staznesV: Gateway to an Alternate World

You know that in English no sentance begins with "and"? :p

so your telling me to disband your fleet? I think Ive got my spotlight special already for this update....

"The screams of the dying mingled with the terrible cries of the invaders. Blood flowed in the streets of Tyre, as men, women, and children were slaughtered by the inhuman monsters from the East. Flames licked at the sky; the odor of burning wood and burning flesh hung heavy over the dying city. Everywhere people ran frantically, like animals fleeing from murderous hunters. Never in any age before, nor ever again in any hence, has the world seen or shall the world see such horrors as the destruction of Tyre. Hittite soldiers swarmed over every structure in the city; they could be seen riding down frightened children, looting homes, raping women. Those of us who made it beyond the walls were lucky. We few were the few who survived. So intent were the invaders in their raping and plundering that they did not bother to give chase to us few who fled the city into the desert. As I ran from the flames of the ancient city, I looked back to see the holocaust which had laid to waste my nation.

...For many days we wandered in the desert. We had only what little food we had brought with us, and only what little water we could draw from the parched earth. Many died of hunger and exhaustion, unable to keep up, unable to go on...

...When our party had dwindled to perhaps half its original size, and when it seemed no man could go any further, Ba'al in his mercy brought us salvation. After much wandering, we came to the shore, in the shadow of a great mountain. On this mountain were wild goats and berries, of which we ate our fill; but what is more, on this mountain grew trees, with which we constructed ships. We knew we could not live long in this desert, however hospitable the mountain at first appeared. We would do as our race had long done; we would take to the sea...

..The journey was long and harsh. With little food and little water, we used every ounce of our strength to travel the sea, searching for fertile lands on which to settle. We came upon the Ku****es, men who had been trading partners and friends of the Phoenician people; but having heard of the Hittite invasion, and fearing the Hittites' wrath, the men of Kush forbid us from settling in their country, and sent us away with food and water...

...The storm buffeted our ships. Several men were lost to rogue waves and disease. I believe we are traveling East, but in this storm and these seas it is near impossible to know...Land is near, and the storm lets up...Ba'al is once again merciful...

...Drained of stores and of strength, we brought the ships ashore at the nearest beach. Thirsty, starving, and exhausted, I and my shipmates crawled onto the sand, where we were met by strange men, with skin darker even than the Ku****es'. At first they were frightened, but seeing we were in a state of desperation and need, they quickly fetched water and strange fruits never seen in any market of Tyre...

...We have lived amongst these people for several months now. They are very friendly, and very helpful. They live primitively, in wooden huts, and have only rudimentary tools, weapons, and boats. We have learned to speak their language to a degree, and them to speak Phoenician, to a degree. Several of our men have married their women...We are beginning to build homes for ourselves, in the style of our homeland...

It has been ten years since our arrival here, eleven since the fall of Tyre. Those Tyrians who fled the destruction of their city years ago now live happilly across the sea. The Phoenician and local populations have become fully integrated. They have learned our language, our customs, and our technology. A new generation has been born, neither Phoenician nor native, but a blending of both cultures. The homes we built years ago have grown into a small city, which we call Car'thage, the New City. Perhaps some day she shall become as great as Tyre once was..."

--Diary of Adon Balik, survivor of the destruction of Tyre

OOC: Joining as the lost tribe of Phoenicia (intermarried with locals), aka Carthage, located on the island of Zanzibar.

Actually 'and' can be used to start sentences in certain circumstances. However Das may be over doing it just a little bit.

Hmm and many of your people threw themselves at rocks... right...

You know that in English no sentance begins with "and"?

I know. You know that the ancient Taiwanese didn't speak English, nor did they know the complex rules of English syntaxis? ;)
so your telling me to disband your fleet? I think Ive got my spotlight special already for this update....

Oui. Hmm... Those who try to keep any big ships will be recycled for drinking utensils! I, the Teacher of the Taiwanese People, have spoken! :p

Actually 'and' can be used to start sentences in certain circumstances. However Das may be over doing it just a little bit.

Not me, the ancient Taiwanese chroniclers. All complaints go to them, I simply did the translation. :p
Hmm and many of your people threw themselves at rocks... right...

This is, what, 1600 BC? Our people were not advanced enough to know that doing that hurts. And besides, harakiri isn't invented yet.

If I were you, GM, I would have sailed to Madagascar as it was 100% uninhabited back then.

OC: Still mad about my education. Very Mad.

Addition: This was my first update. I guess you didn't see my orders. Still mad.

OOC: They didn't sail to Zanzibar on purpose. They just kind sailed in a straight line, just trying to get away from the Hittites as quickly as possible. And then they hit a storm, which blew them off course and set them upon Zanzibar, as opposed to India or Australia, which were my second and third choices. ;)

OOCII: We'll see what lands go unused. The Carthaginians are a seafaring people, remember. ;) And Azale said he's going to add some tribes to my area.

Australia is rather far away.

Sorry, its just that I can't stand it when such huge amounts of land go unused. There's not even a barbarian tribe there!

Yeah there should be lots and lots of different barbarian tribes in Australia considering the amount of native tribes that never managed to unite...

or 1 giant gray blob until someone actually lands there.....

If I haven't already been killed, just NPC me for now. I have way too much stuff going on right now to do anything but GoobNES. I might pick this back up after the AP exams are over.

OOC: Orders sent, Maybe a story if I have time.

To:Sparta
From:Byzantium
We are pleased we have come to an agreement.

Oh crap. NPC me please again. I really want to get into this, but this homework is sucking the life out of me.

Orders soon.

he's started update i believe

yay.......

ok, gimme a few more hours...

Update 4, 1400bce: Warriors of the Fallen Kingdom

War continues in Brittania. Caledonia, tiring of the Orcadian resourcefulness, finally decides to end the resistance. Using thier naval advantage, they blockade the port of Orcadia. While fishing is not exactly the major food source...it does somewhat weaken Orcadian will. Tired of fighting, the Orcadians surrendered.

While there is some unrest among some minorities within the Caledonian kingdom, a new wave of reforms has helped stem that unrest for now. The Gray lands have been converted by the Druids, and also joined due to thier being noone else to help them fight. It seems this could be a new age of Caledonian prosperity...

Rumors are wild in Northumbria about the new "Mercykillers". With thier base in York, these soldiers have been allowed by the King to deliver justice to those that deserve it...which usually includes some form of death. Sometimes the crime could be theft, or murder, or....disloyalty to the King. This has many Northumbrians frightened and scared, aswell as thier enemies. Wessex was defeated with limited casualties due to the Mercykillers, and with the conquering of Wessex, the King now renames Northumbria to England.
(England: -50 Mercykillers, -100 spearmen)

The great civilization of Atlantis is no more...(see spotlight)

Astile sees grand expansion and an army reorganization. This makes them the strongest western European power, due to the sudden extinction of the Atlanteans. This just makes the Astillean tribes nearby more united against the Astille Kingdom, making expansion slow in the south.
(Astille: -50 spearmen)

Etrusca has entered the Iron age...and for some reason speculated that the Tahretians had not. With what they believed was a great superiority, the Etruscan army boldy entered Sardinia, and began the Wars for Italia. The initial invasion in Sardinia was a grand failure, as a large Tahretian army layed waiting for such an attack. Still, the pride of the Etruscan generals led to an even more foolhardy charge into the Sicilian fortress. Etruscan losses were high, with minimal gain. Battles at sea proved slightly more forgiving to the Etruscans, as they scored key victories in the outskirts of Rome to prevent a counter-Tahret invasion.
(Etrusca: -200 spearmen, -100 archers, -15 galleys) (Tahret: -100 spearmen, -50 archers, -20 galleys)

Roads have linked Taranto to Etrusca, which leads to the sharing of the Iron Age to these nations. Iron has also spread from Iberia, through Italia, to Salzburg and is close to coming in Greece & Anatolia.

Talk about a power vacuum. With the absence of Atlantis, Byzantium is now the premier power of Europe, and maybe the world. Due to thier unification with Thebes-Thermopolye, they have also increased thier army greatly. Roads have been constructed, which has lead to increased trade with nearby Athens and Sparta, and newly created Bulgaria. Still, the storm cloud that is the Hittites remains over the Byzantines heads. Generals stand ready as Hittite army movements rattle thier nerves...but nothing has happened as of yet.

Byzantine expansion into the Crimea has been met with barbarian resistance as could be expected. Soldiers from the colony report though, that these are slightly more organized barbarians...it seems a more advanced civilization is nearby.

Riketanel spreads throughout Northern Russia and Finland as many of the nearby countries dump thier old Polytheistic views for a much more enticing religion...and the ones that dont are just offended. Still, as Winterfell flourishes and expands, good relations are set up with the country of Suomi, a country that occupies much of Finnsland and boasts of a sizeable army. Tuetonia is not quite as nice, feeling somewhat threatened by the great Winterfell.

Winterfell discovers Iron.

Now back down to the Middle East. An explosion in trade and riches comes as much of the isolationist policies are forgotten and thrown away for a much more profitable open policy. Babylon has assimilated with the remaining Sumerian city states, making it the most cultural and rich of the Middle Eastern nations. Bactria grows to immense sizes, perhaps to large as several warlords lay claim to parts of the Empire, since the military is not large enough to control so much land. The new nation of Aden appears, and begins an immediate trade rivalry with Muscat. The Arabs have increased thier influence and are now 3 distinct groups (Sauds, Hedjaz, Omanese). Persia is considered by many historians of the age though, as the single most powerful state in the Middle East. Infact, a Persian-Babylonian war might be soon coming...

Egypt expands slowly, weary of the Hittites to the north and the Kushans to the south. The Pharoeh is unpopular and rumors run wild of a possible insurrection...

Sparta has been forced to retreat from much of thier conquests. This greatly angers the people, and some high-ranking Spartans are even calling King Menalaus a "spineless fool". War is all many Spartans know, and losing one or even tying one, is the worst thing that can happen to them.
(-1 confidence)

It seems Phoenicia was not entirely dead...those survivors that did not retreat to Cyprus seem to have found a way down all the way to the small island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania in Africa. Making an establishment which they call Carthage, the Phoenicians ended up blending cultures with the African natives nearby. The trade kingdom has already spread out from the initital island, expanding out along the coast. Somalis often trade with the Carthaginians, as do the Axumians, but they are farther away. Tanzania though, views the Carthaginians as an unpure mix of Africans and another race, frequently raiding nearby settlements.

Taiwan falls under the rule of the Tonsang Dynasty, a theocratic government that rules by the rule of the religious book, and very strictly. Taiwan has entered an era of isolationism, even as thier Taiwanian ways have spread to the mainland. Fuzhou is in many ways a much larger, more ambitious Taiwan.
(Taiwan: -entire navy)

The Shang make good on thier promise. Due to the Shu King not giving in to Shang land demands, the Shang army now marches into Shu to teach them a good lesson. The Shang army charged into the nearby Shu city, taking it within 2 days. This shocked the Shu army, which now mobilizes outside the city to retake it and turn the tide of the war.
(Shu:-150 spearmen, -40 archers)(Shang:-100 spearmen, -60 archers)

In somewhat better news for the Shu, the wonder of the world known as the Pagoda of Xian Feng is finished! It greatly increases the Shu spirit, which leads to great expansion and even some extra recruits for the war against the Shang.
(+50 spearmen, +50 archers)

The Mori make great strides in uniting Japan. Thier Blade warriors successfully assassinate several heirs to the Niigate Shogunate. This leads to a pre-emptive strike by the mentioned Niigate's, which is easily repelled. With no army power anymore to support thier clan, the Niigate's decide to join the Mori. 3 strong factions remain though, with Akita, Sapporo, Ainu, and Kyushu. It seems a civil war is inevitable, as several clans wheel and deal for alliances. Supposedly the Akita and Sapporo have agreed to ally in the event of war with the Mori...

Spotlight

"And a cosmopolitan Empire, that had mastered science, military, and trade, dissapeared in the wake of a phenomenon of the gods."- Plato, Athenian Historian

Atlantis certainly went out with a bang. It was a quite day that day in Atlantis Prime, people traded goods in the market and raucaus crowds gathered in the streets to watch a sword duel or a magic trick...the usual. But outside the city, a volcano brewed. It had brewed for thousands of years, its magma building up ever more....a ticking time bomb that the Atlanteans had no control over. And on that particular day of the year 1523 BC, it finally happened. But it wasnt just 1 volcano, for the island itself was a chain of volcanic reactions just waiting for that first explosion.

The volcano exploded, with the nearby towns and Atlantis Prime feeling it right away. Immedietly, the sky became dark as ash and smoke blocked out the sun. A rain of sulfuric acids and volcanic ash began shortly after that, incinerating those who did not seek shelter soon enough, and asphyxiating those who did not seek adequate enough shelter. The houses were not safe either, and fires broke out across the city. Structures fell, destroying more houses. But that was only the 1rst volcano.

More eruptions occurred, across the island, including 1 more, closer to Atlantis Prime. This one caused a massive earthquake in the city, that literally ripped the city in two. Buildings and people fell through the huge canyon created. Many people, well, the ones who werent dead, thought the gods had unleashed thier anger and fury at Atlantis. It was truly hell on earth as fire rained from the sky further north in Cierta. Earthquakes rumbled throughout the island. Within the month, Atlantis had inexplicably sunk. Entirely. But thier legacy was not gone.

Upon hearing the word of Atlantis' destruction, the two colonies at Tingis and Tartessos declared independance. One appears ready to carry on Atlantis' legacy, while the other has no choice but to accept thier new fate as Morrocans and Atlanteans...

Tartessos annexed several more Visigothian tribes, reforming its army much like that of Atlantis. They retained much of the culture, and even the traditional "Atlantean Blue" in uniforms and the cities. King Marcellus wants all of Iberia, saying it was the destiny of Atlantis.

Tingis began by working several deals with the Morroccans, blending in with them much like the Phoenicians did with the Africans. They are engaged in vicious battles with the Southern Morrocans, and rumors tell them of more people in the lands of Sahara and Mauritania...

**New Rule**

Now roads cost 1 economy, for 3 roads. Remember, roads are required for land trade routes, they drastically improve infrastructure and troop movement aswell.
