Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back

:bump: Ok, as of now the mod is coming together very well. I just made Yuuzhan Vong cities, and the link is in my sig. I have one teeny, tiny question though, should we really have Palpatine as leader of the Republic? He was really both a leader of the republic, the confederacy and the empire, so shouldn't we have a different leader for the republic? There's gotta be someone.

could amidala be a leader of the republic?

i'm just a crazy star wars nut who has been living under a rock for the past decae or so, and i stumbled across the star wars: a new mod website. i was intrigued by the whole civ3 mod thing, so i e-mailed the tpsmall guy or whatever. After not getting a reply from my suggestions for several days, I perused the site further to find that it hadn't been updated in 2 years :( . Not giving up on the Star wars civ3 mod, I came across this site. After looking through 21 pages of mod workings, I thought I might be able to assist you guys (or gals).

Admittedly, i'm no good at unit design, and I don't exactly know how far along you are and what is still left to be done  , but i do know a lot about sw and can help with tech trees, unit ideas, and other stuff like that.

I also found it ironic that the questions posed by polyphemus and odintheking were the same ones posed in the first page. Anyway, I think that Palpatine as leader of the Galactic Republic is fine. Valorum (the supreme chancellor before Palpatine) couldn't be the leader because he had no part in the Clone Wars, or even the Naboo War. I don't mean to shoot down polyphemus' idea :ar15:, but Amidala couldn't be the leader of the galactic republic- she was only leader of the naboo, a small part of the republic. This is like saying that Chief Chirpa, leader of the Ewoks, is leader of the Rebel Alliance.

What odintheking said about Palpatine, "He was really both a leader of the republic, the confederacy and the empire," is true. He controlled and manipulated all three, but Count Dooku is a much better leader for the Separatists, as he was "outwardly" their leader. Also, it is much easier to find an alternate leader for the empire (Darth Vader, for example) than it is to find one for the republic besides Chancellor Palpatine.

Anyway, i'd be happy to test out the scenarios, and if there is anything, ANYTHING!!! left to do that i can help with . . . .(cuz i'd really love to be a part of this) :D

Hey, welcome to Civfanatics! The original team has forsaken us but we're always looking for new recruits,. Tpasmall and Pleb don't come here anymore, but we've got a whole new team now, and the mod's startin to look pretty good. In case you didn't know, we added a fifth civ, (the Yuuzhan Vong from the New Jedi order series) to spice things up. Sadly, the old site is no longer updated, but I have created a modest site, where you can download the beta, and check up on news every so often, (http://www.angelfire.com/theforce2/starwarsmod/welcome.html). The mod is far from finished, and we can use any help you can give us. If you can't make graphics, you can see if there's anything that you're interested in in the Tutorials section. Even if you don't figure out how to make stuff, we're glad to accept another member and his ideas into our mod, :)

Welcome aboard starwarscrazy! Anyone with that name must know a lot about Star Wars. :crazyeye:

I don't know why this keeps coming up every so often. Palpatine is the leader of the Republic case closed. Vallorum was a mediocre leader that played a minor role in the saga and he was thrown out of office. Amidala was just an activist senator (there were over at least 1000 senators in the Republic Senate) and the queen of Naboo which is minute compared to the scale of the Republic.

ok, cool :D! i'm looking into the tutorial links off of your star wars mod site
(http://www.angelfire.com/theforce2/starwarsmod/titlepage1.html), right now. I only have one question- i downloaded the stuff you have off of your star wars mod site but they are all .rar files. could you tell me where i could download software that could open RAR compressed files? Also, i don't think i have designing software either- could you tell me which software works best (or is most freely availible)?

go to winace.com, and download their program. It's a free trial, but it doesn't expire. And what kind of "designing software" are you talking about?
BTW; I think you need conquests to play it.
P.S.- I was talking about tutorials here at Civfanatics.

Ohhh. :crazyeye: OK then, forget what i said about designing programs- i get it now. I have to give up the computer to "others who haven't been on all day" but i'll download a tutorial and start working by (hopefully) tonight at the latest.

Okay, okay, just seein' if anyone felt the same way, ;)

hey, im just a unit creator. I was just offering my suggestion which i now realize it was a bad one.

Hey, s'alright polyphemus. From what i can see from the tutorials, i probably won't be able to create units for crap. ;)

i have a tutorial in my sig that might that might help. Its a tutorial on how to make a simple tank.

P.S. All my tanks and planes i make in openfx and the foot units are made in poser.

The original team has forsaken us

Not completely! i was recruited by pleb, to work on the original GCW mod, and I'M still here.
Hey starwarscrazy...what kinda ideas did u have? It'd be cool to find out some of them.

I know i probably have a reputation by now to be a pain in the [random body part], but i've found some things to suggest for improving, idea-wise.
Yuuzhan Vong - if we are to have these, we should also create a few new civs;
1. The Peace Brigade. The only true alliance of the yuuzhan vong, who offered their help in attacking the jedi. [Forced war with jedi, forced alliance with vong]
2. New Jedi Order. Jedi Knights starting at stats of like 3,4,1 or something and increasing to 8,8,1 or something, to show their improvements to counter the threat of the yuuzhan vong invasion.
3. Chiss. The chiss played a 'very important' part in fighting the yuuzhan vong, they were unfixed alliance at the beginning, so they could be won over either way. Chiss clawcraft and stuff replacing fighters, and Alpha-red being the superweapon available to the chiss people.
4. Zonama Sekot. One planet square, with one specdial unit - planet - which can make hyperspace jumps. the planet tile remains where it is, pumping out fighters and units, and the planet unit carries the units into combat against the vong.

These should not be too hard to implement, as using my unit set many of the units which don't exist at the moment are just not included. Instead of having this as art of the mod, it should be a completely seperate mod, so a civver can choose what era s/he wishes to play. For the normal mod, only 2 civilizations should be allowed, as having clone troopers battling stormtroopers and the alliance is jsut odd. This too could be easily split into two mods, one which only clone war civs can be selected and one where gcw civs can be selected. This will take almost a whole second to sort out (gosh), and will give the game a bit more realism.

Possible Leaders;
I know we are all sick of this discussion, but im going to list all possible leaders for each civilization.
Rebel Alliance:
- Mon Mothma
- General Solo
- General Madine
- General Rieken
- General Dodonna
- Commander Skywalker
- Admiral Ackbar
- Admiral Sien Sovv [against yuuzhan vong]
- Borsk Felya [15 years or so after rotj]

Galactic Empire
- Admiral Piett
- Darth Sidious
- Emperor Palpatine
- Warlord Zsinj
- Ysanne Isard
- Lord/Darth Vader
- Grand Admiral Thrawn
- Grand Admiral Pellaeon

Seperatists/Confederacy
- Darth Sidious
- Count Dooku
- Darth Tyrannus
- General Grevious
- Viceroy Nute Gnray [for a naboo scenario]

Galactic Replublic
- Chancellor Valorum [god god god no]
- Darth Sidious
- Chancellor Palpatine
- The Beurocrats ["the republic is now run by the beurocrats" - sorry, ill keep being sensible]

Yuuzhan Vong
- Overlord Shimmra
- Warlord Tsavong Lah

Chiss
- Baron Fel

Jedi Order
- Master Skywalker
- Master Durron [kyp]

Zonoma Sekot
-Magister Jabatha

Peace Brigade
-Ylesia [this is their home planet, because i don't know who their leader is]

Well, it seems to me like having the Yuuzhan Vong era thing is a good idea, and the two civs at a time seems sensible, so why don't we make each of those into a scenario? That way, we can have the scenarios (Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Clone Wars, etc) and the regular mod, just for the sake of fun? That way we can please everyone. As for the leaders, I think the ones we have now are fine. Palpatine for the Republic (sigh, ;)), Mon Mothma for the Rebellion, Dooku for the Seperatists, Tsavong Lah and Darth Vader for the Empire (all Palpatine did during the civil war was sit on his comfy chair mumbling "we will destroy them", )

this is some last-minute stuff that i cobbled together for before signing off. unfortunately, until I get cable internet or DSL (i'm in the process of getting it- should only take 1-2 more weeks or so) i probably won't be able to download any of the programs to start building units. :(

I do want to know when a list of Yuuzhan Vong units could be made- their organic weapons sound cool. Also, the Juggernaut (the wheely thingy that the clone troopers used on Kashyyk) was used by the Galactic Republic only, so i dunno how it ended up on the list of units for the Rebel Alliance (i noticed the same thing in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds- why did the Alliance have that unit?).

Now i remember reading this earlier in your thread, but the idea of having resources such as the Naboo or Wookies in order to build naboo or wookie units sounded intriguing- if any of you are still pursuing this idea, make sure that the units are limited to those who use them- it wouldn't make sense to allow the Separatists to build Wookie Units or Naboo units. I just don't think that the units under 'Misc.' should go to waste- some of them are quite good. :)

Lastly, if you are making the Yuuzhan Vong units for a separate scenario, (in addition to the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War and the overall mod) why not make the New Republic a separate civ? Now i know that they were a branch off of the Rebel Alliance, but by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion the Rebels were no longer, well, rebels. The New Republic civ doesn't require many changes- as a matter of fact, it is pretty much a combo of mainly Rebel but also Imperial (such as the star destroyer) units. I'm just saying, it doesn't make sense for the Yuuzhan Vong invasion scenario to have the other civ (besides the Yuuzhan Vong, obviously) be the Rebels when the New Republic can be so easily made. The only major thing that i see that would require some work would be the Leia Organa Solo (by this time she married han) diplomacy figurehead.

is the mod called 'StarWars: The MOD Strikes Back' or 'StarWars: A New MOD'?

its called 'Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back'
Um, actually, its supposed to be called Star Wars; A New Mod, but since pleb wanted to start a new thread page he decided it'd be clever to change the title a bit; sorry langers.
I doubt it matters too much however which one you use.

we will probably be using different leaders for different scenarios - overall, palpatine was the main power behind the empire, masterminding the whole galaxy [a big job]. Darth Vader just did the jobs palpatine couldn't be bothered to do, like kill/convert skywalker. When vader failed, palpatine took it into his own hands, not expecting to be betrayed by his most loyal servant...
The New Republic would be in another scenario also, against warlords liek Teradoc and Zsinj; because when Coruscant fell, the Empire was split up into warring factions, and thus was not one big Empire but many fighting each other for power.
For the Yuuzhan Vong Scenario, they should have a huuuuuge cluster of ships to start with, and start capturing loads of undefended places quickly. It will be up to the New Republic player to turn the tide, and recapture their planets. Just an idea to chew on....

The juggernaught was an ancient unit by the GCW period, and thus widely available to any faction who wanted it. It's weapons were outdated, and it was replaced by the AT-AT for the empire, and the rebellion were able to commandeer some for their own uses in some situations.

Seperatists / Empire could make naboo and wookie units - though not the same units as the Rebellion and the Republic. Rebellion/Republic units would be gungan units as well as a wide range of naboo units, and wookie warriors and chiefs and stuff. However, for the Empire and Confederacy, more slave based units would be made, such as wookie slaves, better workers, but require 2 population or something. Gungan units would not be available (they'd all go into hiding underwater) and the empire discriminates against non-humans anyway. Naboo units would be weaker slave variants, eg Naboo Militia for the Rs being 2,2,1 and for the Empire/Confederacy being 1,1,1 and having a worker rate of 50 or something.

Hope these ideas help somewhat :)
btw, another leader for the New Repulbic would be Chief of State Leia Organa Solo.

Okay, so are these scenarios the ones going to made in the game and (if so) are these good ideas for them?

Nabbo War- (this can't feasibly be exactly like the movie) Trade Federation transports containing many units and 1 droid control ship surround a single, huge planet. The Federation must capture Queen Amidala. When the Feds invade she can attempt to flee to the Gungans to form an alliance (i don't know if this is possible, but it would be cool for only the Amidala unit to initiate diplomacy based on where the unit is). After forging an alliance the Gungans move out of their neutrality and attack the droid armies. For every city they capture (again, if possible) the Naboo get several units for themselves, including fighters. The Naboo must then either capture Gunray or destroy the Droid Control Ship (for this, give the Naboo Fighters the advantage to make them strong enough to fight many droid fighters at once) upon either they win (all Trade Federation Units destroyed). All-in-all, i don't see this scenario being much better (or longer) than what i just described- it'll probably not be anywhere near as good as the other three mainly because too much "needs to happen" in order for it to make sense. We could, however, just start it at the final battle- Gungans and Naboo vs. occupying Trade Federation. If anyone else has better ideas for this scenario, please go ahead and say them- to be honest i don't really like my own idea- the scenario seems too short.

Clone Wars- (Old Republic vs. Separatists) I dunno whether you want to start at or before the Battle of Coruscant, becuase it will probably be difficult to ensure that the AI will, at some point, attack in such force at a single place. Also, i dunno if you want the Clone Wars to be a single scenario with many planets, a series of scenarios for each battle, or both.

Galactic Civil War- Same as the clone wars- which way do you guys want the scenario to be?

Yuzzhan Vong Invasion- Like sheepmonster said, it would probably be
a huuuuuge cluster of ships to start with, and start capturing loads of undefended places quickly. It will be up to the New Republic player to turn the tide, and recapture their planets.
on a galactic-scale map.

Again, should the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, which had several major well-known battles that it would really suck to not include, be a single galactic scenario, a series of scenarios for each battle, or (which in my opinion would probably be best) a single galactic scenario with a series of other scenarios marking the major battles- Yavin, Hoth, maybe Bespin, Endor, Geonosis, Coruscant, and Kashyyk.
