The Zombies Attack

After the drama on the Grey Isle, there were only a few nations left to oppose the vast undead hordes. Still, the living were not completely without hope, since the undeads had decimated themselves while the Liches were busy searching for the Dreadskull. Still, with Nagash bent on the eradication of life, it could only mean war, and wars only fed the horde with more mindless soldiers. The Western League was first on Nagash's blacklist, obviously because of their proximity. The wrath the Worldkiller unleashed was most vicious.

There were only two great bastions left for the Westerners. The first and foremost was Dragonreach. Dragonreach was a fortress dug out in a large rock jutting out from the plains around. With vast underground complexes and a deep trench dug out around it, many still believed it could never be overrun. The other "bastion" was of course Shezmon himself. Being the very pillar of Draconic magic, he was a force to be reckoned with. Still, Nagash with his Rod of Power was equal to Shezmon in strength, if not greater.

The entire Western Campaign lasted for one year and halfway into the next. The living quickly stockpiled food and supplies in Dragonreach, preparing for the end. None really expected to survive, but they did what they could, following orders as best they could. This, however, also meant that many fled with ships out into the trackless sea, never to be seen again. Others feared that they would not be allowed inside Dragonreach when the siege began, and openly rebelled and stooped to banditry and raiding. This infighting among the living only served to fuel the Doom on their doorstep.

At last the siege was a fact. Needless to say, those outside the walls were either undead or about to be. Still, as many of the Westerners had hoped, their fortress proved too defensible even for the innumerable zombies. From the late summer to the coming of the spring, the fortress daily repulsed attacks from the outside. Never did the undead breach the walls, and the piles of broken and rotting corpses created horrid piles of disease and nauseous air before the gates.

The reason for the defenders' success was the fact that Nagash was not there to command the zombies. He was busy raising the many corpses in the lands around Shaemar and the Western Shelf. With the coming of summer, the residents of Dragonreach witnessed with horror a new horde as large as the one already at their gates arrive from the west. What more, in the center could be seen the black obelisk unmistakably heralding Nagash's arrival. The Worldkiller had come.

As the defenders braced for the final assault, an eerie calm settled over the citadel. The daily attacks had ceased, the zombies standing outside in tight clusters unmoving. The sight was like that of a forest of tiny trees on a windless day. It stood in stark contrast to the furious battles before, and the only thing that proved the carnage was the decomposing heaps of meat that emanated a sickly sweet smell that rested like a shroud over the city. The break was to come a few weeks later.

It became apparent Nagash had used the vast underground network intended for the defence of Dragonreach to his advantage. It sparked a panic like wildfire when a single undead corpse was found in the food storages under the citadel. It had obviously been there for days already, and was planted with a horrible disease. The precious food had to be burned, and the chamber sealed. Soon, the first victims began to die abruptly and spread green fogs of poisonous gas. Worse still, another corpse was found in the water cisterns. Every day, heaps of the dead were burned and their bones crushed, lest they be raised by Nagash.

Still, the efforts of the living could not keep up with the vicious disease. Soon, the situation was so desperate that the defence was about to break without even being attacked. Then, of course, they were attacked. At last, every last living stood at the walls fending off the undeads. Some fell suddenly, victims of the disease, others were consumed by the overwhelming zombies. Out of the thirty thousands in Dragonreach, a couple hundred only managed to escape via the underground tunnels, which were filled with zombies even before the attacks had restarted.

Two weeks after the fall of Dragonreach, the capital stood empty and void of life. Nagash had moved on to the lands to the east. Before him stood the remains of Ramon, the Shaban refugees, the Peshawahn Empire and the small nation of Clous. Individually, there were as easy to crush as the feeble Western League. However, as news of the true extent of the crisis was grasped, the human tendency to divide among themselves was instead turned into an enmity towards a common foe. It was them and us, the living and those who should not.

However, before Nagash was allowed to ravage the East, he had yet to conquer the second bastion. Shezmon was far from pleased at the destruction of his realm. After he had vanished from Shaemar during the war against Soltyria, he now returned with all the remaining dragons in the Southern Continent. Seeing how all he had built over a decade had been lost, he swore to take back his people from Nagash's horse. Thus, the next chapter begins... The Dragon's Revenge.

Here. Another chapter. That should keep you silent until the update.

Where is Sapphiron, what happen to him? I demandeth to know since you didnt allow me to take him with me!!!YAAAAAAAAAR!

Sapphiron will appear in due time. I forgot to say that he was the only one who refused Shezmon's call, for obvious reasons. He was not exactly weaker than him, but could not face all of the other dragons as well, so he wisely hid. But he will reappear...
