Sons of Mars II

I'll continue advancing my technology, seeing as Austria has been reduced to a mere slideshow in this game.

Are there any unaffiliated NPCs remaining?

As with previous games, my intent was not realised, so, no, alliance blocs have taken over. And it will get worse with time as states get more contacts, allowing more massive NPC clubs.

We're already in the late game phase and it's not even turn 10!

indeed. you can try to have a massive NPC-human war. just for laughs.

Are my techs just going up by one? Since I have pooled practically enough to go up to two or spill over into the next bracket.

111 in Army (Don't just go up by one, keep pooling into the next bracket, etc.)
50 in Econ
50 in Civic
Raise three navies and have them set sail to Hawaii
Raise ten armies and have them set ready in the fleet route to Hawaii
Bank the rest in the vault

Congrats to S. Africa for becoming the first country to field an air force! The SAAF can move 10 squares per turn! It also is by far the most well-trained army on Earth at tech 20, with closest competitors Olaf and Enerjak being 16.

The Fall of IOTO

While the Olafian Republic strikes down Hyderabad, the Ottomans declare war upon the Arabs.

Hyderabad beefs up its forces, while Olaf storms through with well-trained armies.

Rolls are 1-15, and Olaf enjoys +8!

Olaf loses one army but overruns the subcontinent.

Hyderabad holds strong with three last provinces, so Olaf's navies do the work.

15 1

8 2

14 8

Hyderabad is destroyed.

Olaf stands at 58 provinces, but the fun has just begun. He now inherits half of Hyderabad's tech values...

12 Civics, 56 Army, 79 Econ.

It is assumed that Olaf finishes off each tech, bringing him to Army 16, Civics 13, and Econ 10. Olaf is left with 68 gold in his vault. In total, Olaf's trade value has surged 39 gold.

i feel so inadequate here.
You're not the only one. I'm starting to feel that the next IOT should be devoid of going through technologies. With gold only being useful in a standing armed forces.

Even now, I am starting to form my own doctrine to become a power house in the region.

No worries. Any province support feature in upcoming games by me will be revamped... I need to make it VERY costly to use hard power, rather than soft power, to dominate the world, as it would be in reality.

i also need to pick a nation with more room of expansion.

Army 7 (35)
Army 8 (40)
Army 9 (45)
11 Land Troops (55)

I've placed the troops on the map below, in Australia. Also, I have a question on the map:

The Pan-Slavic Union accepts the Olafic alliance proposal and Japan's earlier trade agreement.

We would also like to ask the Kalmar Union, how much do you want for a single province in Asia?

@ Yoshi:

Auralia is part of the Oriental Protection and Economic Cooperation (OPEC), made up of Japan, Srivijaya, Auralia, and Java!

@ Prospo:

Kalmar's territories in the region are too strategic to release.

(Hint hint - perhaps it's time you march on Kazakh since everyone's devouring whoever's next to 'em :p)

The Arabs raise 9 armies. The Echidnas have +4 on the Arabs. Rolls are between 1-15.

With the table set, the Ottomans order the Echidnas to dig in first and destroy all surplus armies the Arabs have; this will enable the Turks to take the rest of the provinces themselves.

1 1
5 1

12 10
9 9

8 3

The Arabs lose 5 armies.

10 3
13 7

14 5
12 10

The Echidnas take one province.

2 11
2 5

The Echidnas do as they are told, and now, all Arab provinces have only one protector. The Turks move in.

The Turks tech up to Army 10 with the help of a colleague, who owes them from way back.

The Arabs get a +2 advantage on a battlefield where rolls are between 1 and 10.

9 2

4 5
10 8

The Turks do capture one province, but lose two armies in the process.

10 9
9 9
6 3
6 2
3 8

2 more provinces, but 3 armies lost.

The Sultan cooks up a plan to salvage the war of Ottoman greatness, and has the Echidnas secretly get in defense position...

The Arabs walk into a trap, where superior echidna troops, and not pitiful Turkish ones, are defending the conquered lands!

The assault on Dubai is called off!

3 9
3 7
5 8
7 1

The Arabs destroy the Echidna forces at Mecca, but they have lost 8 units! The Turks keep the city safe. Arabia quickly realises they were played and move troops into position...

Now the Sultan secures a loan from their special friend... They take out 30 gold, and promise to repay 33. 6 armies are raised...

9 1

And 6 provinces are soon seized.

Madagascar, meanwhile, has chosen to dishonor the alliance in the wake of such a massive force rolling in.

The Turks have improved their base income by 20 gold, whereas the Echidnas have done so by 3 gold.

The Turks deliberately keep the Echidna armies back, so they can take them all for themselves come next turn...

The Pan-Slavic Union would like to congratulate their ally on their sucessful conquests.

I would also advise either having more provinces or less massive NPCs. Half this game has been about the NPCs, it feels.

TFox, how does Enerjak have the same trade $ as me? We have the same number of agreements, with almost the exact same nations. However, the income difference between E-Brazil and Japan trade-wise shouldn't make up for the 25% Bonus from my traits.

Both of you are Diplomatic... :p

And there was only 3 gold difference between the total trade value, so logically, very narrow differences...

American War

Enerjak, Kalmar, Florida vs. Canada, Maya, Gran Colombia

Called the Enerjak War of Aggression by those on the defense, War of Floridian Resurgence in Florida, and War of Glory in Brazil and Kalmar, the war continues to rack up casualties.

Kalmar and Canada go at it first. Kalmar gets +2 to its rolls.

Kalmar orders its troops to stand down and let the Canadians attack first...

2 provinces are retaken, but 3 armies are lost.

Ouch. 1-4.

Canada's last 5 armies are sent on the attack.

4 1
5 2

8 2

Much better. 3-1!

However, Canada is worn down and Kalmar maintains a solid base on their shores.

10 3

3 provinces soon fall.

4 8

Kalmar uses up its last army, but soon raises a ton more with its cash.

6 10
9 3
3 5
8 5

2-2.

With that, Kalmar raises 2 final armies and sends them against the last Canadian forces.

1 1

9 10

Canada is left with no troops but 1 province, guarded by the Mayans.

With that, Florida takes the helm, and orders all troops against the last Canadian province.

Florida has +1 to all rolls.

7 1

With the Mayan force vaporised, Canada as a whole disintegrates, and is absorbed into the Anglican, CIS, Scandinavian and Floridian Empires.

24 provinces make up the former Canadian state.

1/24 - CIS
3/24 - United Empire
7/24 - Florida
13/24 - Kalmar

5 Civics tech
75 Econ tech
297 Army Tech

Civics is split evenly except for the odd point, which goes to Kalmar.

Econ goes 4 to CIS, 10 to UE, 22 to Florida, 39 to Kalmar.

Army goes 13 to CIS, 38 to UE, 89 to Florida, 157 to Kalmar.

---

Will the Maya and Gran Colombia fare any better?!

To keep the Mayans in their place, the Floridians are wise enough to construct a fleet.

Florida enjoys +2 to all rolls.

While the Mayans create a border guard of 4 troops, Florida launches 6 troops against the Mayan coastline.

9 8
3 3
2 10
8 8
4 2
5 3

Despite the amphibious advantage, Florida takes 4 provinces.

With that, the Mayans launch a counterattack.

3 8
1 10
9 6
6 9

The Battle of Louisiana is a disaster for the Mayans.

4 more armies go against the scattered Floridian Central American positions.

1 8
3 8
8 3
2 1

While they win one battle, they lose 3 troops.

Florida receives 5 gold from Kalmar, and uses its last 2 armies in an offensive...

2 7
1 3

Both are obliterated!

Now, only the Colombian front remains...

Spain better make some allies.... :p
