WORLD NEWS UPDATE 6 - JANUARY 1902
Ural War
The Europeans have continued their onslaught against the Mongol Empire. The offensive has been successful but only for a short distance, as the Mongol generals, thinking ahead, fortified land with guns and Artillery cannons. Upon hitting these fortifications, the European armies suffered severe losses, due not only to the surprise that the Mongols actually did this after months of failed campaigns and the increasing resistance from the population under the leadership of the Tatar Nationalist League (TNL). TNL militias have ambushed several contingents of the invader troops and slaughtered a few of the camps set up by the Russians and their allies.
On the Kazakh front, the Mongol armies were smashed and most of the small amount of troops left there was captured or killed as the Russians occupy that southern border of Kazakhstan, reuniting the country just in time for the preparations for elections to a Constituent Assembly. Just as the Russians apprehended these remnants of Mongol troops, the Kazakh Socialists agreed to release Democratic prisoners and end state-sponsored repression and has promised fair elections, scheduled for the next month. The Turkmen, south of Kazakhstan, have also liberated the small part of their country that Mongolia held.
The Eastern front was more successful for the Mongols and their Korean allies these past 3 months. Mongolia was able to push the Chinese out of the Altay Province and has gained some ground into China itself. The battered Korean armies were able to sneak past enemy lines and sabotage several Chinese Heavy Artilleries, and when the Chinese attempted to use them to deal a final blow to Korea, the cannons backfired and literally blew up in the Chinese troops' horrified faces! The multiple blasts have crippled the Chinese war machine, and the Chinese have lost more to their own cannons than they have to the Koreans during the whole war put together! The defeats have demoralized the Chinese army.
Russia - 1,100,000 troops; Poland - 500,000 troops; Norway-Sweden - 500,000 troops; Mongolia - 400,000 troops, 4 Artilleries; China - 1,000,000 troops; 3 Hvy Artillery
Mongolian Economy begins revival!
The Khan has begun a revival of the stagnant economy through encouraging new industry. Unemployment in the capital has decreased considerably and income generated by these new industrialists have begun to improve not only the economy but has increased the Khan's standing among the Mongol people.
Manchurian Communist Party rises in popularity!
The Communists have capitalized on the bourgeois inability to create consensus and have pulled in many of the dissatisfied workers and peasants of Manchuria. The Communists have blamed the overwhelming civilian deaths on the "ruling" politicians' ineptitude and have promised that if they gain power, decisions will come immediately with no delay. In the Manchurian provincial capital, Jilin, mass demonstrations have been staged already, demanding either free elections immediately or surrender of power to the MCP.
Chinese home front "on the brink of collapse"
The lack of success in the war has sunk the Chinese people's confidence in the government and in the military itself. Many are demanding that the government sue for peace, but Premier Wen Kir-chi has refused to do so unless the Parliament itself demands it. The Parliament itself is meanwhile in political stalemate and deadlock on the war issue, with the sides practically evenly split. China's own Socialist Party is, just as their Manchurian counterparts, taking advantage of the dissatisfaction, and is gaining popularity even among middle-class and China's powerful intellectual class with its socialist and pacifist platform.
Elections to the Russian Imperial Duma have come in
The elections that were held in December have finally been tallied, with the following parties gaining the following amounts (in %) of seats in the 300-person parliament:
Russian Royal Democrats - 37%
Russian Socialist Party - 43%
Ukrainian Autonomist Party - 12%
Tatar Liberal Republican Party - 3%
No party has a definitive 60% majority, and it's unlikely that the Socialists and Royal Democrats would join in a coalition.
Central Asian People's Republic formed
The Central Asian rebel leaders have met in Dushanbe and signed a Declaration of Independence for the regios of Uzbekistan, Tadzhikstan, and Kyrgyzstan. A clause in the declaration included:
We, the delegates of the lands of Uzbekistan, Tadzhikstan, and Kyrgyzstan, hereby declare independence from the Mongol Empire. On this day, let it be known that the Uzbeks, Kyrgyzians, and Tadzhiks shall no longer fight each other but co-operate with each other for mutual benefit. To solidify this seemingly unlikely union, we declare the birth of the Central Asian People's Republic. From this day on, any threat to one component of the Republic is a threat to the others, and it is a threat that will be resisted.
9 civilians, representing the 3 component lands, 3 delegates per land, signed and ratified the Declaration.
Great American War
The Italians have captured the rest of Maine Province, killing the small amounts of Iroquois men stationed there with relative ease. Then, the Italians boarded boats and sailed down what the locals called the "St. Lawrence River" (after the missionary that converted the Iroquois leaders to Anglicanism) and captured much of the shores of the "Great Lakes" as the locals called them. Illinois is very hard to control, however, and riots have occurred.
Meanwhile, the Incas and Aztecs push on westward and meet the Italians in Illinois. Multiple spots of resistance appear and disappear, as if the fighters have degenerated to nomadic lifestyle to avoid complete suppression.
Several Italian supply ships have been sunk by an unseen enemy in the night. Survivors of these attacks and ships that managed to limp to Bermuda or even back to Europe (if they were closer to Europe than to Bermuda) recall terrifying stories of "whooosh!" sounds and churning streams of water just before the ships blew apart, of the enemy appearing out of nowhere, unseen, and disappearing like phantoms into the night. Rumors and omens circulate and superstition among Italians and other Europeans increases about the "Spirits of the Atlantic" - ships and people that perished on trans-Atlantic colonial voyages back in the first days of the Colonial times that have come back to wreak vengeance upon the Europeans for sending them to watery graves.
Italy - 20,000 troops; Iroquois - 100,000 troops; Inca - 10,000 troops; Aztecs - 50,000 troops
Zulu War
USEAS offensives continue with the most success out of all the anti-Zulu armies. Almost all of the western coast has been taken over in a massive blitz, picking off the minimized armies of the Zulus.
Windhoek and Gaberone continue to hold fast against the foreign onslaught, but they're clearly weakening.
The Japanese have invaded further into the Zulu "heartland", fighting off some minor guerilla skirmishes.
Somalia encounters several major barracks and takes them by storm in the north, all but slaughtering the Zulus located there.
Zulu Empire - 500,000 troops, 8 Hvy Artilleries; USEAS - 100,000 troops; Somalia - 200,000 troops; Japan - 50,000 troops; Kenya - 150,000 troops.
Communist Revolution throughout Free Zululand!
All across Zululand, Communists have taken over with the mass support of the population. In the capital itself the Zulu Communists have executed the Emperor and declared a Zulu People's Republic, to the cheering masses. The Communists have promised to end the war and keep Zululand independent - salvage as much as they can.
Switzerland merges with Greater Prussia
The Swiss have merged into Greater Prussia - the last remaining step is merging of the legislatures. The Nationalrat of Switzerland has declared that it will not make the union fully official until the name is changed to reflect the pan-German nature of the entity rather than any kind of "Greater Prussia" supremacy.
The government has promised the Tyrolians that they will be given self-determination but has told them that they must wait just a bit for the structures of the unified governments to assimilate together.
Germanic Manifesto is published!
The
Germanic Manifesto is published and circulated throughout the German lands. It has increased the strength of pro-Prussian groups in Bavaria and has boosted the confidence that the Prussian and Swiss Germans have in themselves.
Austria, Belgium, and Hungary unite!
Just as the
Germanic Manifesto spreads throughout the German lands, Austria, Belgium, and Hungary unite into the "Triple Reich of Central Europe". Already, travel customs and economies are being merged to become the same. The Hungarians and Belgians are also asserting great autonomy from Austria, seeking to make the Triple Reich effectively a confederation of the three monarchies rather than a centralized union. Whether it be centralized or decentralized remains to be seen as the Supreme Reichstag will begin its first session this month, but what is known is that the Emperor is now a figurehead.
Japanese Elections held
The first Japanese parliamentary elections are being held, with Communists and Democrats as the two main participant parties. Results are scheduled next month (will be mentioned in the next update).
King Rudolf III returns from self-imposed exile and claims the throne of Norway
Norwegians celebrated the return of their King, Rudolf III Jonah, to claim the throne of Norway in the dual Empire of Norway-Sweden. In gratitude for holding the fort while he was gone, Rudolf has appointed Hans Alex as his Chancellor – his top advisor.
Elections are still in process of being prepared.
Norman Communists intensify their riots and convince the farmers to deprive the cities of food unless the government permits free elections.

About elections and those internal political things: I leave them to you for your stories or whatever... but when I see that you're clearly neglecting that, then I take charge of that particular thing myself, as I did with Russia. Those elections were supposed to be like 3 turns ago! I waited for a possible story from josef!
Come on, people, make some stories! I saw some pretty good ones here not too long ago, so I know that you can do it! And it shouldn’t be that hard since I’m TRYING to give you some story ideas and nudge you along with elections or whatever.
On front page, when u unite, I’m taking off the things in the Leaders slot with the two leaders from each country cuz it’s too confusing in the stats. Instead, it’s gonna be in another post, so that I can keep track of it better. <---Something I will do tomorrow.
When you get Air Force, I will post on the front page your main airplane production facility (where it is), in the same post as the Trade Routes post is, so that you know where you’re bulding them. Needless to say, when you get flight you can start making Airlines, which can give economy
CARRIERS ARE NEEDED TO TRANSPORT PLANES ACROSS THE OCEANS! I am including them in the Research list.
I will do populations tomorrow.
To Conehead: figure out what the hell it is you want to do, because I don’t feel like dealing with you: you tell me you can’t be in it cuz you have no time or whatever (which is fine) but then go back in the next turn, but then you either wait until it’s already way too late to do orders, or I never hear from you again. What’s the deal? i am not liking excuses at all, and now I realize how I must have sounded all those times in the past in my very first NES that I moderated when I couldn’t update or something, and I must have aggravated the crap out of everyone. And this is a particularly bad time for ANYONE to be giving me excuses because I’m going through something personal right now (which I won’t get into but needless to say it involves a girl) and you’re picking a bad time to piss me off. Either get your act together and do orders ON TIME or tell me that you can’t work it out. If I don’t hear from you again, Arabia’s gonna get penalized, because it’s ridiculous – you can’t be in this NES and not do anything all at the same time: MAKE A CHOICE.
To Insane_Panda: Well, at least I know you're trying to be in here and doing orders.
