Why is Denmark an emo kid?

 You are ridiculously bad.

What's wrong with that post? There is Anime that's more adult-oriented than children-oriented.

Isn't Steampunk essentially the World as it was around 1910? I mean, the culture was still Victorianesque, yet there was also advanced technology like cars, electricity, airplanes, zeppelins, massive steamships, proto-computers, subs, super-destructive weapons, recorded music, wireless communication, and primitive films and radio. There weren't any steampower jetpacks, though.

Fine, I like diesel and atompunk then.

I am really fond of Dieselpunk. I have some short stories and what not I wrote for a creative writing class, I can dig it.

It's more like the mid to late Victorian era as pictured by fiction writers of the time. They just happen to make a lot of accurate predictions about the future.

The Rocketeer FTW

I like the style of that era (or fantasy) but don't want to lose the modern age's advances

I saw some 20 year olds wearing stuff like this the last time I was in London - it was only because of this thread I recognized it.

Steampunk is ok. I like some alternate-tech now and then, but I don't really get the cosplay stuff.

What if it incorporated not only steampunk, but also fantasy and magic? Would you be more interested?

I'm reading an RPG like that at the moment called Victoriana. To be honest its not true steampunk at all, but there is a little bit of alternate tech in it, like airships and clockwork monsters, etc.

The fantasy stuff in it is more prevalent than the alternate tech. There's a bit of magic, and there are fantasy races too. There's a lot of emphasis on class, with many of the races falling into particular classes. Eldren (elves) are often upper class, while ogres and beastmen are usually confined to the lower class.

Its not my usual choice of game, but I noticed that they're making a War of the Worlds campaign book for it (delayed, apparently).

Steampunk isn't that bad, but generaly most of it is complete crap.
My two favorite anime movies are Steamboy and Castle in the Sky, both steampunk. (Castle in the Sky isn't really steampunk, but it has many similar qualities.)
It can also be quite amusing at times, especialy Harry Harrisons 'A Transatlantic Railroad. Hurrah!'. Basicaly Britian won the American Revolution and now (its mid 20th century, but still basicaly Victorian) they are still using Babbage Engines but have nuclear powered steam engines, all wrapped up in Victorian world views. Its quite a hilarious light read. (Like most Harrison stuff is.)

So like all things: Good in moderation.

EDIT: I wonder, would Fritz Langs Metropolis be considered Steampunk? Here is a link check the film out:

The youtube clips are in the second post.

I don't really pay much attention to the anime/comics generated in this style. Its when people bring it into real life it excites me.

<snip>

I still think some of the various media in this thread is kinda neat, Steampunk can be all right in some well-done things I know about but I wouldn't say the whole genre really makes me enthused)
