stNNES7: Worlds and Empires

Just read it all. Superb writing, you should publish this one day.

One question - about that Chinese army in Burma... weren't the East Asians in particular vulnerable to some local (Indochinese) disease, it being the reason they didn't, at first, expand as far as they could have in China itself? And even if not - I'd expect some rather nasty jungle diseases there.

That only really applies to the northern Chinese.

The Miao and Yue (Shu and Tong in this NES) either originated from the jungles or came from the Tibetan highlands.

Either way, the jungle diseases should not affect them as badly.

We are not "Miao" we're our own ethnicity that's better then everyone else called Shu. :p But in reality, the Chinese Dynasties didn't really expand into Burma since somehow most of the time they sent armies there their armies were defeated. Major Armies mind you, and since Burma was willing to become a protectorate, why waste the effort trying to conquer it?

and das, i totally agree with you that north king should publish his updates one day.

to Tolosia:
We can now enter your country and crush you so easily... If you want peace give us 2 economic levels and we shall leave you at peace. Otherwise we shall take this economy by force.

to the Franks:
Bourdax will never be surrendered. We shall beat your armies at every battle until you will learn that you cannot defeat the Portuguss. No matter. You will beg for peace soon enough.

to Basque and Tartessos:
Good my allies. We could soon destory the Balerics. We must now destory their navy (contact me personaly for the plan) and throw them away for our Iberia!

to Brittany:
We have not forgot you our allies. Resist the Frank rule! We shall soon be in your lands bringing you freedom ones again but you you must resist to help us!

to British country that was attacked:
Send us your navy so we could come to aid you soon in retaking the British isles.

to British country that attacked:
You will soon be crushed. Mark my words.

Clan Jaun-Jaun had won, the Avars had been united. The crafty leader of the Clan had won a great battle between Clan Asina and Clan Kandik, and forced the defeated to bow. With the defeat of the two strongest, and the others weakened by their own personal wars, they too were forced to submit.

The Avars were not as divided by Clan rivalaries as they were before. The Avars have been united under the power of Khagan Bakun, the former Chieftan of Jaun-Jaun. The rivalaries still bleed, underneath the surface of the Steepe nation. Clans still fought amongst themselves, and there was a general distrust of each other. Still, the Clans followed the will of the Khagan, after all, he united them, surely he could bring greater glories, greater....conquests.

The nights were cold on the steepe. A person would kill to find a warm place to sleep, surrounded by sheeps wool on a felt hammock. In fact, some did. The lands of the Avar nation were generally a lawless area, were only personal honor upheld the peace. A-na-kuei pulled his leather clothes tighter to his body, cold in the night air. Enough daydreaming... he thought. I have to get to the camp.

A-na-kuei jolted his horse from its resting state telling it to move on. The horse snorted, its breath hanging in the chilly night air. The horse continued on the well trodden path, but, A-na-kuei knew better. The night was not kind on the steepe. Whether it was a wild animal, or a crazy raider hoping to catch a way ward trader off gaurd. Spirts know how many raids there have been on the "Silk" road since those Shu came. he thought. Those fools have no respect for the forests and fields. Although, we are richer now.

Shaking himself out of his wandering thoughts, A-na-kuei continued his journey, trying to keep an eye out for any threat that might befall him. He travelled for another hour before he reached his destination, the village of Clan Kuei. The last son of former Kuei Chieftan had returned to claim his birthright, and he would fight the Khagan until his Clan was given what was owed.

"Khagan, must we do this?" asked Yayu, brother to the Khagan. He was seated in the Khagans tent, as where several other of the Khagans realatives and trusted advisors. The Khagan looked sharply at his brother before answering. "You doubt my judgement?" Yayu stayed silent, ashamed at his vieled reprimand.

"Sir, no disrespect, but is it wise to try and claim the entirety of the Silk road from the other clans? It is making us rich enough now, and if we attempt to conquer it, wouldn't that just disrupt it?" asked the Khagan's General, Bayan. The Khagan smiled at that point, rather than be deterred by it. "We are Avars, what we take, is ours by right. It is the law of the steepes."

Bayan frowned, not understanding, "I understand that sure, but if we disrupt it, we won't make as much money." A snort came at this statement, coming from the religous authority in the Khagan's circle, Hatar. "Foolish boy, you should remember that gold is not everything, the spirts are not metal and gems, they are forests and plains, beasts of the Earth and Air. Gold is not what matters here." Sage nods accompied that statement, muttering of encouragement and agreement following the wise mans spoken rebutal.

Sputtering in anger, Bayan opened to make a retort before being cut off by the Khagan. "Both are right, but both are wrong." Confused looks followed this statement as both sides supporters tried to figure out what the Khagan meant by the statement. Continueing on as if nothing was wrong, the Khagan spoke once more, "It is true that with our Conquests we will disrupt the Silk route, but we will gain land, land which would be ours by law of the Steepe. By the laws of the Spirts. With our new aqquistions, the Silk road will flourish even more, and we can charge more for our protected route. We will gain both land, and eventually wealth from this. Therefore, both of you are correct in your fashion."

Numerous confused expersions become understanding smiles as the Khagan explained his plan, and it was met with apporval on all sides. The Khagan then turned to a gaurd before speaking, "Fetch me an ambassador. I have a proposition for the Jade Empire."

To Tartars
From Xiong Nu

''a secret''

Begin larger raids, please

try not to hold chinese territories but rather attack against their logistics and flee.

Purposely making us know it? Wicked.
Let's kill both Xiong Nu and the Tartars. Are the Avars up for it? :D

Speaking of which - why didn't it spread elsewhere? We DO trade with the Europeans and North Africans, you know...

It will. It just... didn't. :p

Yes, you did. However, I've not actually decided HOW the plague spreads, so they might or might not be effective; this isn't a real world disease, but something quite fictional, *just because* I don't want you guys to have a ready made defense against it.

Ooooooo.. Ominous...

Okay NK, if you hate the polar bears so much, find some other arbitrary thing to blame. Let's start with Alex's confounded thrice-damned lumps of kaolin clay. (Blue pottery)

why's that? I'm very interest in knowing what practicle purpose mindless death, disease, and other nasty sub illnesses that take advantage of people whom are already weaked by the disease could have. (no offence, it just seems rather gothic to do somthing like that, and make it so that the people who play dont have defence agianst it, so that the plague always spreads, and always kills people.)

I think it's more that a real-world Ravenna wouldn't be able to take any precautions to stop the plague, especially as they would have heard no more than rumors of it in the east. Not even the most organized Iron Age nation would be able to do anything.

they could kill anyone would looked ill, thats always an amusing tactic

cut economic imports from Syria (which I woudl do anyway, because since the danube area is now secured, and area around Sirmium (the amjor city split into three subportions) is well away from any German fronts that may develope, I would want to endorse self agriculture in those areas; other methods of defence would be raising the education leval (done already, may do agian in near future), and encouraging sanitation by building aquaducts with raised and covered water supplied delivierign that fresh water to major cities to drinking, and creating bath houses, so that the popualtion of major urban centers may keep clean (keeping clean is 3/4ths the battle agianst disease anyway) Moreover, the ancient worlds tactics of keeping snakes in graneries, and ships will aide to completlly nullify rat problems (snakes are cleaner, and more effective then cats; if not as nice and cuddly; they were abandoned by chritians because of the connoations the snake had in thier religion)

encouraging the use of middlemen between Syria and Ravenna woudl also be a feasible tactic to reduce risk of it spreading, in addition to cutting agricultural goods (thiers still plenty of industry.raw materials in both natiosn to make trade worth while), and the othe rmethods of sanitation mentioned :)

What's the point of it, Xen? Realism, dramatic tension, and having a nice means of putting an empire to death up my sleeve if anyone gets too annoying. :mischief:
