Spring Patch Info

If this will in fact be the last patch we get before another expansion drops, and assuming the next expansion is some time in January/February 2019, that's quite a long time to go without any developper updates/patches. It might mean that they're putting their all into this patch to make sure the community stays happy for the next 6-9 months.

I'm sure they will continue to patch the game every quarter or so, even if there won't be any new DLC or an expansion until next year.

The quality of Civ VI is appalling. R&F is worse. And people said that Civ VI would get "fixed" with an expansion and that's not what I'm seeing. My experience is regression with R&F (as you might expect as it adds a ton of new features and content).

I don’t think it’s that appalling. I do agree it needs some work (some is a bit of an understatement), but I’ve been having way more fun since R+F and pushes that “one more turn” feel on me. I personally never want to go back to V because of how complete the game feels feature-wise. But there are a number of issues that really do need to be patched, and I’d love to see more patches before more DLC/expansions. (Example: The AI needs to be able to use an Air Force).

I mostly disagree with you, @blackbutterfly, and agree with you, @Jkchart. I loved Civ V - the final product that it came to be, and even moreso when I was playing with some mods and Vox Populi. To me, that was the complete Civ experience. But once Civ VI came out and some (not all) of the features in V were already included with the vanilla game PLUS all the new features and R&F... it feels like a breath of fresh air to me for the game. Do vanilla Civ VI and R&F have problems? Absolutely! Are they beyond the realm of fixing? Absolutely not! This game is still pretty early in development if we are to get 2 more expansions, and I expect that once development is complete, the only time people will be talking about "how bad" Civ VI was is when Civ VII comes out and everyone's remembering the early stages of VI. We nust be patient and trust that the developers are continuously working to make sure we get the best product. You can't wish for bread and have it suddenly appear; you must gather the ingredients, put them together, and bake them before you get an actual loaf of bread.

Is there a way to disable Updates for Civ 6 on Steam?
I noticed only settings for priorities when to look for updates, but no way to disable updates.

In regard of the epic scale of some games and the fact that patches have the chance to break savegames, especially when playing with mods, a Patch Management for Civ games would be a good idea. The game should look for new patches and inform the player. The player decides when to download and when to apply. So if you have a game running you could download the latest patch but wait until you have finished your current game before applying it.

The same should apply for mod subscriptions via Steam. If there is a new version of Civ 6 and modders adjust their mods to this version, the mods are automatically distributed to all subscribers, possibly compromizing the players' current games.

I know context is everything, but I have to take issue with some people's reasoning that this will be the last patch for a long while. Sure, it might be, but saying that Anton's wording of "for months to come" is an argument, I'd have to disagree. To me it is a rather empty PR sentence, and can be easily countered by saying you will enjoy the fruits of the patch also when other patches are introduced (I'm still enjoying the fixes from all the previous patches, not just the latest).
Again, it doesn't mean that it won't be the last patch for a while, and it doesn't mean the opposite either, but the data EaglePursuit uses is empirical and builds on precedents. I love his research and am always happy to see his results, but that doesn't mean that everyone should automatically jump to every other hunch or feeling that is given. :) (by him or others)
(To that respect I also think "prophet" is a huge misnomer, and I would love to see it change to Great Scientist :p)

Just to clarify. I wrote this because I see one person (in this case Eagle Pursuit) say something small, and people run away with it and it forms a discussion. That's great to see, it provides a lot of food for thought, but I think it's wise to sometimes propose a counter balance, especially if we deal with things that haven't proven to be certain, and are an interpretation of facts, followed by assumptions.

Erm...this hope & pray attitude is for community developed software (mods) or FOSS. Not for stuff you pay for. There is such a thing as consumer protection law

But while I love the enthusiasm and genuine keenness shown by gaming communities, they are sometimes immature and troll you like religious zealots :mischief:
I said my experience of R&F was pretty poor. Several of my R&F games had to be abandoned cos of serious/major bugs which I reported ->

So I'm happy for Firaxis QA to take their time with the spring patch release, even if we're getting another one in ~3 months.

Absolutely love RaF, Firaxis did a bang-up job and can't wait for this patch :) If it's coming today it'd be at 2 PM EST right?

No. It would have been an hour ago.

I am hoping the delay is caused because someone realized that the ai doesn't know how to use an Air Force and that fixing it after 18 months is a good idea.

At this point I'm beginning to think the problem can't be fixed. Which is just sad. One reason I played my game to past turn 600 was to hopefully see some aircraft. I seen a couple biplanes (which do a surprising amount of damage to my jet bombers) and a jet bomber by the AI, the AI never used the jet bomber.

"I hope you enjoy these changes for the months to come"

Nothing saying we won't get quarterly patches like before. Technically 3 months is months as said in the video. I suppose that depends on if they feel they have any major issues to address. At this point I think they can care less about civ balancing, and it doesn't appear that will ever be patched. Up to the modders I suppose. Or just play an alternate leader.

Sounds like there is not only a patch.

They are only QA testing the patch at the moment. They are certainly working on an expansion and possibly DLC in the office. Things like art, design, voice, and music have to be planned out before they get to the part where we can detect that they are up to something.

There is no direct connection to Civ6 or the patch or did I miss some info?
Obviously it was a good meeting for Sarah ... maybe the next project will be a Civ game where you can play as Cat Civilizations. ;)

Yeah, I think we are reading too much into Sarah's tweet. All the meme indicates is that she had a great meeting. That alone does not tell us anything about what happened in the meeting.

Maybe she found out in the meeting that whatever issue caused this big delay has finally been quashed.

LOL, wow this thread has gone down hill. Thats reading way too much into anything. She might not even me talking about work...

As far as I am aware, Sarah is strictly on Civ. So it's unlikely to be in a meeting for a different project. Maybe they finally got approval to run with the patch.

It is work related, because she added this one a few tweets later:
