stJNESX: From Bad to Good

@jason: There were both. As described in my first story (looks like it was a bit confusing) at first there were Poenicia, Mycenea and Egypt fighting for control over Cyprus. Then the Hittites invaded Canaan/Poenicia (as described in das´s story) and took over their part of Cyprus. Then Mycenea, Egypt and Hittite battled over Cyprus until an earthquake "united" them.

Post 100#! 900+ to come!

EDIT: I though 100+1= 100? damn.

Why thank you Amirsan.

I believe I am missing orders from:

Athens - Matty
Canaan - das
Celts - alex994
Siam - Aaminion00

I am beginning update now, but probably won't finish it until tonight. I might though. So if one of your are on, get them in if you want to do something this turn.

OOC: Do I have contact with Cyprus?

I plan to set a "book" in this setting eventually, once Canaan is more or less established. I hope I don't forget.

IC:

Though the kings and queens of the many kingdoms within Canaan were an important voice, the priests of Baal were even more important. Not much was known about them, and ordinary people were afraid to even think of them. However they were seen as a benevolent force, for they served the Gods, who were all the many faces of Baal. Though many people still believed in many gods, and Polytheism was the official state religion, Baalism was the religion of the priests, who were the wise advisors of the King. The priests also had their own language, the Val-Ez.

But more would be told about the priests later. All that must be known of them now is that they handed Hasilis a sword.

Swords were not very widespread in Canaan, though smiths could construct copper and bronze swords. King's guards had such swords. But the sword that Hasilis had received from the priests, the Kara Baali, was made of a strange, strong metal that could cut through bronze as if through paper. This sword became the symbol of royal power in Canaan.

This sword was passed from generation to generation.

After this sword rallied the kings and queens and their armies.

This sword saw victory and defeat.

It led the warriors into battle.

It became at one with Hasilis himself.

It was The Sword of Baal, the Kara Baali.

The Sword of Baal, the Sword of Lord, and Hasilis became Lord of Kings, Queens, Merchants, Peasants, Nobles, Warriors, Scholars and Sailors.

But not Lord of Priests...

Orders:
- Send a diplomatic mission of five Galleys to Cyprus. Find out what kind of people live there, and how do they live, and who rules them. Convey them the message of friendship, and establish an embassy there.
- TRY TO MAKE SPEARS!
- Grow the amount of UUs once.
- Start wonder - Myth of Kara Baali (drastically increases morale, +1 Confidence, +2 Culture, gives random increase of the army)
- 100 Clubmen are to expand our territory south, into the barren desert of Negev, in search of better land to the south. Found the city of Eilat. If you don't know where it is, ask me or Erez.
- 200 Clubmen, 100 Archers are to expand to the north, into Syria. Beware of Hittites. Try to find the mythical "Mesopatamia".
- 100 Clubmen are to expand to the east, into Transjordan.
- 100 Clubmen are to fool around in... I mean, are to defend Jericho, our capital. BTW it should be alittle to the east, not on the sea coast.

Celtic Orders
-Increase economy by encouraging farming
-Have 250 Clubmen expand in Iberia by trying to impress the natives
-Have 250 Clubmen on 5 galleys try to reach any lands by sailing south

Events:

The battle between Sparta and the invading Minoans

Pressed to expand further then the small island of Crete, the Minoans embark on two expeditionary travels. Being very educated seafarers, the Minoans are able to utilize the sail upon the galleys, which hold nearly twenty people, but because of the speed (and the amount of trips that can be made in 100 years, lol), the Minoans are able to move entire families to the newly established city of Iraklion on the Anatolian coast. Because of the magnificent wealth of this city, it attracts the constant attention of nomad barbarians of the Anatolian countryside. For this, the city commissions its own army of spearmen to guard it along with the Minoan clubmen (+200 spearmen). The second expedition is one of war and conquest. The newly equipped army landed near Calamata, in southern Sparta, just a couple hours walk from the legendary city itself. The army, though, attracted the attention of many Spartan civilians, and because it took numerous journeys back and forth to bring the full Minoan army, the Spartans had a chance to muster their troops. The battle occurred on the way from Calamata to Sparta, where the Spartan army met with the Minoans. It was a quick battle, the Spartans were well prepared, more numerical, and had the advantage of defense. The Minoans were fought back, and finally pushed off Sparta.

A Cypriot expedition finds the island of Crete, land of the Minoans. The expedition was full of soldiers. The soldiers landed, and the battle for Crete begins between the militia and the Cypriot soldiers, and more arrive every week. The island is soon conquered, as the rest of the army Minoan army is gone, and the fate of the Minoans is very serious.

longboat1.jpg

A Hanseatic Longboat, capable of the largest load and farthest journeys.

The Hanseatics, not content with the land allotted to them, decide to go forth and conquer the “wretched” Celts that still wonder their borders. The army is led by Leif Kohen himself, leader of the tribal council, to the southeast where the Celts are hunted and captured like animals. They are then sold into slavery, working the farms of mines of the Hanseatic League. This free labor helps many people rest and develop the culture of the nation, while also stimulating the economy with free labor and slave trade (+ Culture). Meanwhile, longboats are constructed that are capable of sailing farther and with more cargo then any other ship in the world. Utilizing this technology, the Hanseatics settle the city of Farfund in the north.

Conquering the northern territories, the Angle-Saxonians run into a raiding Pict army, where a small skirmish occurs. The Picts are hopelessly slaughtered by the more highly trained and obedient Angle-Saxonian army. However, the angry warlord, commander of the Angle-Saxonian army, decides to take his army to pursue the fleeing Picts into their territory. Mountainous as it is, the army was rarely out of battle and surprised from ambushes. Finally the army was defeated, and the warlord slaughtered.

The Novgorodians decide to steer away from warfare and concentrate more on wealth and trade. The Great Marketplace is commissioned for growth in the capital, hopefully to create more trade throughout the region, which is sorely lacking in it.

The Gujarati, utilizing their newfound ability to create offensive wars, decide to take more of the important Indus river valley, which now holds the majority of the population of Gujarat. However, there are many Indus tribes that still inhabit the river valley, and are obviously in the way of Gujarati prosperity, and so they, comments a prince, they must be destroyed. The same prince led his army to victory over many minor tribes in the area and has fully conquered the southern parts of valley, but at a cost of manpower. The area, which is rich in population, minerals, and land, greatly boosts the Gujarati economy (+1 economy).

New Taikir experiences the first dynastic reign of the millennium, and the first great dynasty of the country, the Chu Fri family. Because of the greatness of this family, and because of all that it has done already, in the first few emperors, a memorial has been designed to be built. Also, a great banquet is thrown by Gara Chu Fri with the King of Austria as a guest. This has greatly improved the relations between the two countries, and the Danube has now turned into a highway of trade and travelers.

Gaulish settlers, following the army, expand into the north through conquest of the minor Celtic tribes here, and some awkward blonde-haired and blue eyed tribes that call themselves the Normans. The Normans are quite the fighters, and cause many Gaulish deaths. In the south, the Pyrenees Mountains stop settlers from expanding anymore south.

Roman farmland has begun to be built around the city of Rome in an extraordinary fashion. The farmland is so dense that it requires a form of organization that is unheard of anywhere else in the world, and requires much math, and even more important: a way to record and write down records. Writing, in the form of Latin letters and words based upon numbers, is formed in the city of Rome. Meanwhile, the colony of Palmero is founded on the coast of a southern island discovered by Roman sailors, but many people still prefer the city of Rome and the villages the surround it.

A Canaanite galley is greatly welcomed as it reaches the shores of Cyprus.

A Canaanite envoy has reached Cyprus, establishing contacts between the people of Cyprus and the Canaanites. Meanwhile, back in the mainland, the Canaanites experience a great spurt of power as many victories are won over the minor city-states of the north. The official border of Canaan now reaches the famed Euphrates River, but also this means a border has been established with the Hittites and Assyrians, two very war-like people. However, all intentions have been good towards the people of Canaan, and no hostilities have risen. Meanwhile, expansion is stopped in the south, as the town of Elat has been established and many would rather live here then in the deserts of the Sinai.

OOC

I write about your nation only if there is something interesting to write about. So do not expect something on your nation every time.

Make sure you tell me what your increase in your army when you want to increase it. I don’t know what you want when you say “increase army.”

Das, you already can make spearmen. And wonders are not like projects of the JNES.N series, they give you a one time bonus when finished. Also, you cannot increase confidence in anyway except by writing stories.

The picture of the Canaanite galley shows a greatly exaggerated galley. At this age, that is the shape and layout of the galley, but is about a quarter of the size, lol. I just couldn’t find any other good picture.

Gah! I've been conquered? Never!

To Cyprus

You shall pay!

OOC: Can't make conquering Sparta easy can ya? Crap.

Siam - 1900 b.c.e.

Sira mumbled the prayers under his breat, slowly moving the counting beads through the palm of his hands. Each had nine orbs, representing the nine months, which in turn represented the nine deities. On the right the orbs were of pure gold, a gift from the emperor, signifying the good half of the gods. Through his left hand ran a stream of pitch black orbs, representing the sadistic side of the gods. In front of Sura sat the statue of Anayna, patron goddess of Ayatthuya, and of wisdom, planning, and government.

The temple Sira was in wasn't very large, like the temple to Qen-La in Bangkok where the peasentry lived, or as majestic as the royal temple of the Mongkut family, filled with precious gems and built out of beautifully crafted stone. His was a tiny wooden structure with a stone foundation, built on an island in the part of the local river that ran through the Mongkut royal grounds in Ayyathuya. Sira was the 7th in a line of royal monks. Some two hundred years ago, an ancestor of his had provided a service to the King Mongkut for which the latter repayed him by making him and his descendants official channels to the gods for the royalty.

It was a nice life. Ayyathuya was a small city, or rather a palace complex. It consisted of the enormous castle of the Mongkuts, which was surrounded by an immense graden, which in turn was surrounded by a great wall. Throughout the garden, there were waterfalls and trees, along with occasional buildings. For among the royal family itself, there stayed in Ayyathuya all of it's servants, from the monks to the cooks to the guard to the advisors. It was the royal city, it was the official capital.

For now, Siam was not very large. It consisted of Ayatthuya, and a good bit of lands in all directions. That was about it. There was even no need to split it up into provinces, for the territory was so small that it could effectively be managed by a single government. But this would not last for long, Sira was sure. Always in his recent talks to the King, the tiny state of Mekong would come up. Always. He was sure, Mongkut had his eye on the kingdom, and he wanted to subjugate it as a province under his crown. Well, the time would come soon enough. In the meanwhile, Sira continued to pray to Anayna, hopiong for a quick resolution to whatever conflicts lay ahead.

-Amen, your gonna land your army first, arent you? :). And I would do orders by PM when you're in a war with another player.

-For those who did not send orders, I increased your economy and expanded. I will not do it again.

- New wonder, Great Walls of Bangkok, double army
- Increase army twice (archers)
- Sneak attack Mekong from the North. Since they're likely to expand in that area, cut off their armies from their homeland and then take advantage of their lack of supplies.
- Have the peasentry build up roads and fortifications on the Western border
- Important: start researching how to construct catapults.

Josef, you know only of Picts. Archers use bow and arrow, clubmen use....clubs. Read the update part about Minoan invasion of Sparta and you will understand transportation.

@Jason

Check your PM Box

ORDERS:
Increase economy by putting our Chinese Farmers to work.
Start Wonder: Forbidden Palace (+3 Economy) 1/4?
Expand through the river on both sides, river expansion always proves to be fast.
Try to reach the western nation and the east coast with the river. Expand north with 50-100 men and try and contact Koreans.

OOC: What I meant about random army increase is that when the wonder is finished, I get some extra troops who joined as volunteers due to that really cool sword of ours.

Questions about trade - can we start it in Bronze Age, and how much does it cost?

IC:

Hasilis had a dream. A dream in which he saw many armies clash for the domination of Asia. Chariots, clubmen, spearmen, archers - all clashed by the will of their kings, and fought, and burned, and pillaged, and killed - and died.

It was a prophetic dream. Asia, all of the known world, will be at war. The dream's meaning was simple. There will be battles no matter what Canaan does. But it can only survive and rise to greatness if it participates in wars and battles. Canaan needs an army. A great army, a strong army. Phoenicean spearmen, Canaanite archers, Hyksos chariot riders, Amalek clubmen, Hittite shortswordsmen... This was the Asian destiny.

The myths spoke that each kingdom of Asia has a ruler, and each ruler has a weapon. Canaan had Hasilis, and Hasilis had Kara Baali. And it will go down in history.

Diplo:

Greetings! We hear that your island is populated by many peoples from many lands, and some of them are Hittites that came from here. The histories of our countries are interconnected. Let there be much friendship between us all. I propose trade!
