Spring Patch Info

Hope it doesn’t come out for a while, just started a new game with China that I’m having a blast with and making Australia my penal conlony for stealing the pyramids.

Same. Just started as Harald. Surpricingly i have not earned an acchievemt for his win yet. Hoping to get 4 achievements in one game but capturing a settler could be based a good bit on luck. The continent shared with teddy might not be favorable for sea combat and he has 20% continent bonus. I’ll better be prepared to defend as i’m forward settling and Teddy is pissed

There is a chance the patch might not even be here 2 weeks from now.

Good chances it will be here next week but i’ve been wrong on this before. I’m hoping firaxis is kind and adds something nice on the patch notes at launch we dont know about. Just including a Stephen Hawking quote or make him join us as great scientist would make my day.

+1 for this, and while we're at it lets have Pratchett as a writer. I know this is wishful thinking but it would make me smile.

More fantasy writers modern age would be great. But then it would be hard as many are still alive. Pratchett died in 2015.

If there would be great entertainers i would love to see bobby fischer. My favority quote in civ 6 comes from max euwe

Do we have any more concrete details about the patch since the video announcements? Someone in the unique unit thread indicated Immortals can no longer take cities? Is that for real?

Uhm, playing a game as Persia these days, and I don't think my Immortals can take cities ... did I miss something? I had to take in a scout to take the cities once I had run them down to zero health.

I have a vague memory that you need to move the the immortals into the city to trigger the "melee" attack. Somebody else might remember better.

Yes, the default attack is ranged, but you can manually select melee attack and still take cities right? I would be annoyed if they removed the Immortal ability to take cities once again.

Nope, this has not changed. Immortals can use melee attack and capture cities

Incorrect, they cannot any more and I've tested this extensively. They cannot Melee attack at all, let alone take cities. Even other units that I've added and given this ability to no longer work in this way.

You right. I just tested it and sadly they have broken it. Oh, well, it was fun for Persia as long as it lasted (it will surprise me if is in the patch). Luckily for me, I never play Persia anyway (but it would of course be good if for the AI Persia).

Wow, the rumors were true? What on earth caused Firaxis to reverse itself? They initially added the melee attack after people (including me) protested that the famous Immortal could not take cities (imagine if samurai couldn't either). Then now, it seems they took it away again. What the Hell.

As I wrote in a different thread, I'm surprised that there hasn't been more chatter about this. It was a big issue up until it was changed in the Fall 2017 patch so I'm surprised more people weren't aware of it. The initial bug reports I saw about the reversion go back well over a month and I did my own testing about three weeks ago. At that time I also submitted a bug report to FXS. Quoting myself from a different thread:
It seems like this is an unintentional bug introduced with that patch (2018 March Developer), or possibly even the February pre-R&F patch, since it wasn't mentioned in either notes and the Immortal was specifically changed in the Fall 2017 update to behave counter to this (i.e. behaves primarily as a melee unit with a ranged attack ability). It also doesn't make sense if it was intentional since attacking via the move button rather than the range attack button is +5 strength difference even though the attack action is exactly the same. Not to mention that it's still classified as a Melee unit and belongs to that promotion class. The problem with this change is that it leaves Persia w/o a viable Melee unit from Iron Working until Gunpowder and essentially two ranged units, of which one is significantly better. Kind of sucks since this was a crucial ability I gave to Missile Destroyers in my unit mod that granted ranged strikes, but still allowed capturing of cities.

Hopefully it caught the attention of the development team, but who knows. It certainly flew under the radar on this forum. I don't recall a specific thread on the topic?

@Laurana Kanan: thanks for investigating and raising the issue. I have no idea how Firaxis prioritizes issues. You would think that bug reports would be the correct approach, but whether they're diligent about that I don't know. I'd have said that community chatter (of which there has been little) would be more likely to catch their attention, but that's just a guess.

It was brought up in this thread and this bug thread. I also remember there being a reddit thread or two about it.

Well I reported it in three different locations, so hopefully one gets noticed.

And there are so many to choose from :D

BTW lucky for Firaxis winter refuses to leave this year in the UK. It's on the cusp of May but still freezing and doesn't feel warm enough for Spring. Maybe the weather is synchronised with the timing of the patch drop?

Really? It might be me using multiple unit mods. But from my memory this was possible not that long ago. Have not tested it since R&F. But should not be longer then 5-6 months ago since i last played persia
