The Philadelphia Eagles have reached agreement on a blockbuster intra-division trade that will send perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, according to multiple sources close to the situation.
The two sides still must finalize language, but McNabb is now headed to Washington. Sources said the deal involved the Redskins' second-round pick in the 2010 draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year, depending on several factors.

The move means the Redskins now have a new starting quarterback and the Eagles have a new one as well in Kevin Kolb. Michael Vick is now in line as the team's backup.

Earlier, sources said McNabb's contract, which has one year and $11.2 million left on it, scared off several other teams. McNabb is due a $6.2 million roster bonus on May 5 and is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2010 season.

At the league meetings, head coach Andy Reid said the Eagles were listening to offers for all three quarterbacks, including 11-year veteran McNabb, who quickly said on his Web site that he wanted a quick resolution to the trade conversations.

Maybe this will be better for everyone involved. :dunno:

Well, there goes two division rivals :D

I'm confused. This is definitely an upgrade over Campbell. But what does this do in the long run for the team?

I would imagine that depends whether or not Washington can better tailor their offense to McNabb than the Eagles did.

Since when has Snyder cared about the long term?

Snyder has been hands-off by all accounts. This is the work of Bruce Allen.

Then maybe once you are hired in any capacity for the Redskins organization, your IQ drops 50 points?

For McNabb though, this is much better than going to Oakland. That's about the only nice thing I can say about all of this.

Replacing a very talented albeit inconsistent QB with Kolb? They'd better know something we don't or they're screwed.

Kolb will be fine, he can throw that rock! ;)

How many more years can McNabb throw the ball?

I'd heard the Eagles did it to avoid paying McNabb extra, in the event there's a strike/he's injured this year.

I think he is 33. Elway was like 35 when Shanahan took over for Denver. ;)

I used to feel McNabb was underrated, as I felt he did more to getting his team to the playoffs over the overhyped overrated Michael Vick. And I even excused him bombing (and getting sick) in the superbowl. I always figured the experience will make him better, and he'll get back and win a superbowl. It doesn't look like that's going to happen. He just doesn't have what it takes to win the big games. He's a solid QB who can get a team to the playoffs (barring any major injuries to the rest of the team), that's about it.

Elway had two of the most talented teams of all time surrounding him. McNabb has the Redskins.

Yet he was accused of not being able to win the big game... until Shanahan, but I do see what you mean.

That may well be. Even so, it sure smells of Snyder.
