SSNES: Fall of Wu'di

A Culture of War - Struggle for Safety
Excerpts from an essay about the Ramonian Culture in the Fire Academy of Ramonia by Archmage Ligus.

"Since the creation of our nation we have been at war. Each year new campaigns are started to ensure the existence of our very nation, our ideals, our culture and our entire freedom. Like no other nation we Ramonians are fighting to beat the forces of Wu'di on every battlefied. Campaigns have been fought in the North, the push the invading Wu'di forces back into the sea. Campaigns have been fought in the West to help our western relatives in their struggle against Semnon. Campaigns have been fought in the East to secure our southern lands against a possible invasion by the Triad.
And in the following years we will continue to fight campaigns. The reason for our numerous wars is not some kind of eternal hatred against the oppressing Wu'di, although this hatred is indeed deeply integrated into our culture, but it is fear.
Yes we Ramonians fear! We, the most warefaring successor state of the former Wu'di empire fear! We Ramonians, who march from one war to the other, from one battlefield to the next, we fear! We don't fear for our lifes, or that of our families. Never has a Ramonian soldier fled from the battlefield and even when large parts of our army are destroyed and the death are covering the ground we continue to fight on, only to withdraw when no other options are left. We don't fear for our fertile fields and our productive mines, or our deep knowleadge of magic. We Ramonians fear to once again loose our freedom, our independence. We know that the enemy is still strong and numerous and we know that we can only survive by defeating him completly, or atleast damaging him enough to make him undangerous. The threat is obvious and therefore our enemy is obvious.

As it is obvious for an Ramonian, that warfare is most necessary to defend our liberty, a warrior is a very respected person in our realm. When our armys return from the battlefield the people greet them with festivals of many kinds. But they don't celebtrate their victory or the defeat of the enemy. They celebrate their valour, their effort to defend our freedom. Even after a most humanilating defeat the people celebrate our soldiers like heroes. Even the widows and orphans are celebrating the comrades of their lost realtives, although their hearths are surely blackened by their lost. This is the reason why our armies can continue to march on, from one battle to the other. Because the men know that they are supported, they know that the people are counting on them.

(...)

As a result it is obvious that Ramonia will never fall. Because not only our armies are fighting the enemy - our very culture is facing the enemy. We will march on and in the end we will crush all who threaten our safety. Sometimes we will be beaten on the battlefield, but we will just rise again and continue our struggle. Each defeat will only strengthen our determination to fight on.

One day in the far future when the Wu'di are long beaten and all their followers have been destroyed, and when those who came after the Wu'di have been defeated, and those who came ofter those - Then we Ramonians will lay down our weapons, bury our armours an let loose our warhorses and then we will able to live a peacefull life. This will be the paradise.

I really liked your speech...

Thanks I'm currently in a story writing mood.

OOC-should-be-pmed: You are from Norway? Does "Solland" mean something like "Land of the Sun"?

BravO! A story! *sniff* I'm touched! ;)

EDIT: That is correct, tossi. Sol is sun, and land is, well, land. So, Land of the Sun.

Yes I'm also from Norway. Me and Fryzer are friends in RL. ;)

Goody. I needed a good Viking name for Florida in AzalesNES. If you wanted to you could give me some evil-sounding Viking personal names ;).

Thanks to Azash, he gave me the inspiration for the A Culture of War story.

Hmm. What about Arnulf "The Ravager" Bloodbeard? He has pale skin and red hair and likes foreign women. And he has a mean axe and horned helm. Wait, the horned heim wasn't used by the Vikings! But it sounds so stereotypical, so I guess it's OK. :viking:

No horned ones? Thats how I wanted my Skrealings to call the Vikings :(.

Arnulf "The Ravager" Bloodbeard? Thats quite a heavy one! My Viking Captain is actually quite a nice guy.

Well, you said , so I kinda figured...

Due to our nation already trading with yours and Westshire, or so Minister Rihos tells me, we saw no need to concern Archwizard Erisen with your reguest.

In the morning dusk a lonely hawk flies across the sea, it has been battered by the weather. But in it's flight it still has a noble and proud sense to it. The Islands of Torinnin* looked as peaceful as usual although there was lingering tension, Ged, the Minister of Domestic & Faith affairs of Bellfern, was out for a walk at the dockyards, when a hawk landed to his forearm. He noticed that the bird was carrying a message. Ged took the letter and let the hawk fly back into the sky.

"It's from Sulimann." - Ged though as he opened the letter.

"Congratulations on your success in taking over the Torinnin Islands, and i've heard that you didn't even encounter much resistance. That's concludes phase one of our operation, phase two will be much more challenging. But before i get into that, i'd like to inform you of what's been happening in Bellfern.

We've completed the construction of the Violet Citadel, now Cha'dra is protected from any attack magical or not. But i've also got some bad news. Archwizard Erisen has fallen deeply ill, and we are not sure how long he will be alive. The country is now practically run under the orders of Me and Gauvard (The War Minister). The council of the nine has been split to two, over who shall take Erisen's place as Archwizard once he is gone. The other half of the council support Me as Erisen's successor and the other half support Gauvard.

Speaking of Gauvard, he is due to arrive there to meet and coordinate with you on who to deal with phase two of our operation. I know how you don't like working with him, but try to do the best you can. Your orders will be to capture the Earth Academy at Turin and transport all of the important infromation on Earth magic to the Torinnin Islands and then return with the scrolls to Cha'dra, while Gauvard will secure the rest of the city and pull out with your druids once you have completed you objective.

The loss of the Earth magic academy would be a significant blow to the Empire remnants and would help in their eventual defeat. Be careful though, as we believe the other of the two Imperial brothers to be in the city itself and he is not going to let you take the city without a fight.

We know we cannot hold the city for long, so once you have acomplished your objective all of our forces will be pulled out of Turin, before the Empire can retaliate."

*Sigh* "I'd better get ready before Gauvard get's here." - Ged thought as he closed the letter and started to walk back to the Governors Mansion he was using as his place of stay.

* The islands chains that i captured from the Empire of Wu'di, i'll simply make it so that in Bellfern those islands chains are called the Islands of Torinnin.

Another story! This NES is reaching unimagined heights! :goodjob:
