Hope it doesn’t come out for a while, just started a new game with China that I’m having a blast with and making Australia my penal conlony for stealing the pyramids.
There is a chance the patch might not even be here 2 weeks from now.
Fair play on hawking. Good idea. Hopefully they are reading.
+1 for this, and while we're at it lets have Pratchett as a writer. I know this is wishful thinking but it would make me smile.
Uhm, playing a game as Persia these days, and I don't think my Immortals can take cities ... did I miss something? I had to take in a scout to take the cities once I had run them down to zero health.Do we have any more concrete details about the patch since the video announcements? Someone in the unique unit thread indicated Immortals can no longer take cities? Is that for real?
I have a vague memory that you need to move the the immortals into the city to trigger the "melee" attack. Somebody else might remember better.Uhm, playing a game as Persia these days, and I don't think my Immortals can take cities ... did I miss something? Incorrect, they cannot any more and I've tested this extensively. They cannot Melee attack at all, let alone take cities. Even other units that I've added and given this ability to no longer work in this way.Nope, this has not changed. Immortals can use melee attack and capture cities
You right. I just tested it and sadly they have broken it. Oh, well, it was fun for Persia as long as it lasted (it will surprise me if is in the patch). Luckily for me, I never play Persia anyway (but it would of course be good if for the AI Persia).Incorrect, they cannot any more and I've tested this extensively. It seems like this is an unintentional bug introduced with that patch (2018 March Developer), or possibly even the February pre-R&F patch, since it wasn't mentioned in either notes and the Immortal was specifically changed in the Fall 2017 update to behave counter to this (i.e. behaves primarily as a melee unit with a ranged attack ability). It also doesn't make sense if it was intentional since attacking via the move button rather than the range attack button is +5 strength difference even though the attack action is exactly the same. Not to mention that it's still classified as a Melee unit and belongs to that promotion class. The problem with this change is that it leaves Persia w/o a viable Melee unit from Iron Working until Gunpowder and essentially two ranged units, of which one is significantly better. Kind of sucks since this was a crucial ability I gave to Missile Destroyers in my unit mod that granted ranged strikes, but still allowed capturing of cities.

Wow, the rumors were true? What on earth caused Firaxis to reverse itself? They initially added the melee attack after people (including me) protested that the famous Immortal could not take cities (imagine if samurai couldn't either). Then now, it seems they took it away again. What the Hell.
As I wrote in a different thread, I'm surprised that there hasn't been more chatter about this. It was a big issue up until it was changed in the Fall 2017 patch so I'm surprised more people weren't aware of it. The initial bug reports I saw about the reversion go back well over a month and I did my own testing about three weeks ago. At that time I also submitted a bug report to FXS. Quoting myself from a different thread:
It was brought up in this thread and this bug thread. I also remember there being a reddit thread or two about it.I don't recall a specific thread on the topic?
Well I reported it in three different locations, so hopefully one gets noticed.I have no idea how Firaxis prioritizes issues. You would think that bug reports would be the correct approach, but whether they're diligent about that I don't know. I'd have said that community chatter (of which there has been little) would be more likely to catch their attention, but that's just a guess.
Just including a Stephen Hawking quote or make him join us as great scientist would make my day.
