Could we have a Saffron Triangle for Serial Threads?

No, no, my idea for Saffron Triangles for Serial Threads like the Random RANTS/Raves, Cooking threads, Ask A… etc. etc.

Agrees that serial threads could use a special icon. Maybe someone should start a poll.

Spoiler :
If there was a specific icon for serial threads, there'd be no  or :) or :culture:, which seem to work well...

Oh! It's the same kind of icon. Never mind that then.

But suppose somebody starts a serial thread that has nothing to do with music, being happy, or angry? Like... the "What Book are You Reading Now?" Or the one about juxtaposed thread titles?

How about a box of cereal? I see three slots open on the lowest line...

I think I like the idea of serial thread getting a special icon. It's useful to be able to sift through so that you can get to the threads you want (or not) faster.

Do not want. Serial threads need their regular icons. They're distinct enough already.

What is the advantage to such a system?

Easy identification nothing more.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have very little difficulty finding them as it is.

They'd lose the existing icons that are used for easy identification though... (e.g. :) and )

The proposal is a uniform identification system. The icons you identified may be used for other threads too.

True, but the existing icons have the benefit of matching the topic of the thread in question. The raves thread has a :), the rants thread has a . You can differentiate between the two, and there is rarely another thread that uses those icons. When there is, there's only a couple to differentiate between, and the thread title lets you do that pretty easily. With a uniform icon for all serial threads, you'd have to read the titles to differentiate between rants and raves all the time, not just if another thread with the :) or  icon existed.

A fair point. Just that the main thrust of this proposal is to have a single shape/colour that makes it super-easy to identify.

Blue square? Oh, that's a serial thread.

vs.

It has an icon. What icon is it? Oh, this icon is one of the icons used by serial threads. Is it the serial thread? Yep.

You have to understand, those microseconds and few brain cells should not be used if we don't have to!!

Red Diamond threads are substantially different from regular threads. They NEED to be clearly distinguished. Serial threads are just long-lived. They're not special. There's no need to dress them up and pretend that they are special.

It is because they are not special that they need to be demoted to a single identifier, instead of having icon freedom! :mwaha:

Why? Non-Serial Threads have Icon freedom. Serial Threads don't need their own icon, things like the :) and  work fine.

I has serial identification :)

What if it's a serial thread that causes or reflects other emotions such as sorrow or apathy? Yes, I know we have  and :dunno: but that makes the total number of emoticons necessary to identify serial threads at least 5.

Simplicity is best. How about going with a Cheerio?

Of course they're special. A great many posts have been expended on arguing about them over the past couple of years. Would we do that if they were not special?

Agree...

...also, special icons for everything will get annoying...

This coincides precisely with what I was going to say. When looking for serial threads, I just look for roman numerals, or else for the inordinately large thread titles.

Why? It would make identification of thread types easier.

Let's have the vote, then.

Give me icon freedom or give me death.

It's a non-issue in my view. Serial threads have the identifier of a serial number, serial threads have been around for a long time so we all know which ones they are.

It makes as much sense as having a special icon for "Ask a ..." threads.

It's completely unnecessary. The only issue I ever have with serial thread identification is the rare occasion when I have multiple tabs open at once and accidentally post in the wrong one.

Wow, I asked an innocent question for once in my forum life and it snowballs into this… I'm going up in the world.

Today, the serial threads, and tomorrow, the WHOLE OT! MWAHAHAHAHA!

Anyway, serial threads don't need a special icon for all serial threads.

Beware the law of unintended consequences. :)

Here is your answer!

Just look at the title of the thread.. :P it's easy enough to distinguish them then.

I generally think numbering the thread is a big enough give away that it is part of a series, but I don't really care. CFC could completely get rid of the option for icons on threads and I wouldn't even care.

A thousand times no. It should be left to the person who created the thread. /They are iconic enough!

I suppose this could be used for the icon:

But smaller.
