WORLD NEWS UPDATE 5 - SEPTEMBER 1901

Ural War
The Russian-and-allied offensive into the Mongol Empire continues. The huge amounts of armies overwhelm the Mongol forces and an entire depot of Artilleries is destroyed by the Russian forces. The Russians penetrate deep into Mongolia past the old border, but they begin encountering heavy civilian resistance, which grows fiercer and stronger from west to east. The Tatar Nationalist League forms in the occupied areas to drive the Russians out of Tatar lands. At the same time, however, the TLL has shown hostility towards the authoritarian regime in Ulaan Baatar and has shown aggressive tendencies toward monarchists and non-Tatars alike. Several small Uzbek villages and their Uzbek inhabitants were seized and burned down by roving bands of Mongols waving banners of the TLL.

Meanwhile, in Kazakhstan, the political and military situation is less stable than it appeared to be when the Socialist Republic was established. Many Kazakh homes are pounded with pro-Democrat and anti-communist propaganda through radios and numerous small demonstrations. The Socialist authorities in Astrakhan have begun to issue warrants for anyone seen distributing any Democrat leaflets throughout Kazakhstan. Within the capital itself, Democrats and suspected Democrats are being subjected to constant and unrelentless witchhunts not only by the communist regime itself but by the people of Astrakhan who wish for Socialism to lead them through this uncertain period. While the political cauldron is boiling throughout Kazakhstan, the Russian and Kazakh Armies are engaging the troubled Mongols in southern Kazakhstan who are dealing with enormous unrest from Kazakhs as well as the new revolutions in the Central Asian Turkic provinces. In most fronts the Mongols are either hopelessly defeated or forced into hasty retreats as the liberation of Kazakhstan is very successful.

In the Central Asian provinces of the Mongol Empire, the troops have been diverted from the fronts by their commanders to crush the nationalist uprisings. However, these troops are having a hard time with the insurrections and are very easily overwhelmed by the many mobs and many flee the rebelling areas for the safety of Mongolia. The nationalist uprisings are encouraged by an unknown hand and spread into the more assimilated Uzbek territories (just south of the site of the TLL anti-Uzbek attacks) as well, though there they have less fire than in the core centers of the communist revolution in Tashkent, Bishkek, and Dushanbe.

On the Eastern Front, the war rages on with more heavy casualties in the Manchurian province. Trenches are dug by both sides and the war of attrition continues with a front that continues shifting back and forth with the balance of power swinging violently back and forth. The constant trench-fighting is taking a toll most heavily on the Korean Army which is already very small and is now only a skeleton of what it used to be. In a state of near panic, the Korean government has encouraged the Manchurian leaders to begin organizing an independent government and their own army but the Manchurian leading politicians - primarily descendants of the old Aristocracy that ruled the country prior to the democratic reforms decades ago - are quarreling about what the structure and form of government Manchuria should take on. Indecision is only bringing hesitation and distrust among the Manchurian lower classes, however, who doubt the potency of their politicians to take charge of the situation.

Mongolia - 1,500,000 troops, 15 Artilleries; Russia - 900,000 troops, 4 Artilleries; Poland - 600,000 troops; Norway-Sweden - 300,000 troops; Kazakhstan - 400,000 troops; China - 800,000 troops; Korea - 200,000 troops

Caribbean War ---> Great American War
Noting the involvement of Aztecs and Incas, journalists and political and military figures have begun calling the conflict the Great American War rather than the regional term "Caribbean War".
Anyway...
Boston has fallen to the Euro-American forces! After months of valiant fighting, Iroquois civilian and military fighters have been defeated by the enemy forces. The Italians marched in the front of the military occupation parades through the city, but promptly left the Iroquois capital to the Incas and Aztecs who have established a joint military government in the city.
Meanwhile, the Italians that left Boston have invaded further north along the coast. Promises of more freedoms and propaganda showing the Iroquois League as a weak government have failed to seduce most of the towns where nationalism remains strong. Though most of the northern Atlantic Coast is occupied, it is here that many Italians have fallen to the Iroquois.

On other fronts, the Iroquois military is resisting more strongly than it is on the northern Atlantic Coast and heavy casualties are dealt to the Aztec and Inca armies. Despire this, more headway is made deeper into the Iroquois lands.

On the home fronts in Inca and Aztec lands, however, there is resentment against what many nationalists call "betrayal of America by the government". Mass demonstrations fill the streets of Tenochtitlan. In Quito, the Inca capital, however, the demonstrations turn into riots and clashes occur throughout the city between police and rioters.

Iroquois - 1,500,000 troops; Italy - 300,000 troops; Aztecs - 1,000,000; Incas - 600,000 troops

Zulu War
The Zulu Empire continues to be beleaguered by the foreign invasions.

The USEAS go around the Zulu coast and invade from the west, catching the Zulu in their back flanks surprised. Using this element of surprise, the USEAS troops slaughter the Zulu troops. Much territory is taken by the USEAS Army, bolstered by new recruits from the homeland. Two Zulu fortresses remain surrounded by USEAS-occupied areas - Gaberone and Windhoek. According to intelligence, these fortresses are also the main military academies of the Zulu Empire. If they are captured or even destroyed, the Zulu Army will lose its main source of soldiers and weapons. Already, they are being besieged. However, the Zulu commanders inside have not surrendered, with provisions stocked up to last for [hopefully] half a year and the fortress defenses are still able to prevent the enemies from taking the academies by storm.

Japanese offensives were far less aggressive than were the USEAS and the main military engagements of the Japanese forces occured only when Zulu troops attempted to drive the Asians out. Little land is lost by the Japanese.

Somalians continue invasion of Somalian-resident territories. Zulu troops have also been highly unsuccessful there, as the Somalians actively aid the foreigners and make it hard for the Zulu Armies to do anything.

In all three cases, intimidation is heavily utilized, mostly by the USEAS, who storm coastal towns and issue brutal ultimatums of "surrender or die". Many choose the first option, not wanting to die so soon.

The Kenyan Army crosses into Zululand's Kenyan provinces, which have been rebelling against the Zulus ever since the Somalians and Nigerians began their own rebellions. Almost no Zulu troops were found in the Kenyan regions and much of Kenyan resident areas are occupied by the armies of Kenya.

Zulu Empire - 1,800,000 troops, 6 Hvy Artilleries, 200 ships; Somalia - 200,000 troops; USEAS - 100,000 troops; Japan - 10,000 troops

Central Europe
The tense situation seems to be diffused with the announcement of a Non-Aggression Pact between rival Austria and Prussia. The Bohemian government has also lowered its own military alertness slightly as a collective sigh of relief is breathed by the region's inhabitants.

Meanwhile, the Swiss Nationalrat votes to unify with Prussia. Premier Zwingli, a sympathizer for the German Unionist Party that controls the Nationalrat, has declared that the union between Prussia and Switzerland should occur as soon as possible. When the two realms join into one great country with Berlin as the federal capital, 3 religions will be bound in a federation: Lutheranism (West Prussia), Orthodoxy (East Prussia), and Catholicism (Switzerland). This shouldn't be a problem, according to many Swiss people and politicians, since Greater Prussia is known for religious tolerance, citing it as a destination for Jewish refugees during Inquisition years and East Prussia's continuing practice of Orthodoxy as proof of this.
Not all in Switzerland are overjoyed at this, however. More specifically: the small Italian minority, which is the regional majority of the Tyrol region. The Italians have been allowed freedom and have not been openly discriminated against by the nationalistic German Swiss but express concerns that their situation will change considerably with Switzerland's entrance into union with Prusia. Leaders of these Italians have formed the Tyrol Regional Council to lead the Italians. They seek independence for Tyrol should Switzerland and Prussia unite.

Siamese and Indian monarchs clash over Vietnam
The Indian Emperor, also Emperor of the USEAS as a whole, has decreed that a Vietnam will gain autonomous status similar to Siam within the USEAS. The Siamese King has registered a protest against this, stating that Vietnam is a province of the SIAMESE KINGDOM in the USEAS and not the INDIAN Empire and that any decision concerning Vietnam's status should be passed through him. The Siamese King has requested that the appointment of a Vietnamese Governor be withdrawn by the Emperor.

Communist revolution in Serbia
Communists in Serbia have overthrown the monarchy in a bloody revolution. No troops came to the King's rescue; isntead, the Serbian troops almost immeidately joined the revolutionaries in forming a new communist government as the new army of the revolutionary regime. Much of the Serbian nobility has been herded into labor camps by the army and the communists.

Your orders are way too late. Had a whole week, and 2 days heads-up, and 15 minutes to do them. So... Not accepted. Get them in earlier next time. Don't make that kind of procrastination a habit because it can and will hurt you at some point.

But... Sheep... You can't make a wonder that you unite with the other nations. You gotta ask them through the normal diplomatic channels like any nation would ask anyone else.

About Research... once it hits the final marker (example "(4/4)") you can start on new research. The finished research will remain in stats so I remember how far you got in each reserach category.
Air Force increasing rules are same as Army... Will add that part into the oficial Rules section momentarily.
But you start off with 10 Proto-Fighers. Likewise with Submarines.
As for upgrades (such as Artillery into Hvy Artillery) once you finish the research, the specific unit will immediately be upgraded into the new version, at no cost ;)

Siamese Governor

I am not trying to overstep my bounds or anything.I am simply keeping the peace in the USEAS.You shouldn't be alarmed. This is not shrinking your power,or anything. This is makeing greater our power.By having a fully unified country. What am I doing, really?Makeing one more advisor for when I make international decisions.Nothing more.Remember.We're all working towards the same goals anyways. No reason to get all mad about it.

From Switzerland
To Austria:
Did you not sign a NAP with Prussia? That means no aggression - NOT Austrian control over Prussian affairs.

From Hungary
To Austria:
We are in total agreement. ASAP, we must unite!
*SECRET* We should exploit the Tyrol Italians to undermine the stability of Switzerland and Prussia. Ethnic dissent can be like a disease that spreads to other parts of the nation.*SECRET*

From Belgium
To Austria and Hungary:
*SECRET* Shall we attack them? As for union, we will get back to you promptly.*SECRET*

From Kazakh Socialists
To Russia:
We had a deal! You stay for a year to restore full order and then allow referendum on either joining you or being independent! If you go back on our agreement, then we will take up arms against you!

To Kazakh Socialists
You are in direct violation of the order, unless you cease aresting democratic supporters and allow the government to become a democracy as opposed to a fancifully named fascism, we will make you

Spoiler To Belguim and Hungary :
We would indeed like to unite of course. I think we may need to however be very wary of our timing over the Prussian issue. Perhaps we should promote dissent amongst Catholics in Switzerland. BTW, Relgion will not be suppressed under the United Reich (new name for the nation if the union takes place). I look forward to your suggestions short of open war.

From Kazakh Socialists
To Russia:
We will allow free elections between Democrats and Socialists, to coincide with the referendum about joining Russia or being independent. But if the elections bring a Socialist majority, then we will have a Socialist government, and you can't cry "illegitimate" since it will have been the people's will that decides whether it will be a Socialist or Democratic Kazakhstan. Should you not uphold your end of the bargain, don't think that we will hesitate to raise arms against you to liberate our country. We did not overthrow the old Emperor to trade in one foreign ruler (Mongols) for another (you).

From Siamese KING
To USEAS Emperor:
Vietnam is part of the Siamese Kingdom, and thus is in my jurisdiction. I should have the call on its status. If I decide to make it autonomous, then it will be autonomous. You did not even consult me about it, which I consider a personal insult. This time, I will overlook it and allow Vietnamese autonomy. But overstep your power within this federation and the arrangement will be annulled and Siam will be its own independent country again.

Spoiler Austria :

From Hungary:
We will go through with a union.

From Belgium:
We shall consult our Parliament and decide on a union with you in 4 months. (note to sheep: you will find out in the update)

WORLD NEWS UPDATE 6 - JANUARY 1902

Ural War

The Europeans have continued their onslaught against the Mongol Empire. The offensive has been successful but only for a short distance, as the Mongol generals, thinking ahead, fortified land with guns and Artillery cannons. Upon hitting these fortifications, the European armies suffered severe losses, due not only to the surprise that the Mongols actually did this after months of failed campaigns and the increasing resistance from the population under the leadership of the Tatar Nationalist League (TNL). TNL militias have ambushed several contingents of the invader troops and slaughtered a few of the camps set up by the Russians and their allies.

On the Kazakh front, the Mongol armies were smashed and most of the small amount of troops left there was captured or killed as the Russians occupy that southern border of Kazakhstan, reuniting the country just in time for the preparations for elections to a Constituent Assembly. Just as the Russians apprehended these remnants of Mongol troops, the Kazakh Socialists agreed to release Democratic prisoners and end state-sponsored repression and has promised fair elections, scheduled for the next month. The Turkmen, south of Kazakhstan, have also liberated the small part of their country that Mongolia held.

The Eastern front was more successful for the Mongols and their Korean allies these past 3 months. Mongolia was able to push the Chinese out of the Altay Province and has gained some ground into China itself. The battered Korean armies were able to sneak past enemy lines and sabotage several Chinese Heavy Artilleries, and when the Chinese attempted to use them to deal a final blow to Korea, the cannons backfired and literally blew up in the Chinese troops' horrified faces! The multiple blasts have crippled the Chinese war machine, and the Chinese have lost more to their own cannons than they have to the Koreans during the whole war put together! The defeats have demoralized the Chinese army.

Russia - 1,100,000 troops; Poland - 500,000 troops; Norway-Sweden - 500,000 troops; Mongolia - 400,000 troops, 4 Artilleries; China - 1,000,000 troops; 3 Hvy Artillery

Mongolian Economy begins revival!
The Khan has begun a revival of the stagnant economy through encouraging new industry. Unemployment in the capital has decreased considerably and income generated by these new industrialists have begun to improve not only the economy but has increased the Khan's standing among the Mongol people.

Manchurian Communist Party rises in popularity!
The Communists have capitalized on the bourgeois inability to create consensus and have pulled in many of the dissatisfied workers and peasants of Manchuria. The Communists have blamed the overwhelming civilian deaths on the "ruling" politicians' ineptitude and have promised that if they gain power, decisions will come immediately with no delay. In the Manchurian provincial capital, Jilin, mass demonstrations have been staged already, demanding either free elections immediately or surrender of power to the MCP.

Chinese home front "on the brink of collapse"
The lack of success in the war has sunk the Chinese people's confidence in the government and in the military itself. Many are demanding that the government sue for peace, but Premier Wen Kir-chi has refused to do so unless the Parliament itself demands it. The Parliament itself is meanwhile in political stalemate and deadlock on the war issue, with the sides practically evenly split. China's own Socialist Party is, just as their Manchurian counterparts, taking advantage of the dissatisfaction, and is gaining popularity even among middle-class and China's powerful intellectual class with its socialist and pacifist platform.

Elections to the Russian Imperial Duma have come in
The elections that were held in December have finally been tallied, with the following parties gaining the following amounts (in %) of seats in the 300-person parliament:
Russian Royal Democrats - 37%
Russian Socialist Party - 43%
Ukrainian Autonomist Party - 12%
Tatar Liberal Republican Party - 3%
No party has a definitive 60% majority, and it's unlikely that the Socialists and Royal Democrats would join in a coalition.

Central Asian People's Republic formed
The Central Asian rebel leaders have met in Dushanbe and signed a Declaration of Independence for the regios of Uzbekistan, Tadzhikstan, and Kyrgyzstan. A clause in the declaration included:
We, the delegates of the lands of Uzbekistan, Tadzhikstan, and Kyrgyzstan, hereby declare independence from the Mongol Empire. On this day, let it be known that the Uzbeks, Kyrgyzians, and Tadzhiks shall no longer fight each other but co-operate with each other for mutual benefit. To solidify this seemingly unlikely union, we declare the birth of the Central Asian People's Republic. From this day on, any threat to one component of the Republic is a threat to the others, and it is a threat that will be resisted.
9 civilians, representing the 3 component lands, 3 delegates per land, signed and ratified the Declaration.

Great American War
The Italians have captured the rest of Maine Province, killing the small amounts of Iroquois men stationed there with relative ease. Then, the Italians boarded boats and sailed down what the locals called the "St. Lawrence River" (after the missionary that converted the Iroquois leaders to Anglicanism) and captured much of the shores of the "Great Lakes" as the locals called them. Illinois is very hard to control, however, and riots have occurred.

Meanwhile, the Incas and Aztecs push on westward and meet the Italians in Illinois. Multiple spots of resistance appear and disappear, as if the fighters have degenerated to nomadic lifestyle to avoid complete suppression.

Several Italian supply ships have been sunk by an unseen enemy in the night. Survivors of these attacks and ships that managed to limp to Bermuda or even back to Europe (if they were closer to Europe than to Bermuda) recall terrifying stories of "whooosh!" sounds and churning streams of water just before the ships blew apart, of the enemy appearing out of nowhere, unseen, and disappearing like phantoms into the night. Rumors and omens circulate and superstition among Italians and other Europeans increases about the "Spirits of the Atlantic" - ships and people that perished on trans-Atlantic colonial voyages back in the first days of the Colonial times that have come back to wreak vengeance upon the Europeans for sending them to watery graves.

Italy - 20,000 troops; Iroquois - 100,000 troops; Inca - 10,000 troops; Aztecs - 50,000 troops

Zulu War

USEAS offensives continue with the most success out of all the anti-Zulu armies. Almost all of the western coast has been taken over in a massive blitz, picking off the minimized armies of the Zulus.
Windhoek and Gaberone continue to hold fast against the foreign onslaught, but they're clearly weakening.

The Japanese have invaded further into the Zulu "heartland", fighting off some minor guerilla skirmishes.

Somalia encounters several major barracks and takes them by storm in the north, all but slaughtering the Zulus located there.

Zulu Empire - 500,000 troops, 8 Hvy Artilleries; USEAS - 100,000 troops; Somalia - 200,000 troops; Japan - 50,000 troops; Kenya - 150,000 troops.

Communist Revolution throughout Free Zululand!
All across Zululand, Communists have taken over with the mass support of the population. In the capital itself the Zulu Communists have executed the Emperor and declared a Zulu People's Republic, to the cheering masses. The Communists have promised to end the war and keep Zululand independent - salvage as much as they can.

Switzerland merges with Greater Prussia
The Swiss have merged into Greater Prussia - the last remaining step is merging of the legislatures. The Nationalrat of Switzerland has declared that it will not make the union fully official until the name is changed to reflect the pan-German nature of the entity rather than any kind of "Greater Prussia" supremacy.
The government has promised the Tyrolians that they will be given self-determination but has told them that they must wait just a bit for the structures of the unified governments to assimilate together.

Germanic Manifesto is published!
The Germanic Manifesto is published and circulated throughout the German lands. It has increased the strength of pro-Prussian groups in Bavaria and has boosted the confidence that the Prussian and Swiss Germans have in themselves.

Austria, Belgium, and Hungary unite!
Just as the Germanic Manifesto spreads throughout the German lands, Austria, Belgium, and Hungary unite into the "Triple Reich of Central Europe". Already, travel customs and economies are being merged to become the same. The Hungarians and Belgians are also asserting great autonomy from Austria, seeking to make the Triple Reich effectively a confederation of the three monarchies rather than a centralized union. Whether it be centralized or decentralized remains to be seen as the Supreme Reichstag will begin its first session this month, but what is known is that the Emperor is now a figurehead.

Japanese Elections held
The first Japanese parliamentary elections are being held, with Communists and Democrats as the two main participant parties. Results are scheduled next month (will be mentioned in the next update).

King Rudolf III returns from self-imposed exile and claims the throne of Norway
Norwegians celebrated the return of their King, Rudolf III Jonah, to claim the throne of Norway in the dual Empire of Norway-Sweden. In gratitude for holding the fort while he was gone, Rudolf has appointed Hans Alex as his Chancellor – his top advisor.
Elections are still in process of being prepared.

Norman Communists intensify their riots and convince the farmers to deprive the cities of food unless the government permits free elections.

About elections and those internal political things: I leave them to you for your stories or whatever... but when I see that you're clearly neglecting that, then I take charge of that particular thing myself, as I did with Russia. Those elections were supposed to be like 3 turns ago! I waited for a possible story from josef!
Come on, people, make some stories! I saw some pretty good ones here not too long ago, so I know that you can do it! And it shouldn’t be that hard since I’m TRYING to give you some story ideas and nudge you along with elections or whatever.

On front page, when u unite, I’m taking off the things in the Leaders slot with the two leaders from each country cuz it’s too confusing in the stats. Instead, it’s gonna be in another post, so that I can keep track of it better. <---Something I will do tomorrow.

When you get Air Force, I will post on the front page your main airplane production facility (where it is), in the same post as the Trade Routes post is, so that you know where you’re bulding them. Needless to say, when you get flight you can start making Airlines, which can give economy ;)

CARRIERS ARE NEEDED TO TRANSPORT PLANES ACROSS THE OCEANS! I am including them in the Research list.

I will do populations tomorrow.

To Conehead: figure out what the hell it is you want to do, because I don’t feel like dealing with you: you tell me you can’t be in it cuz you have no time or whatever (which is fine) but then go back in the next turn, but then you either wait until it’s already way too late to do orders, or I never hear from you again. What’s the deal? i am not liking excuses at all, and now I realize how I must have sounded all those times in the past in my very first NES that I moderated when I couldn’t update or something, and I must have aggravated the crap out of everyone. And this is a particularly bad time for ANYONE to be giving me excuses because I’m going through something personal right now (which I won’t get into but needless to say it involves a girl) and you’re picking a bad time to piss me off. Either get your act together and do orders ON TIME or tell me that you can’t work it out. If I don’t hear from you again, Arabia’s gonna get penalized, because it’s ridiculous – you can’t be in this NES and not do anything all at the same time: MAKE A CHOICE.

To Insane_Panda: Well, at least I know you're trying to be in here and doing orders.

This NES is looking cool, its a pity I don't have time for it or any other one.
