staznesV: Gateway to an Alternate World

And the fact that he's shouting nonsense.

!!!

"...Once, Huong ten-San saw one of his warriors yell drunkedly at the village, claiming that there was someone pretending to be him and also noticed that this warrior had two left ears... and five right ears. Realizing that this was a demon-changeling, and a very stupid one at that, Huong ten-San took out his mighty spear, impaled the demon-changeling, and made a nice cup out of his scull, out of which he drank rice vodka ever since, and it gave him much strenght."

Now thats just frivilous. :p

Songbirds cried out, rabbits fled, and wolves cowered.....

The Druid had caught a beast, a deamon of the world. He held it as it struggled over the altar. Its form twisting and changing, Chaos. But the Druid attuned to Nature would not be detered. The Knife came down, The Druid handeled it like a writer handled prose, with grace and beauty. Blood gushed out and yet the altar could not be quenched of its thirst.

When at last the flow of blood, faltered and stopped. Nature resumed its balance, The songbirds sang again, The rabbits bred and the wolves hunted. As the beast which had just bled, was dead.

I really need more practice at this stuff...

"...Once, a traveller came to Huong-li and sang many songs. Huong ten-San heard those songs, but none of them he understood, though they were sung in Taiwanese. One song was about a druid who killed a demon and sacrificed him at the altar. Huong ten-San was touched, though not quite understanding what exactly was the idea, the morale of this song, and so he ordered that the traveller be captured and tortured until he confesses what it was."

OOC; I'm sick of tiny little stories and fabels (no offence Das, soem of them are quite nice really :D, but the sheer volume of littl eposts with little fables sucks; try writing a bunch of them together, in oen post, like a book or somthing of them)

I'll think I'll write my own story, either about the kick ass Atlantean UU I plan to set up, or about the Atlantean Pantheon of Gods

The Atlantean Fanatic

-History-
The Atlanteans are well known for their piety to their gods, the glorious Titans, gods of the natural world, and of the human element, gods who’s nature, not denying the processes of natural science, gives a helping hand to science, and development of technology; and while scholars and scientists might be considered as Pius as any priest, there are men in Atlantis, fervent men, who heed the call of the Titans to a degree little else matched; these men are the "Fanaticii"(Fa-na-ti-kai);and have a very long history indeed.

When Atlantis was first being settled, the populace of Atlanteans (not to be confused with the Hesperides) was a fervently religious bunch; and before the great city's establishment, religion was all they had, but hardly all they needed, creating a desperate -and fervent- populace; it was from this religious fervor, that an answer to a pressing problem for the initial Atlanteans -the Hesperides- was first born from; that men, devoted to in our time infamous War Cults dedicated to one Titan or another sprang up, to defend the people against Hesperide incursions, to offer stability in the lives of Atlanteans, and in general, kick a lot of ass; the war cults were feared by Hesperides duelly enough, ferocious clashes took places, as copper sword beat upon copper shield, fighting, tooth and nail taking place; often times in the midst of thunder storms; a sign, for early Atlanteans in battle, that their gods; called "Titans" by others, favored them, in those drawn out, early years; ferocious battles took place, and slowly, the Atlantean war cults grew in fighting prowess, warriors honed and perfected, and loyal to their masters; masters who used the knowledge born of blood to train a new generation fo warriors, and duelly pass on the legacies left (OOC; not unlike eastern martial arts "temples", or the medieval knightlly orders, such as the infamous Templar order) with such training, each fighter newly trained better then those trained before him, it was not long before the tide of the hesperide conflict (and, to note, any conflict with Berbers, vandals or other threats that have ever reared their head at Atlantis) was defeated, and the initial homelands of the Atlantean city state firmly won, the central island being occupied by the cults of Atlas, Ouranos, and Saturnius, who’s alliance signaled the initial foundation fo the city (to be a later story)

However, much feared by Hesperiades, or the other would be-threats to Atlantis that would one day develop, all was not well in the land of the Atlans; the war cults, wile wildly successful, were also wildly united, and it was only through a might heroic duel between the three leaders of the cults- in alliance that the great city came under firm central rule; indeed, many of the cults, in justification fo aiding to protect all Atlanteans, had carved out little fiefdoms, and ruled as warlords; a title most appropriate for their potions as masters of their particular war-cult; however, while mighty and heroic, the war-cults never claimed to be the, at least not most of them, to be the icons of virtue; and indeed, it was not long after the establishment fo the little war-lord chiefdoms that sporadic fighting broke and rival cults battled each other with intense ferocity in this early age of copper, and
bloody battles still remembered today by the populace in tales and legends took place, and in this time of ferocity battles, many battles, fought against Atlantean and Hesperide, and anyone else who challenged the cults alike took place, and through these never ending wars, the cults, surprisingly quickly, perfected the berserk-like fighting single style the Atlantean war-cults are made infamous for, as well as their amazing versatility to "meld" into a formation, like a school of fish (a maneuver originally perfected by the cult of Oceanus it should be added) and fight in a ridged and well formed battle-line and formations.

During this time of true perfection, not only were the battle tactics for the fanatical war cults master-smithed, as it were, but so were training techniques; constant improvement, and evolution of fighting and training techniques, meant that veterans had a plethora of experience on the battlefield, and made some fo the best teachers for any young initiates into a cult; that granted, it wasn’t at all long before a few then; then some, and eventually, all fo the cults began making duties for the experienced veternas, meant that youn intiates, taken between the ages of 17 and around 27, had the great advantage of learined was was most currentlly effective on the battlefeild, and drilled by skilled veterans of recent conflict; the cults, masterd by the most venerable, and most skille dof all the warriors was the great war-master of each cult, and a source of pride; they rarelly needed to take thier personal prescense on the battlefield, and when they did, the fantics fought even harder then they could in the dreams of thier enemies- or rather, thier nightmares; this centrlization of command, yet allowence for personal honour, the importance fo fightign as a group; yet stressign of personal fightign skills and fitness are some of the greatest stregths and assests of an Atlantean "Fanticii", and are the source of thie rmight; for each man is himself a mighty warrior, yet defends his homland and familly with pride, and fights along his brethren with the stregth and honour befit the Titans themselves! This makes them not only might warriors- but also mighty soldiers

Obviously, the intial threat to Atlantean stability was quite great- the Hesperides had never come close as to offering a significant a threat as the presented by the Atlanteans themselves, and great violence ensued- the war cults were, one by one, brought under the banner of Atlantis- a city founded by the alliance, and then combining of three of the greater war cults of the land; bloody battles took place, and yet, much blood was sparred; conflicts between cults had been bloody, and, the War-masters, while bloody, were not unwise; it defeated the purpose to be of thier very cults while killing the very people they were supposed to help protect; and yet honor could no be duely disgraced! While several notable battles, and many bloody skirmished filled this dark time, the most notable way of settling the "cult wars" as they were known, was a heroic duel- a heroic duel between the very leaders of each cult, the most skilled, and the most honored men of each cult; bloody, and log lasting, the defeated cult joined the victors cult, adding yet more soldiers, and more importantly, more battle experience, more trainers, and new tactics to the victorious cult(s).

This period lasted for about 50 years; the "High Cult" as was known the cult based in Atlantis soon united all of the one warring cults; surprisingly, not all through war, or heroic battle; many a leader was wise enough to see that unification was needed, and beneficial, and in so joined the great cult of Atlantis before war was ever declared, by the 50th year, any remaining summarily joined together, sent envoys, and declared their own joining fo the greater cult; a surprisingly peaceful end to a very bloody period of Atlantean history; the joining fo the cults under the singular banner fo Atlantis meant that a verity of fighting schools and techniques are known by the Atlantean war-cults, and the peaceful joining meant that the cults now joined, were at a peak unseen before, with access to a wide verity of tactics, training styles, and unique fighting techniques; of interest, is that by this time, the equipment that so distinguished a fanatic, had become surprisingly standardized;

Equipment
dervish1stincarnation4oa.png

-Protective and stylistic helm gives a huge amount go protection without hindering the senses
-arm and leg armor protects the advancing leg, and the weapon holding arm; meaning what faces the enemy, and is most likely to be cut is protected, while other wise minimizing weight, giving the Fanatic more freedom to move, fight, and use his skills
-domed shield more strong then a flat shield
-huge, serrated cleaver; -the Atlantean Cutlas- can cut through even a very heavily armored man in a single blow to his mid section

BASIC (as in mere standard, not the time honoured, well trained stuff)fighting style
the Fanatics are a form of heavy infantry, or perhaps medium infantry- well armored and protected from harm, they are armored in a particular fashion, so to offer a huge amount of protection, and yet give them a freedom of mobility to use their training-perfected fighting techniques; yet for all the emphasis put onto individual fighting skills, and physical fitness and strength, the warriors have little problem operating in more organized fashions, shield to shield, creating impenetrable walls of metal; indeed, fighters can easily reach their peak when working in as part of a larger group, and are perfectly at home as part of a mighty formation of men, marching in their firmness towards an onslaught to slaughter their enemies, as small squads of troops for skirmishing, or even guerilla style tactics, or, as even fighting all alone in short, the Atlantean fanatic is not only amongst the best (if not the best) of warriors and soldiers in all the lands, but has an already long, and glorious history of serving Atlantis, kicking ass, and honing their skills to perfection, to meet an enemy whom would rear its head not only with bravery and resolve- but devastating weaponry, tactics, and champion fighting skill

well, with such a megalithic meat-lceaver fo a sword, even if my UU wasnt the Atlantean equivilent of samurai, crusader, and the The Rock combined training and skill wise, I'd still put my money on my UU; one good swipe from that thing, and your gone (any one whos hefted a real sword, and used it a bit will know what I mean)

anyway, Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed it:)

A bit unrealistic and overpowered then wouldn't you think? No one has the technology to make katanas in this age. You can have a big of a sword as you want, you're just going to be slow in swinging and an easy target.

A)look at the picture- it aint no katana, and it isnt going to be

B)you obviouslyl have never used a sword- the heavyier it is- assumign your in shape enough to use it properlly- swings faster due to weight; the sam principles that allow a wieghted rope to swing fast when twirled apply here, just not quite as obviouslly; good swordmen know how to make use of centripitle force, and other natural effects of gravity and nature at owrk on thier weapons work from them just as much as reguler trianign aloows them to know the weak points ona human body

C)because the sword is big heavy, and fast, the inertia gained on the swing multiplies the very force used by the fighter swinging it; making the weapon more effective; it dosent have to be well forged; it dosent even have to sharp; maces and axes are quite; in soem cases far more- deadlly then swords because they are, generally, better designed to harness this principle

Why are we arguing about physics in the Never-Ending Stories forum?

Will post a UU after update, need to find a picture of a hoplite.

because; hes calling my UU unfair because of it; I'll admit; I made my UU to be one of the top contenders; but thats because I like having top-class troops, rather then number heavy troops (though my exact favorite is to have high number sof top-quality troops ;)) and to that end, my UU is extreamlyl effective; but then I've reserched the topic, and have more then a little of my own personal experience to draw upon when drafting this UU; and I'm proud of the result, and will thus defend it.

I obviously have used a sword. The heavier it is the stronger the force, but the harder it is to control. Especially considering how bulky and straight that sword is. You can swing as hard as you want and have the force multiplied as much as you want, but if you don't hit on the first swing, you're going to die going against someone with a faster weapon considering that your sword is so big and bulky. And as I said, arrows will be the end of your troops, considering they're not very well armored (no chest gear).

1)Obviouslly, you havent use one enough; apperntlly, yout just standign still while using it! I make a good deal about the adept traingin that such a UU requires, and has; its because i avoide the prediciment you set up entirelly, and support a more middle eastern school of fighting, that fo the Dervish, or :WHilwind", and thats exactley the sort fo tactic that woudl work here; put enough force into your swing, and you twirl right along with it; train enough, and you can control your spin, to create a graceful- but deadlly- calculated manuver; all of this allows for the sheer force of what you would have blowswinging you right around, allowing for yet another oppertunity for a blow

2)apperentlly, you forget that I try at least, to stress the poitn that these arny your average soldires, pressed into service, or joined up voluntarilyl, givien a few months traingin, and then sent out to try to do buisness; these are people whom are devotelly zealous to thier religion, and have entered upon a lifestyle of triangin and dedicataion to serve thier gods with a holy vigour,l and do not spend weeks, or months trianign, but years perfecting thier craft.

3)moreover, you seem to ignor that the left face of the fighter is fully armours with Greave, foot place, medium sheild, and helmet, and the advancign right arm is firmllt guarded in and of itself, and abdominal armour finishes off the compliment; while i admit, chest armour coudl be more coming, a skilled fighter wotn need much more then present to present a firm danger to his enemies, and not have to worry about glancing blows; his most vulnerabel areas are nicelly protected

4)as skilled as each of thes eindividual fighter are, and ar emeant to be and live up to, team work is an essentiall part fo the theoretical battle doctrine for thsi theoretical trooper; heoric duels are nice, and wonderful; but these guys are meant for buisness, first and formost, and if a comrade is in need, back up shall be present.

5)if you look at the design fo the sword, thier a plethora of actual "manuvers" for lack of a better term at the moment, that you can acomplish with it, and I quite honestlyl wished such swords were real- or at least commonlly made, as now-a-days it woudl probabley horrendus to have it custom-forged (but one never knows, really)

Sorry I'm late.

Orders
-increase education
-expand northward, do not expand into areas already occupied by barbarians. Send 100 spearmen and 50 archers north to defend the new towns
-send 10 galleys 100 spearmen and 50 archers with settlers to scout along the coasts

UU
Axe Throwers: Heavy infantry, equipped with throwing axes and a short sword. Good vs. spearmen, bad vs. archers

This was a fun start, but I have no time.....

An Old Spartan Tale:

A Spartiate was walking through the fields of Laconia and spotted a Helot, carrying his harvest of grain back to Sparta. The Helot was staggering under the weight of the grain, enough to load a donkey. The Spartiate initially gave this no thought, as it was merely a Helot, and worthy of little consideration. However, as the two walked toward the city of Sparta side by side, the Helot seemed to have more and more of a problem carrying the huge weight of the grain.
The Spartiate was about to offer help when a Barbarian leaped out of the tall grass and brandished his axe. The Spartiate, weaponless, was about to beg for mercy when the Helot finally dropped his load-on the Barbarian, whose lungs were crushed by the weight. As the Barbarian died, the Spartiate, relieved at not having to help the Helot, took the Barbarian's axe and slew the Helot for dropping his load of grain.

Hehe time thingo wasnt showing right for me sorry about tat.. bet its been more than an hour now.

Stop fighting over UU's the mod will make sure Xens is not overtly godlike and doesnt destroy everything instantly im sure. Still trying to come up with a UU for bronze weapons.... Hmm a specially trained animal makes sense...
