The Atlantean Fanatic
-History-
The Atlanteans are well known for their piety to their gods, the glorious Titans, gods of the natural world, and of the human element, gods whos nature, not denying the processes of natural science, gives a helping hand to science, and development of technology; and while scholars and scientists might be considered as Pius as any priest, there are men in Atlantis, fervent men, who heed the call of the Titans to a degree little else matched; these men are the "Fanaticii"(Fa-na-ti-kai);and have a very long history indeed.
When Atlantis was first being settled, the populace of Atlanteans (not to be confused with the Hesperides) was a fervently religious bunch; and before the great city's establishment, religion was all they had, but hardly all they needed, creating a desperate -and fervent- populace; it was from this religious fervor, that an answer to a pressing problem for the initial Atlanteans -the Hesperides- was first born from; that men, devoted to in our time infamous War Cults dedicated to one Titan or another sprang up, to defend the people against Hesperide incursions, to offer stability in the lives of Atlanteans, and in general, kick a lot of ass; the war cults were feared by Hesperides duelly enough, ferocious clashes took places, as copper sword beat upon copper shield, fighting, tooth and nail taking place; often times in the midst of thunder storms; a sign, for early Atlanteans in battle, that their gods; called "Titans" by others, favored them, in those drawn out, early years; ferocious battles took place, and slowly, the Atlantean war cults grew in fighting prowess, warriors honed and perfected, and loyal to their masters; masters who used the knowledge born of blood to train a new generation fo warriors, and duelly pass on the legacies left (OOC; not unlike eastern martial arts "temples", or the medieval knightlly orders, such as the infamous Templar order) with such training, each fighter newly trained better then those trained before him, it was not long before the tide of the hesperide conflict (and, to note, any conflict with Berbers, vandals or other threats that have ever reared their head at Atlantis) was defeated, and the initial homelands of the Atlantean city state firmly won, the central island being occupied by the cults of Atlas, Ouranos, and Saturnius, whos alliance signaled the initial foundation fo the city (to be a later story)
However, much feared by Hesperiades, or the other would be-threats to Atlantis that would one day develop, all was not well in the land of the Atlans; the war cults, wile wildly successful, were also wildly united, and it was only through a might heroic duel between the three leaders of the cults- in alliance that the great city came under firm central rule; indeed, many of the cults, in justification fo aiding to protect all Atlanteans, had carved out little fiefdoms, and ruled as warlords; a title most appropriate for their potions as masters of their particular war-cult; however, while mighty and heroic, the war-cults never claimed to be the, at least not most of them, to be the icons of virtue; and indeed, it was not long after the establishment fo the little war-lord chiefdoms that sporadic fighting broke and rival cults battled each other with intense ferocity in this early age of copper, and
bloody battles still remembered today by the populace in tales and legends took place, and in this time of ferocity battles, many battles, fought against Atlantean and Hesperide, and anyone else who challenged the cults alike took place, and through these never ending wars, the cults, surprisingly quickly, perfected the berserk-like fighting single style the Atlantean war-cults are made infamous for, as well as their amazing versatility to "meld" into a formation, like a school of fish (a maneuver originally perfected by the cult of Oceanus it should be added) and fight in a ridged and well formed battle-line and formations.
During this time of true perfection, not only were the battle tactics for the fanatical war cults master-smithed, as it were, but so were training techniques; constant improvement, and evolution of fighting and training techniques, meant that veterans had a plethora of experience on the battlefield, and made some fo the best teachers for any young initiates into a cult; that granted, it wasnt at all long before a few then; then some, and eventually, all fo the cults began making duties for the experienced veternas, meant that youn intiates, taken between the ages of 17 and around 27, had the great advantage of learined was was most currentlly effective on the battlefeild, and drilled by skilled veterans of recent conflict; the cults, masterd by the most venerable, and most skille dof all the warriors was the great war-master of each cult, and a source of pride; they rarelly needed to take thier personal prescense on the battlefield, and when they did, the fantics fought even harder then they could in the dreams of thier enemies- or rather, thier nightmares; this centrlization of command, yet allowence for personal honour, the importance fo fightign as a group; yet stressign of personal fightign skills and fitness are some of the greatest stregths and assests of an Atlantean "Fanticii", and are the source of thie rmight; for each man is himself a mighty warrior, yet defends his homland and familly with pride, and fights along his brethren with the stregth and honour befit the Titans themselves! This makes them not only might warriors- but also mighty
soldiers
Obviously, the intial threat to Atlantean stability was quite great- the Hesperides had never come close as to offering a significant a threat as the presented by the Atlanteans themselves, and great violence ensued- the war cults were, one by one, brought under the banner of Atlantis- a city founded by the alliance, and then combining of three of the greater war cults of the land; bloody battles took place, and yet, much blood was sparred; conflicts between cults had been bloody, and, the War-masters, while bloody, were not unwise; it defeated the purpose to be of thier very cults while killing the very people they were supposed to help protect; and yet honor could no be duely disgraced! While several notable battles, and many bloody skirmished filled this dark time, the most notable way of settling the "cult wars" as they were known, was a heroic duel- a heroic duel between the very leaders of each cult, the most skilled, and the most honored men of each cult; bloody, and log lasting, the defeated cult joined the victors cult, adding yet more soldiers, and more importantly, more battle experience, more trainers, and new tactics to the victorious cult(s).
This period lasted for about 50 years; the "High Cult" as was known the cult based in Atlantis soon united all of the one warring cults; surprisingly, not all through war, or heroic battle; many a leader was wise enough to see that unification was needed, and beneficial, and in so joined the great cult of Atlantis before war was ever declared, by the 50th year, any remaining summarily joined together, sent envoys, and declared their own joining fo the greater cult; a surprisingly peaceful end to a very bloody period of Atlantean history; the joining fo the cults under the singular banner fo Atlantis meant that a verity of fighting schools and techniques are known by the Atlantean war-cults, and the peaceful joining meant that the cults now joined, were at a peak unseen before, with access to a wide verity of tactics, training styles, and unique fighting techniques; of interest, is that by this time, the equipment that so distinguished a fanatic, had become surprisingly standardized;
Equipment
-Protective and stylistic helm gives a huge amount go protection without hindering the senses
-arm and leg armor protects the advancing leg, and the weapon holding arm; meaning what faces the enemy, and is most likely to be cut is protected, while other wise minimizing weight, giving the Fanatic more freedom to move, fight, and use his skills
-domed shield more strong then a flat shield
-huge, serrated cleaver; -the Atlantean Cutlas- can cut through even a very heavily armored man in a single blow to his mid section
BASIC (as in mere standard, not the time honoured, well trained stuff)fighting style
the Fanatics are a form of heavy infantry, or perhaps medium infantry- well armored and protected from harm, they are armored in a particular fashion, so to offer a huge amount of protection, and yet give them a freedom of mobility to use their training-perfected fighting techniques; yet for all the emphasis put onto individual fighting skills, and physical fitness and strength, the warriors have little problem operating in more organized fashions, shield to shield, creating impenetrable walls of metal; indeed, fighters can easily reach their peak when working in as part of a larger group, and are perfectly at home as part of a mighty formation of men, marching in their firmness towards an onslaught to slaughter their enemies, as small squads of troops for skirmishing, or even guerilla style tactics, or, as even fighting all alone in short, the Atlantean fanatic is not only amongst the best (if not the best) of warriors and soldiers in all the lands, but has an already long, and glorious history of serving Atlantis, kicking ass, and honing their skills to perfection, to meet an enemy whom would rear its head not only with bravery and resolve- but devastating weaponry, tactics, and champion fighting skill
