stNNES2: StatesNES

Virginia shares political and traditional values in common with south carolina, north carolina, georgia, kentucky, tennesee, and maryland. We wish to create a southern democratic alliance, advocating slavery and states rights.

what is your MSN Josef?

Today Governer Vanderploeg openly questioned the government of South Carolina.
"What on earth are you planning to need 10,000 soldiers for? Surely there aren't that many Indians threatening your frontiers?
"Be advised that your fellow Americans will not be cowed by the threat of armed force and that we, being civilized men, should at all times find civilized ways to settle differences."

"There is no need for shouting, good sir, I merely request some justification for this militarism. Surely the governor of South Carolina has some, yes?"

Governer Van der Ploeg writes nothing more for now, tactfully awaiting the response of the South Carolinian governor.

Georgia Orders:
$9k to transportation budget.
$5k to training and supporting 10k regular level troops.
Georgia casts it's 6 electoral votes for Jefferson.

Military Deployment:
Send the Georgian army to exterminate the Injun menace throughout Georgia. Leave none alive, I want the rivers to run red. Use our superior ranged weaponry to our advantage. Savages' arrows are no match for the Georgian Militia's Kentucky Rifles.

OOC: Why not? It would make the Louisiana purchase easier. Besides, they're not so much country's as colonies, so you might say New Spain is different from Louisiana.

Update is begun. Orders will be accepted past this point if and only if you post them before I get to the third page. :)

Change: $1,000 of Penn's industry budget is to go into backing John Adams openly, if that's legal.

All right, everyone, I find it ironic that everyone has put orders regarding elections into their orders, when it would ahve come next turn... So I shall do election this turn. Basically, instead of two turns a year, every turn is a year.(make the game go faster, too) :) If anyone wants to change some part of their orders, then do so quickly. (don't edit posts, just post right here so I can see it. I'll wait another half hour.)

Whoops, I was confused about that. Oh well . . .
If you want a good compromise solution, keep the game at 6 months per turn but just have that first turn be the election year.
Or whatever you think is best, it shouldn't really matter.

Winner of National Election Announced!
Incumbent John Adams Reelected to a Second term in office!

John Adams has won the election for his second term in office, his last, he says, following the precedent set by the honored former president, George Washington. The election was another close one this year, John Adams with 70 votes, Jefferson with 66. The states of Maryland and south of it all voted for Jefferson, North of that line was Adams territory. The key battleground state of Delaware decided the election, with the apparent main deciding factor being open public funding by several states of the Adams campaign.

Bills proposed in Congress!
The New bills include several in their number, two are proposed by the governor of Pennsylvania, one by the new President himself. The following are the proposed bills:

Proposed by Pennsylvania’s governor, this one would only affect, so far, the state of Virginia’s tariffs on cotton.

National Free Commerce Bill
The governor has proposed a bill to Congress that makes it illegal for states to place tarrif barriers on imports from other states. States may still place their own barriers on foreign goods.

Also by the governor, this one seems to be making a potential for a steel industry in particular, and many others in the USA.

International Commerce Bill
Governor Van der Ploeg proposed a second bill to Congress, proposing a tariff on all foreign manufactured goods and metal.

Also, by the President of the United States of America a bill that may have originated in the states themselves, but was only proposed by him much later,

Free Northwest Bill

If passed, this bill will make all forms of slavery, including pure ownership and also debt slavery, illegal in the states north of the Ohio River.

These bills are on their way to the House of Representatives, where, if passed, they will go to the Senate for the final stage of lawmaking.

Industries develop!

Most notably, industries are developing in Pittsburgh and Virginia, the former being steel, the latter cotton.
see page 9 for details

OOC: In your next set of orders, say how you will vote towards the three bills. The number of Representatives you have is the same as your electoral votes, the number of senators is 2. If you don’t send in any orders for how they vote, then they will vote on their own. Current party affiliation is the same as Presidential vote distribution, Federalists are mostly north of Maryland, D-R’s south and in it. Delaware is split.

Sette7, yes, you have Delaware, forgot to mention it.

KarlMarxx, you need $10,000 up front to build your proposed military. Only 5,000 were built, the max that could be by what you allocated.

Only a few states have trade as of yet, notably the massive Virginia cotton industry and the small but rapidly growing steel industry in Pittsburgh.

Next Update is Sunday, July 25, about the same time as this one.
