Succession Game for Newbies

I wanted to build workers, but I also wanted a settler ASAP, so I built a settler, to do a worker factory in the 2nd city.

Yep, I liked that decision, but we should have had Orleans start a worker ASAP before building the granary, possibly even two workers.

I don't typically use governors(from reading the turn log), but that's ok, I just don't like their decisions 90% of the time.

Again yep, I highly recommend NOT using the governor, but there is one exception. The governor should be set to emphasize production in the town, certainly for settler factory towns if not all towns. That controls what tile is selected on city growth turns.

Oh, that reminds me of one more thing: DON'T improve anymore tiles around Paris other than the ones I numbered. The improvements would be useless for now, and it can screw with the city governor selecting the forest tile on growth.

:crazyeye:
ok can I get the save?

I think we should wait about 10 turns & then start the war so we can mass up archers or horsemen or swords, if we have iron, than kill the aztecs and build settlers in paris while teoteuacan can build millatary :)

Even if we choose to attack the Aztecs, (and I think we should wait until Kumquat and HyCrest have at least a chance to weigh in on that decision and the decision on republic vs. monarchy), we won't have Iron Working for a long time from now.

We would have to build an archer or two, probably just regulars in Orleans.

There's no way we can have masses of troops until at least another 20-30 turns from now.:crazyeye:

k I got it I will start playing, but I cant read the spread sheet :(

Why's that? Do you have an unzipping program like WinZip on your machine?

The forumn doesn't allow straight up excel files to be uploaded (beyond me why in the heck not) so I had to zip the file.

Oh yeah, one more thing Tad. :)

Can you wait to play until HyCrest and Kumquat have checked in on the government and Aztec war decision? At least give them a little time... :)

I know it's hard to be patient, but for the sake of team play, could you? Thanks!:please:

I settled lyons on the sugar dot area what should I build in it?? woops sry :( I didnt see you post that sry I could just wait and "forget" what happend in 5 turns in

Well :(, I say just wait at the spot you are at for the other guys to check in. Don't worry about going back.

Good pull on the goody hut :)

That's good especially because it means we still have the option to research Poly after we get CoL and not really lose any time, if we still wanted to go for monarchy. If we want to go Republic, we are still in perfect position. :)

Did Charles die to those 2 barbs up north? :mischief:

Oh, and I think that was a good decision on not attacking the Aztecs. Again, good job! :)

Monarchy would be better than Republic. We are going for Con/Dom so we will have a huge army...how are we going to maintain our science with hardly any mili support until we get towns? I would wait until we have at least 8 bows before we attack the Tecs.

 are we naming our units? You can quickly check your cities with the Dom advisor (F something) to prevent riots :)

I agree with Monarch normally, but in this case I don't think it'll be necessary. I think that both the Aztecs and the Vikings will go down easy and so we won't be supporting a huge army. In fact, I think we could attack with like 4-5 vet archers to begin with and be fine. As long as we keep our cities at a low pop level by building workers and settlers from them, then our luxeries + a little bit of lux slider will easily keep the cities happy. The commerce and corruption benefits of Republic are too hard to ignore.

so, should I just finish my 10 turns now? :)

We are on regent so it should not matter if we go republic but I would rather have a huge army. Do the Aztecs have spearmen? If they do are archer are dead :( Yeah you can finish Tad.

BT- Charles kills a barb warrior but get redlined :(,
Luis attacks a barb but gets yellow lined.

Were you attacking barbs in open or barb camps? You can just ignore the barbs in the open unless they are close to our workers / cities. That way we don't lose our scouts... :)

Turn 2- Paris builds settler -> settler

I know you had trouble opening the excel file...but, we should not be producing more settlers from Paris just yet.

We should have the tile marked "1" irrigated and roaded by this point, but we don't, so that needs to get done.

(The check mark just shows where the governor should place the extra citizen on growth. Do NOT actively work this tile.)

Then, have Paris grow to size five before starting anymore settlers. While you are waiting for Paris to grow, build warriors.

Then, when Paris is size 5, work the fp, the wheat, the 2 BG's and an irrigated plains. When it grows to size six two turns later, mm the city to work the fp, the wheat, the 2 BGs, and 2 irrigated plains. That will get us a 4-turn settler factory. Much better. :)

Turn-4 build lyons, start spear for prebuild for something.

Have Lyons build a curragh, and then build another curragh. :)
We need scouts.

IBT- build warrior in orleans-> worker factory again (was waiting till it got 2 size 3 again :) )

Did you mm the city so that it was getting +5fpt? It should be working the two cows and then now-mined grass spot. That will make it a perfect 2 turn worker factory. BTW, the grass did not need to be mined at this point for the factory, but oh well. :p

Good News We Have Horses & Iron Woot China Contact :D

so, should I just finish my 10 turns now? :)

Yeah, go ahead and finish.

I know that I picked apart your turn log a little, but it really looks pretty good :)

Just please follow some of the suggestions for build orders that I wrote, such as the warriors in Paris and the curragh at Lyons. :please:

P.S. and please irrigate that one Paris plains tile, and only that tile. ;)
