) in RFCE

AFAIK avain modified it slightly, but it's from the mongol settler camp in the genghis khan scenario
So the animations will probably fit for a donkey too

Looks this way ingame:

Oh yeah, the oxcart animations. I forgot about those.
Actually, I just realized that another way to make the unit would be to make the donkey cart and donkeys, give them the oxcart animations and attach it to the great merchant minus camel via the formations xml thingy. The modder could position them nicely together and no one would be able to tell the difference. At least I think, I have not really fooled around with the formations xml for awhile now.

@AbsintheRed
Thanks! But as it is now, I may as well make a whole cart and be done with it. I'll take a look at it for the packages though, since I'll need to fill the cart.

No prob
If you only need the packages from the horse, maybe it's easier if you mess up with the original files instead.

It's taken me weeks to decide which units to use for Russia! They're all so awesome.

Hopefully a small request: all my Russian units look utterly fantastic now except for the grenadier; the best I could find was a green and red colour If you get some time (and are not too offended by the gross historical inaccuracy) do you think you could make a grenadier version of your Black Don Cossack?

Seconded. :goodjob:

The green-red guy is historically accurate for the era grenadiers were actually used in Russia. Please note that Bakuel's packs end at XVII century; from XVIII century onwards using them for Russia is totally anachronistic. I already saw people out there using streltsy as riflemen for Russia; this would be 100% anachronistic, as they disappeared completely during the reign of Peter the Great, and later on Russia used more European-looking uniforms. Grenadiers as an arm of service were introduced in Russia by Peter the Great, and no pre-Petrine grenadiers are historically accurate. Bakuel's packs don't cover XVIII century and later Russia.

These are accurate pics for Russian grenadiers (obviously styles change through the ages; year when uniform was introduced given):

Do you suppose some of these units could be used for Medieval Georgian or even Armenian units? (but especially for the former?)

Thanks

Absolutely amazing units as always and in awe of your skills.

I have recently learnt how to use nifskope and gimp and was wondering if it was ok for me to put on the database units of yours that i have nifskoped/altered and skinned?

Bakuel, you do not have plans to continue the Polish units?
It is a lot of Russian units. Cossacks too are. Poles and Lithuanians in medieval and renaissance do not suffice :(

I would appreciate that too
Both sets would be great for RFCE

Before Bakuel disappeared a year ago, IIRC he said that he will work on smaller European nations next (IE: not in vanilla BtS)
I was hoping for Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and maybe a couple additional Hungarian units to his earlier set

To update the unit list,

Major Projects,
Russia,
India,
China,
The Sahel,

Smaller Projects,
Basic India Pack,
Bulgars,
Germany,
Netherlands,
Poland,
Japan,
Khmer,
Karakhitan/Liao

Once again, things change and I may add or move civs around. So yeah, best not to make any long term plans on this list.

Since then, Russia is of course ready
India is also more or less complete, with Walter Hawkwood releasing the sets here
I'm still optimistic about his return. Hope never dies :)
