I have been following the progress of 'Star Wars: A New Mod' (SWANM!?) for a while and definitly don't want it to stop. There are so many mods based on obscure sci-fi stories and yet there still isn't a finished Star Wars mod! There should have been a long time ago.

IMHO all energies should be on first completing the Galactic Civil War civs and then on the other civs. Then, only then, when all the civs already started and on the current list are complete, should time be put into adding the extra civs from the 'Expanded Universe' other than ideas and text/names.

I do as told;)

subbss:

You have a point. However, work would progress further with more people working towards on seperate areas. Co-ordinated of course, so that a mod would be released quicker. However, the final choice is jobiwan7's...

DonStamos:

Who was that directed at?

I think we should start work on the Galactic Civil War, but I'm not saying anyone should be restricted to a specific era. If you want to contribute to both, that's even better.

Well, there's already one person working on alpha testing Galactic Civil War, which gives us some time to develop the units that still need complting for it.

The units that I feel are missing are:

Heavy Rebel Trooper
Rebel Commando
Rebel Light Mech
Rebel Medium Mech
Rebel Heavy Mech
Mon Calamari Starcruiser (MC-80)

Anyone else think I'm missing any others?

No, not yet. But remember, each Rebel unit has to be countered by a Empire unit for it to be fair.

B-wing = TIE Defender or Scimitar Assault Bomber;)

Pleb, I meant it to say I do waht you guys want me to do;)

True. Which fighters would match up? I was thinking

Rebel----------Imperial

X-Wing------TIE Fighter
Y-Wing------TIE Bomber
A-Wing------TIE Interceptor
B-Wing------TIE Defender

Would those work? Or some other match-up?

Some of my logic might not make sense, as an X-Wing is more than a match for a TIE Fighter one-on-one. I was thinking that the X-Wing and TIE Fighter are the standard fighter for both civs. The Y-Wing and TIE Bomber both were bombers, the A-Wing and TIE Interceptor were both built for speed, and the B-Wing and TIE Defender were both the heavy-hitters.

Don't forget the E-wing, which was also a heavy-hitter type.

Problem with matching that up is the Scimitar was more of a bomber than anything, so I think it would match up with the B-wing a bit better, since one of the B-wings main roles was bombing, after all;)

Not really. The Rebels should have more, since they had to use whatever they could get thier hands on.

And just out of curiosity what period of time are to using for the Rebel units?

I have some models of fighters, crusiers, battleships and stations
for the Republic, Naboo, Trade Federation, Rebellion, Galactic Empire and others.
I think I will create a discussion thread in this and our forum with previews of all units I have.
So we could discuss, which units we are need.

the rebellion used b-wings as assault fighters, and tie intercepters countered them, the empire only had about 1 squad of defenders in the battle of Endor, part of the Oynx squadron. the a- wing was developed as a strike fighter.

You could give the rebels the B-wing and the E-wing as alternatives to the Tie Defender. Just give them slightly different stats and costs.

Really.....! Were they in the movie? I thought the tie defenders were prototypes or not many had been developed. I thought I read that they were not ever used (before the fall of the Empire) because if they were they would be too big an advanatage, since they were the first ships with shields, and the Rebellion never would have won. Weren't they used only after the fall of the Empire (remnant)? Am I wrong? If I am I could someone tell me what book they got their info from... I'm just curious. I'm no Star Wars expert....please correct me if I'm wrong.

Just want clarification, thats all....

@TheMorpheus, BTW nice models :goodjob:!

EDIT: I think that to have a balance between the civs the units of each don't have to have exactly the same stats as long as the combined force as a whole has equal power. For example if you have two fast units (I'll call them unit A and unit B), and A is slightly faster than B it can still balance out if unit A is only really a hovercraft but B can travel through space. Or if both are space-capable but A has weak weapons or is a bomber and B has an area of attack weapon so it doesn't have to hit A right on and can take it down regardless of its speed. A and B do not have the same abilities but they still balance out.
Further, A could be more expensive than B so the civ with B can have greater numbers of B even if they are inferior units.

IMHO this is more realistic to real combat units where there is a lot of variation.

Okay, these are all great ideas. The E-Wing was already made by someone else, but the Trade Federation ship I made was just something I stole from another game. It's not very good, I'll admit.

subbss has got it spot on. I've already done this partially in The Clone Wars, as the forces match up slightly, but the equalness is there. With the exception that the Republic do not have the Heavy Clone Trooper yet. I believe jobiwan7 was working on that.

Any way, this is all great stuff people.
