Sri Lanka 2: A Tamil Narrative (not an OCC) for RFC DoC

Wait really?? That's very cool actually

Yup, another region which is a bit like that is the central part of the mediterranean. I've noticed for every empire that controls the stretch of the mediterranean the trade revenues are enormous, but if something happens to the overland trade route through north africa or through the sea, then there is a big decline in income. And if you manage to establish control over the trade between the eastern and western part of the med then you get really really rich. I haven't noticed anything like this for the Indian ocean or for South East Asia yet but logically speaking it should be so. Perhaps we'll find out in my india story.

Like Konstantinoupolis and Alexandria were historically. :yeah:

Constantinople gets a lot of trade, but I've not seen that for Alexandria in my games without the Great Lighthouse. Of course in my story the Great Lighthouse was built in Constantinopolis :p . So that is a double benefit. Which gives me an idea ....

Tamils + Great Cothon + Colossus + Great Lighthouse + Porcelain Tower = Epic coastal civ !

Adhiraj, I didn't say in-game, I said historically they matched your descriptions.

A Gibraltar city could realistically get some good money, it would also be very strategically important.

Government Reports, Part 14: Tamil Sovereignty
Compiled and edited by Adiyaman, Chief Secretary and General Assistant to the Emperor and Karthikai, Chief Government Archivist, dated to 1640 AD.

On New Year's Day, 1620, our great emperor Rajendra Chola announced the beginning of a new doctrine of foreign policy: he called it Tamil Sovereignty. The principle of this is that the Tamil Empire would have control over all of the Indian Ocean and South Asia. A few months later, he showed that he meant what he said with a declaration of war on Thailand.

Cannons bombarded the city and blasted down the defenses of Ayutthaya, but a storm destroyed most of the amphibiously attacking Musketmen, leaving only 1 division left. (an: I made one of the stupidest attack ideas ever. I originally played this game over a year ago on 1.10, so I couldn't reverse that.)

Meanwhile, a group of miners near Kachnipuram struck gold, providing huge amounts of money to aid the war effort.

After several grueling barrages of cannon attack, and many tedious attacks by the one remaining Musketman division, Ayutthaya was taken and the Thais destroyed, paving the way for the policy of Tamil Sovereignty.

Tamil scientists discovered the secrets of Chemistry, allowing the army to upgrade their units to very powerful Grenadiers.

Tamil diplomats finally concluded a peace treaty to the Second Tamil-Spanish War, though there was almost no fighting and both sides quickly wanted a peace treaty.

Trades with Korea gave the Tamil Empire an edge over every other empire in the world.

During this age of Tamil prosperity, stability continued to rise.

The Tamil Empire, already at war with Mongolia, was happy to welcome China to the family of Tamil vassal states.

End of report.

How you manage such an expansive empire without collapsing (what most DoC players struggle with) or going bankrupt (what I struggle with ) will forever elude me.

This is with the old stability system, which was much less punishing. I managed to keep the other categories up, so my expansion didn't hinder me too much.

The trick is in building up your cities to the max without expanding early and then expanding through military conquests. In my games the military stability usually weighs off the expansion and economy instability. I first discovered this playing Germany having conquered all of central Europe.

So I'm back! I've decided to ditch the story writings for now until we reach democracy (then I have an awesome idea) and power through some gameplay updates, as I've been stuck with writer's block on my current storyline for nearly a year now (yikes!).

Government Reports, Part 15: Old World Domination, New World Order
Compiled and edited by Adiyaman, Chief Secretary and General Assistant to the Emperor and Karthikai, Chief Government Archivist, dated to 1685 AD.

The glorious Tamil Empire had near undisputed control of the seas, and to commemorate this occasion, our Emperor ordered the construction of a magnificent square to celebrate.

Throughout the empire, the grenade, far deadlier than the flintlock, became the default weapon of defense in the various cities.

Meanwhile, a galleon of brave settlers and musketmen commenced greatest nautical risk ever taken by any civilization up to that point: attempting to sail across the seas and settle the New World, a continent explored but never fully settled by any civilized empire.

In 1650, a great act of diplomacy officially intertwined the Ming and Chola houses: a marriage between a descendant of our Emperor and a niece of Hongwu, the Chinese emperor.

30 years after our Emperor ordered its construction, Trafalgar Square stood finished. It gave the sailors and admirals trained in Anuradhapura a special kind of experience and confidence no other port could offer.

By 1680, 55 years of direct Tamil rule were starting to collapse. Riots broke out daily demanding more autonomy, and the corrupt, incompetent governor of the province failed to keep order. To the surprise of everybody, our Emperor decided to reorganize the vassal provinces into the Confederation of Cooperative Southeast Asia, a more loose, autonomous network consisting of all of the Indonesian and Thai nations. They were still quite closely tied to the Tamil Empire, but the disorder fell apart after that announcement.

Meanwhile, "the Pioneers" had finally arrived in America, and settled the first nonnative city on the continent: Thanjavur, named after the town which many of the Pioneers were from.

Despite success in America, our Emperor had a pressing war with the false, Mongolian Yuan dynasty and the Portuguese in Macao were sticking out like a sore thumb. As usual, two birds were killed with one stone by an armada, as the pathetic Mongolian navy was blown out of the water and peace was made.

After concluding that trifle, the "Purification Armada" as they were called advanced on their real target, the true challenge.
