Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back

Barbarians will be random "pirates", or basic warriors. They will have basic slug ships, and advance to beam tube soldiers. Geonosians will actually be part of the Confederacy, like the Mon Calamari are of the Alliance. Other species (tuskens, jawas, gungans, etc.) will be available by having their race as a resource. As for "Acklays", I don't remember seeing them ever, (of course, I've only had Battlefront 2 since Christmas, :mischief:)
@Chris85 - I actually posted a new unit tree in that quote, with the UU's and era 1 stuff shown.

Thank you, :)

As for everyone else on the team, I really need to know if the unit tree would work. If so, I can get started on the civ tech trees and eliminate the units we don't need from the unit request list, and add the new ones.

Ok, I've made a few changes to your unit tree, Odin. Here's what I have to say about it:

*One thing I notice is that the incorporation of the "ancient" units has pushed back the unit lines too where there is little room for EU units. This doesn't bother me much, but to some people it might.

*I switched Jedi Padawan/Jedi Learner around and vice versa for the Sith. I think the names look better this way.

*Snowtrooper and B-Wing got bumped up to 3rd Era for better historical accuracy.

*I moved Speeder Bikes and the like to the 2nd Era, because once you get Gunships, speeder bikes become obselete as Gunships can move just as fast if not faster than speeder bikes but have better attack and defense. I also wanted to make speeder bikes more useful in exploration as well, because there usually is still some land to explore in the 2nd Era, but in the 4th Era the entire map has already been explored.

*I took off the 2nd upgrade to mounted units, just to balance the number of units per era better. BTW, I don't mind if anyone puts this back in.

*For the Imperial Mechs, I put the TIE Crawler in place of the APC and placed the TX-130 Fighter Tank in the Standard Mech line where the TIE Crawler once was.

*The Space units all look dailed-in. I like them. :)

*We could do something different with the Barbarians, but I think it's fine for now.

Finally, I think we should pick a unit tree and stick with it, because it is obviously very difficult to please everyone. I also updated my Unit List to reflect the changes that Odin and I have made. What does everyone else think? Comments please? :scan:

Yep, that looks perfect. It keeps alot of variety, yet has balance. It looks really good. One suggestion; we should switch the TX-131 with the AT-PT. It just makes better sense that way. Oh, and your unit list. I recall that Sheepmonster already made the airspeeder, but his computer couldn't upload stuff, so he couldn't give it to us yet, so you can take it off the list.

Actually I think it makes more sense having the TX-130T be before the AT-PT, since the TX-130T is just a variation of the Republic TX-130S and was only used early on in the Empire, while the AT-PT stayed in use through the GCW and I also think the upgrade chain looks better having walkers upgrading to other walkers.

Although it is probably done, I'm not going to take the Airspeeder/Snowspeeer off until it's uploaded.

Alright I updated my list. I put the Swoop into the completed section and I'm using Jobiwan's new medium turret for the Imperial Turret unit. I also put in Jobiwan's other awesome new units into the list. We might find a place for the shield unit and maybe we can make the planetary turbolaser into some advanced kick ass artillery unit. I really can't find a spot for the Anti-Air Turret though, since the regular turrets are going to have anti-air capability anyway.

Chris- Can you also add both the Trade Federation Battleship/Freighter AND the Droid Control Ship? I've got models for both, and I should be able to do both no problem once I finish with the Providence. I also wanted to suggest that the Providence-Class also be used as a regular battleship for the Separatists, as they did in fact use them...the Invisible Hand was an upgraded/modified version. That way you could have a better, more advanced "Invisible Hand" version as the command ship and just a general Providence class as a battleship. Just my two cents...I think it'd add more to the realism scale.

hey im finally back- vacation in tampa florida (ahhh so much warmer than where i am now . . .) sorry for being postless for the last several weeks :mischief:

i like the unit tree (pretty much what i had, only no one could download it:() im ok with the EU units cut out, saves time, maybe after the release we could do a follow up if anyone feels like it.

seeing as no ones said it yet . . . :newyear:

the only suggestion i have is to make the Clone Recruit (offensive trooper for the Republic in Era 2) come in late during the era- that would allow for a Episode 1-like era with Trade Federation agression against a mostly defensive Republic (Naboo).

looking through the pages of old dialogue and looking at era 1, it seems as though we are not going to include the Jedi-Sith Conflicts and the Great Hyperspace war in our first release. if this is true, then i propose we keep it that way and hold of the extra conflicts until after the release of the mod, and after any follow-up EU expansion (id personally rather see the EU before the Jedi-Sith Wars.

Hey, SWC! Good to see you back. I like the defensive idea; I'll incorporate that into the tech tree. I too would like to see the EU first (seeing as how I was the one who kept on whining about the Yuuzhan Vong, ;) ) then the GHW ans stuff, but as of right now, we only have one unit made for each,, so we'll hold of on those till later.

I've got a ton of the KotOR models, but they're not in the right format. If I can figure out how to convert them to .3ds (and when I finish with anything I can crank out for the mod), I'll definitely be wanting to make some of those.

Everything is going great it looks like.

I was just wondering, is there anything I can do? Cause I want to contribute more than just knowledge and ideas.

I don't know how to make units otherwise I would be making a lot with all my free time so I was thinking of making a huge Star Wars galaxy map with as much detail as possible. My first Star Wars scenario was basically a total flop in everything except the map which is the only thing people liked.

I have many of the most up to date maps and I know some sites that list some of the major planets aligned with certain groups (but most of the planet listings are for the confederacy). Even if i don't choose the alignment I can just make cities with the planet names so people can modify it however they want.

But if anyone does have any advice on unit making it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. If you do want me to make a map give me certain specifications for planet sizes and so one. I was thinking of making the planets big for good ground combat but I will have to make the map huge with custom settings for size.

Well, if you want to make units, you should start out with a pcx editor, and FLICster. Open a flc in FLICster. Export it as a "pcx storyboard with border". Open up the pcx storyboard with your pcx program. Mess around and draw stuff on the storyboard, then save. Then you open up the FXM FLICster created, and view your progress. Once you get the hang of that, delete everything in the boxes of the pcx, and cut'n'paste something inside that has 8 directions. (For me, I usually cut'n'paste in SW:GB conversions, or I just get a premade model, open it in OpenFX, move it in the little preview box to N, NW, whatever, render, resize, then paste. You may also want to make your changes in paint, if you're more familiar with it, then select everything and copy into the pcx. That's what I do.) I know it seems like alot, but just PM me and I can help you make your first C'n'P units, :)
