Spl02: Noob-Party

The ']' is missing from the above post, so I typed in the correct url to the save >>> here <<<.

EDIT: Some comments after seeing the save:

- We should probably try to spread christianity to Joao and try to trigger some useful AP votes.
- Joao will be untouchable for a long time ... let's hope we can overtake him by our sheer size.

Morred is UP, I believe.

Roster:
1. Splime
2. Quotey - Just played
3. GreyFox - Up
4. Admiral Kutzov - On deck
5. TheLastOne36
6. Morred
7. dawn

nope, Morred says he is going to play after the next person before Splime. Then Splime skipped, so quotey played, thus Morred is UP. I am on deck (that is if Morred plays and report within the next 24hrs ... else I may not be able to play before my Hiatus, then I would have to be skipped until further notice).

So......
Roster:
1. Splime - low on time
2. Quotey - Just played
3. GreyFox - On Deck, depending on Morred's schedule
4. Admiral Kutzov - checking the roster between meals
5. TheLastOne36 - waiting in the wing
6. Morred - Up, waiting for "got it" in 24 hours
7. dawn - tired and confused from a 14 hour drive

Well, Morred obviously don't want to let me play one last turnset before I go where no man has gone before, so guys, I will leave you all in the hands of the Admiral to keep the newbie party going.

I'll be back in March (I hope, will post something here when I do).

Now, some rant. Sorry if I sounded too hash, but this is not the appropriate etiquette in a succession game, (or in any situation in life for that matter). When you promise to do something within certain timespan, keep your promise. If something happens that would not allow you to keep it, it is only appropriate for you to inform whom you promised within the timespan. That is basic courtesy.

Have a safe journey GreyFox.

Roster:
1. Splime -
2. Quotey - Played last
3. GreyFox - Where no man has gone before (until March)
4. Admiral Kutzov - Up
5. TheLastOne36 - On Deck
6. Morred - skipped
7. dawn -

I pick up the save and have some thoughts, in no particular order.

Religious Thoughts:
We own Confused and have the shrine, yet we're not spreading it. Joao and Charley have opened their borders to us and are running organized religion. We need to spread Confused. We own Christianity, do not have the shrine and we're losing AP elections cause we haven't spread it. Charley is the only other (voting) member. We should reconfigure the builds for a religious economy.

Espionage Thoughts:
We're behind in techs and spreading our EPs all over the board. In doing that we'll never get enough to steal anything. I decide to go on a binge and weight all the EPs to Joao with the thought of stealing from him in the future.

Production Thoughts:
Too soon for all the windmills. They shoulda been mines and then reconfigured for windmills later when our techs and civics catch up.

Expansion Thoughts:
I see signs marking suggested city sites. We don't need to be building settlers to further drain the economy at this time.

Scientific Thoughts:
We have a decent amount of money. I go hog wild and raise research to 80% (-158g).

And now the significant events...

Turn 358 - PP finishes. Start RP

Turn 360 - Put on merchant hat. Sell cow, bananas, fish, rice to Joao for 12 gpt. Switch civics to rep (science and happy gas boost), caste (we're not whipping anyway and I want to start generating some great peeps), mercantilism (want the free specialist). 3 turns of anarchy.

Turn 361 - Charley demands we cancel deals with Pacal. Since we have nothing but open borders, okay.

turn 367 - Charley cancels furs for rice. Renegotiate, get furs + 10gpt for copper.

Turn 371 - meet Mansu. Get 15gpt for cow, rice, banana, wheat. AP vote (we'll win this easy, I've been spreading Christianity). Start the NE in Aksum (GP factory, sorta). We own the AP (78 of 88 votes)

turn 373 - Dye and 6gpt from Mansu for rice, copper, cows, banana, horse. Go :smoke: more Mansu.

Random Future Thoughts:
I went 20 to get some stuff done. Notice 2 cities are building exclusively knights; don't change that unless you have a really good reason. NO MORE BUILT CITIES! Spread as much Confused to Joao and Charley as you can; it only helps our bottom line. Only give them one Christian city each. If possible spread one christian city each to Pacal, Bull and Mansu.

Recommended tech path. finish Rifling ->MT->steam->AL. We really need the infantry and steam should give us something to trade.

The cities are set to max GP points while still growing at a very slow pace. IIRC, there's one exception, but I don't remember what it was. Here's an example.

Steal techs from Joao ASAP. There are some spies building. In the meantime, keep him happy at all costs.

I think that we're at a stage where we need a strategy, possibly starting with desired victory condition and then working backwards from there. We've got ourselves established but we're still a long way from being dominant.
- orignally posted by pigswill. I strongly agree.

Roster:
1. Splime -
2. Quotey -
3. GreyFox - Where no man has gone before (until March) :salute:
4. Admiral Kutzov - just played, physically ill in addition to the normal mental, no interest in food
5. TheLastOne36 - UP!
6. Morred - skipped
7. dawn - cooking in the car?

i'm afraid i'm going to have to have a skip. I don't have enough time, my co-worker is sick again so all his work get's dumped on me, so i'm working extra. (the doc said he'd be better on Friday) so put me back in the schedule on Friday.

Up to #381 1742AD and we just birthed a GP out of Beijing. Any thoughts on what to do with him?
- He can bulb Divine Right (not useful as the religion has already been founded).
- He can build the Christian Shrine. 11 cities @ 3gp is nice income addition.
- Settle him. Where?

Also, we have the ability to build the Globe Theatre. While the "no unhappy" bit won't help us much, it could really help Shanghai with culture. Thoughts?

In other news:
- Rifling completed and stole Philo from Jao so Nationalism is being worked (moving towards MT)
- Spread Conf to two more cities. Missionaries on their way to two more.
- Slowed research for $$ to upgrade troops.
- We are #3 in soldiers and still #1 in land.

Will await some input and pick up the game in the morning.
Nice full stomach (glazed pork tenderloin for dinner along with an excellent red wine) and I'm ready for bed.

Thanks for input (from where ever you are GF). I'm leaning towards the shrine for the extra income.

I'll wait a big longer for additional input from the team. Working from home today so I have some time to finish.

Taking a look around the State of the Union on the IHT:
Mound City and Beijing are building Knights. Check.
Gondar producing Conf Missionaries. We're only at 8% of the world's religion right now with Judaism at 40%. Notice that we're missing Xian in our own nation. Will rectify that situation.
Chengdu is spitting out spys. We'll need those.

Not much exciting happening so no screenshots.
Hightlights:
#378 Spy can take Optics from Jao, but I decide to hold off as it's a quick research for us on our own.

#380 Rifling -> Philo (research set on Military Tradition)
Failed the "Guns for Butter" quest. :(
Spy can take Philo from Jao and succeeds! :D
Research switches to Nationalism.
Drop research to 0% for some rifle upgrades.

#383 Charley goes Emancipation.
I set Research to 50% and Spy to 10%. We need those points for tech stealing.

#384 Build the Church of Nativity. Now at +22G/turn at 50% research and 10% Spy.
Spy Hill established outside of Shanghai as a staging point for our spys. At least Jao's city is close by so we don't suffer too much from distance penalties.
Worker's Point established outside of Spiro as a gathering spot for the workers. Very few improvements left.

#386 1752AD Shanghai starts the Globe Theatre. We need the culture boost along the border with Jao.
Halt here as we just popped at GE at Aksum.

We have moved the Conf religion up from 8% to 14% of the world which translates into some much needed cash for us.
We're still at #3 in soldiers.
With the Christian Church of the Nativity, we can alternate Conf and Christ Missionary building as not all of our cities have Christianity and that 1G per city adds up.
GE is standing in Aksum. Anything in our future we need him for? Corporation maybe?

Here's the save:

Good call on the shrine. I need to check the potential food supply of Shanghai. As I recall, I was looking for a good spot for the Globe and I considered Shanghai. I'll try to get some thoughts up over the next three nights.

Here we are in Shanghai.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0021.JPG

What's wrong with this picture? We're running a citizen in Shanghai. I'd run an engineer until the Globe is up. In the interim, I'd use all those lazy workers to irrigate all the plains around it (except for the cows and workshop). After the Globe, we need to consider if Nationalism makes sense. Give some thought to the big benefit of the Globe and Nationalism. What does it allow us to do? Can we/should we put Heroic Epic here?

We now have a really good reason to move off Knights in Beijing, rifles. Beijing should build rifles, rifles and more rifles. They should get moved to Gzhou upon being built.

Got enough spies for now. Built infra, preferrably forges, banks, markets, and grocers, (not necessarily in that order) in the cities that don't have them.

We've built all the monestaries we really need. Time to switch civs. Any recommendations? We do need to dedicate at least one, maybe two cities to dedicated Confused Missionary production.

And really long term, should we find ourselves at war with anyone but Charles or Joao, we should consider taking a city of that AI, spreading Christianity into it and then making peace and gifting it back. Let me know if you want an explanation. I think it highly unlikely we'll get this opportunity, but I wanted to mention it.

The MM and production have been pretty unfocused. Gzhou doesn't need to be building anything but culture at this point. Rifles we can build elsewhere and realistically, Gzhou ain't building anything worthwhile unitl we knock down Joao. Watch the MM. We're running Citzens as our free specialist in a couple of cities. That ain't optimal.

Grey Fox would probably disagree with some or most of this, but this is my style for this level.

My suggested tech path needs some work. Any thoughts on going to Chem now? We've let the discussion fall off since we started and we need to start it up again. Spent too time on skips and swaps and not enough on strat. (sorry, GF got a rant, so I figured I get one too, being :old:)

OT - dinner tonight is simple, pasta with marinara, salad with balsamic dressing, and garlic bread :crazyeye:

We've got that GE sitting. I can't come up with any better than to save him to rush IW. Anyone got a better idea?
